Katrina victims sue U.S. government for more than $3 quadrillion

NEW ORLEANS — Hurricane Katrina’s victims have put a price tag on their suffering: $3,014,170,389,176,410 and counting.

That quadrillion-dollar figure represents a fraction of the roughly 489,000 claims that residents and business owners filed against the federal government over damage from the failure of levees and flood walls following the Aug. 29, 2005, hurricane.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it has received 247 claims for at least $1 billion apiece, including one for an even $3 quadrillion.

“That’s the mother of all high numbers,” said Loren Scott, a Baton Rouge-based economist.

Someone in Baker, 93 miles northwest of New Orleans, filed the claim that inflated the total from the trillions into the quadrillions. Baker is far from the epicenter of Katrina’s destruction, but the city hosts a trailer park where hundreds of evacuees have lived since the storm.

For the sake of perspective: a mere $1 quadrillion would dwarf the U.S. gross domestic product, which Scott said was $13.2 trillion in 2007, while a stack of one quadrillion pennies would reach Saturn.

How many zeros can YOU comprehend?? Some people just get into filing frivolous law suits but this story takes the cake…

Once again we see the slugs at work, those that would defile the true need that some folks face in New Orleans as they tie up the courts with ridiculous numbers like those mentioned in this story…

And in MY opinion, ANY judge that would allow this type of action to go forward, whether in State of Federal court, should be removed from the bench and shot, on the spot, this is the most ridiculous abuse of the courts system to come down the pike in a long time and only serves to further the denigration of the GOOD people of Louisiana…

I have been a bit harsh on the good folks of Louisiana lately, I have posted some very unkind, albeit true words concerning Louisiana crooks in suits, ie: politicians and other government scum, and some folks took those criticisms personally, I assure you, they were not directed at the GOOD folks of Louisiana, but to those that were offended, if the shoe fits…

There are some absolutely wonderful people in Louisiana but there are also some of the most despicable freaks of nature to ever walk the face of this earth as well, just like any other state, but the cretins that initiated this debacle are beyond crooked, they are pure garbage and should be totally ashamed of their actions, but they won’t be, they’re already at work planning their next big scam…

And you know, if you look at this in it’s proper perspective, why don’t these asshats just go ahead and sue God?? Louisiana and the U.S. government didn’t cause Katrina, and no one is entitled to a 100% bail out, Katrina was an act of nature, a part of life, why should the government have to pay for their mental problems that supposedly stem FROM Katrina??

Too many people are already trying to ride that gravy train, some call it PTSD and want the government to fully subsidize them, some cases are real, some are likely as fake as it gets but maybe that’s where the idea came from…

There is no reason on God’s green earth why these people cannot wade in and do for themselves, as countless others have after major hurricanes.
PTSD..get the eff over it. That’s reserved for our Military and REAL victims of REAL crimes.
I agree the damn judge needs killin’. If this suit goes forward, I might sue for aggravating me half to death with the constant reminders of how worthless/useless a segment of society is.

  2. Ranando says:

Throw $57.42 worth of Cocaine, a few buckets of Popeye and a couple of Watermellons and a can of Anal Lube out the window of a plane and they’ll drop that suit.

  3. GUYK says:

It just seems so ironic that after Rita the good folks of SW La and E. Texas jumped in and put things back together…yeah, they had help from FEMA but I didn’t hear much crying and gnashing of the teeth about how poor they were and how it was all the ‘guvmits’ fault.

From where I sit I figure that putting New Orleans back together again at taxpayer expense is a rip off of the taxpayers. If in fact the city is important to the economy then private enterprise will rebuild it as it is needed. BUt there was a silver lining to the hurricane cloud..La got a new “guvna” who aint a dim-a-crit!

  4. FHB says:

Oh, those shiftless bastards. Makes me wanna see them all shipped to the friggin’ Sahara. Let therm get a taste of REAL poverty for once.

  5. There should be criminal proceedings against anyone filing frivolous lawsuits. After that, maybe we can get to the lawyers that make them possible…

  6. I vote that we declare the US bankrupt and award the good people of New Orleans their city as a judgment and call it even.

  7. BobF says:

Not sure if this is true but I’ve head that in Japan if your file a lawsuit and loose, you’re responsible for all court costs along with any expenses accrued by the party you tried to sue. We need that in this country.

PSTD??? They’re no different than any other person in this country that’s lost their house to fire or any other natural disaster. The other day in Missouri we had Tornado’s and quite a few folks lost everything. Last year a whole town in Kansas was devastated by Tornado’s. You don’t see those people whining and crying like the entitlement generation in New Orleans.

  8. I don’t know about Japan, but in Britain it is the so-called English Rule, which requires the losing party to pay the winner’s legal costs, including lawyers’ fees.

Seems like there is some merit, especially in the frivolous cases. But the lawyers are still getting paid either way which is not always a good thing.

  9. The U.S. should pull a “The Mouse That Roared.” Declare bankruptcy and then demand fiscal help from Louisiana.

    BZ

    P.S.
Once again, I insist, proving my point that throwing another cent into that useless pit of worthless property is POINTLESS.

  10. Okay, short and sweet. The very next time that anyone hammers me for being a cold blooded Libertarian?

    Go screw yourselves whiners.

    A quadrillion???? LMAO

Maybe we send them to frisco and get em a Queerdrillin….

  13. crackula says:

That is got to be the most upsetting thing i have seen in a while. I agree that no one can truley put a price on suffering, but this….. This is stupid.

I can only hang my head at the way people act. What these people need to remember is that other people in the us are suffering also, and not just from hurricans. What about the fires in california. What next are they going to start a lawsuit for lack of fire protection.

HEY PEOPLE. WE CANT STOP GOD.
