New Orleans Police are investigating the cause of death of a woman whose body was found around 4:30 a.m. Friday in Woldenberg Park, a high-traffic pedestrian area near Canal Street.
A homeless person flagged down police after finding the body in the park, said NOPD Deputy Chief Marlon Defillo.
“Right now, she’s an unidentified female and the cause of death is unclassified pending autopsy results from the coroner,” Defillo said.
Orleans Parish Coroner Chief Investigator John Gagliano said he expects to know more from the autopsy by this afternoon.

Woman’s body found near Woldenberg Park
New Orleans, the city that keeps on giving, not sure WHAT, but it’s giving…
And as some of the better comment makers at NOLA.com have said:
“Holy crap! Welcome to New Orleans, Sugarbowl and BCS Championship fans!!”
“hurry up, criminals, only a few days left before the official murder count, and we dont want to lose our first place position amung all the cities
”
Ya see, I’m not the only one that razzes NOLA, the folks still there do, the folks that used to live there do, NOLA is a lost cause and everyone knows it, except NOLA itself…
Same body, the NOPD did a bit of investigation it appears…

That run together ramble was almost illegible…
Paragraph breaks are priceless…
Oh, this one strikes me both home and silly…
I lived not far from NOLA for a few years and spent a bit of time there in it’s later glory years before Katrina.
It was a dirty city. It was an incredible city. It was a city for folks to get lost in, and revel in, and be disgusted with, and also to be put upon a pedestal.
New Orleans is a one of a kind place, and like in the Bible with Sodom and Gomorrah, it was that kind of place. Magical and tragic at the same time.
However, I do remember my first Mardi Gras parade. I made sure I went to see the very best of the best Krewes in the parade. I saw the Krewe of Endymion and Bacchus, the best of all. I saw the Krewe of Zulu (most amazing, and the black Krewe). I was shocked to find that one of the best floats and most colorful groups of the parade advertised that “We’re #1″, (the number one crime rate) (in a white Krewe) that is…
It’s true. LOTS of crime in NOLA. Such a shame for a city with so much history and life in it. I think it’s probably a lost cause…that is…unless NORMAL people get control and as we wish for our nation that some NORMAL person would get control and make it once again what it was in it’s glory.
I hope (in my heart) that someday…NOLA will find a saving grace to bring it back to what it has the potential to be. There used to be magic in NOLA even with its diverse culture. May the origin of the South rise again, and may sound minds prevail… yeh right…huh…but there are those of us capable to make that happen… can I at least get an amen there?
