They also expect everyone else in America to come and do all the rebuilding and cleanup work. Why should we? It's not my city, it's their city. Until the citizens of New Orleans set the example and show leadership in the reconstruction efforts, I don't think anyone in America will be willing to expend any more money or energy for them. And Fred, next time some product of inferior breeding tells you to get a job and contribute, just tell them you are contributing. Even retirees pay taxes and your taxes are paying for their recovery, along with their $2,000 debit cards, motels, hotels, trailers, food, utilities, and anything else they can whine and complain about wanting for free.
