Paper Blasted for ‘Texan of the Year’
January 4th, 2008 . by TexasFredDALLAS (AP) - When editorial writers at The Dallas Morning News chose the illegal immigrant as the newspaper’s Texan of the Year, they expected some criticism. But not this: 800 blog postings and more than 150 letters to the editor blasting the decision.
Some of the critics threatened to cancel subscriptions or pressure advertisers to stop doing business with the paper.
“What an asinine article!!!” exclaimed one reader.
“What part of stupid are you guys that support illegal aliens? This puts us ALL in danger,” another wrote.
Editorial writer Rodger Jones said he was “surprised at the nastiness” of the backlash, some of which came from readers who had only seen the editorial’s headline.
The Texan of the Year designation, announced in Sunday’s paper, has been an annual year-end editorial page feature since 2003.
It recognizes - without passing judgment - someone who has had a major impact or affected change in Texas during the past year. Previous recipients included the city of Houston for its response to Hurricane Katrina and a former police officer whose two sons died in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as George W. Bush and Karl Rove.

I wrote about this HERE and apparently I’m not the only one that felt like the actions of the Dallas Morning News was a slap in the face to ALL Texans…
Look at the list of previous winners, if you discount Bush and Rove, it’s a great list, and all pretty dog-gone deserving in my opinion, but for the Dallas Morning News to name ILLEGAL invaders as their ‘Texan of the year’, well, that’s nothing less than a total shame and a terrible travesty…
The big wigs at Dallas Morning News are trying their very best to put some kind of positive spin on this BS but it’s just not going to float, they site various reasons for this, that and the other and yet I see nowhere that there is ANY justification for the Dallas Morning News to name ILLEGAL INVADERS as Texan of the Year…
Hey, Dallas Morning News, they’re NOT Texans, you guys are supposed to be well educated journalists and respected newspaper people, do you need a small time blogger like me to loan you a dictionary so you can look up the word ILLEGAL for yourselves??
And they are NOT ILLEGAL immigrants, they are INVADERS, and they are here ILLEGALLY, can’t you bleeding heart libbers get that through your thick heads?? And yes, the ILLEGAL INVADERS have had an impact on Texas, that is NOT the issue here, the issue is naming them Texans of the Year, it’s almost like you people at the DMN think they did something good…
The Dallas Morning News lost a subscriber when we read this, it was an immediate reaction too, I am firmly convinced that if you want to do some kind of serious protest, do it with MONEY, put your money where your mouth is and hit em in the wallet, apparently a lot of other folks did too, not nearly enough to actually hurt the Dallas Morning News, but some DID take the action right to them…
And to the subscribers of the Dallas Morning News that didn’t do anything other than shrug their shoulders, you get what you deserve, it may take a bit more time for my words to come to fruition, but your apathy IS going to come back to bite you…

Unfreakin’ believable! This is the first I’d heard of it. I guess we shouldn’t be surprised whenever we see the proof that the MSM is caught up in the web of political corruption. Useful idiots of the oligarchy. That’s all corporate media is today. I’m a little surprised The Dallas Morning News didn’t just go all the way and close the piece by quoting former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales when he said, “As go Hispanics, so goes America.”

I canceled my subscription to their newspaper a few years ago when not only did they lean wayyyyy to the left but their newspaper handlers double stick me in the ass for subscriptions.!!!!!

You BET you do it with money. Which is why I write NO checks to the RNC any more and simply enclose my standard “why no more cash” form letter in every envelope.
