Iraqi Soldier Kills 2 American Troops
January 5th, 2008 . by TexasFredBAGHDAD (AP) – An Iraqi soldier allegedly shot dead two American troops while they were patrolling together north of the capital, the U.S. military and an Iraqi official said Saturday. The Iraqi official said the suspect has links to militant groups.
Three other U.S. soldiers and a civilian interpreter were wounded in the Dec. 26 attack, the military said in a statement. The shooting occurred as American and Iraqi soldiers were trying to establish a combat outpost in Ninevah province in northern Iraq.
According to Brig. Mutaa Habib Jassim al-Khazrachi, commander of the Iraqi army’s 2nd Division, an initial investigation has indicated that the Iraqi soldier has links to local militant groups.
Al-Khazrachi said the shooting occurred in eastern Mosul as American and Iraqi troops were in a firefight with gunmen.

My most sincere sympathies to the families of these troops, they died doing their duty to this nation and doing what they were likely very proud to do and to you, I offer my deepest condolences…
That said, quite frankly, I am surprised this hasn’t happened more often than it has, the Iraqi army and police are chock full of troops that have links to militant groups…
Our troops continue to DO the job assigned, and of that we can ALL be proud, but they continue to serve, and die, in a place we have no business being, doing a job that didn’t need to be done as they follow the orders of a lame duck POTUS that sent them to do HIS bidding for HIS reasons, not reasons of national security…
Iraq is NOT our friend or ally, the Iraqi military is a joke and is comprised of many that would, and in this case HAVE, kill our troops as quickly as any other al-Qaeda member and al-Maliki is nothing more than a war lord that got elected and continues to prove his uselessness as every day goes by…
God bless our troops, they are the only thing good to happen to Iraq in a long time, maybe they CAN win the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people, maybe they CAN bring Iraq into THIS century, because if it happens at all it WILL be by their efforts and not those of the current crop of Iraqi OR American political leaders…

Hear, Hear Fred, well said.
Amen brother…
Wish I could say I knew where this is all going but I am simply out of opinions on this one. I’m not sure it’s forecastable at all.
