U.S. airstrike in Iraq one of largest of the war

BAGHDAD — U.S. planes dropped 40,000 pounds of explosives on Baghdad’s southern outskirts Thursday in a 10-minute massive strike, attacking what the military said were safe havens for al-Qaeda.

The air attack along the Tigris River “was one of the largest airstrikes since the onset of the war” in 2003, said Maj. Alayne Conway, a spokeswoman for troops in the Multi-National Division-Center, which controls the broad swath of territory south of Baghdad.

The attack was part of a nationwide campaign launched Tuesday against al-Qaeda in Iraq.

Conway said 35 al-Qaeda militants were killed and 25 houses and 13 vehicles were destroyed.

The air raid was followed by a ground attack that led to 12 arrests and the discovery of two houses used to torture kidnap victims, according to an Iraqi officer who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak.

U.S. airstrike in Iraq one of largest of the war

OK, I rarely, if ever have anything negative to say about our military and their wonderful efforts in Iraq, their CiC on the other hand, is an entirely different matter, but for me the U.S. military itself is totally off limits as far as criticism goes, but I am going to have to call PURE BULLSHIT on this story…

40K pounds of bombs were dropped on targets and there were 12 people left to arrest and 2 houses that could be identified as ‘torture sites’?? If that’s not BULLSHIT, I never heard it…

40K pounds of bombs, 10 missions and 40 targets?? Look, I applaud the effort but when we call in bombing runs on enemy targets and there are ANY survivors, or anything left that can be identified as a device of ANY type, we’re not calling in the correct tonnage needed or the correct munition needed to DESTROY the target…

Fighting a politically correct war is NOT going to get the job done anywhere in the world, war is an ugly, dirty, bloody job and it’s not for the feint of heart, weak of stomach or for those that lack backbone and only seek to establish a presidential legacy…

If we’re going to fight a war, by God fight the war, if we’re going to supposedly place 40K pounds of bombs on target and there are still people left alive that need arresting, get the hell out and forget about it, because you are NOT seriously prosecuting a WAR, you’re looking for ‘feel good’ headlines…

    Fred,

Great minds think alike. I was thinking the same thing, why would there be anyone alive?

I’m watching and listening to the debate and all I can say is we’re screwed. Except for Ron Paul they all, everyone, think this Iraq War is doing just fine.

    Like I said, we’re screwed.

We need a Ronald Reagan, George Patton, etc… We need a War president and there’s not one in the bunch.

This is not an endorsment for Ron Paul by the way.

  2. TexasFred says:

Yeah, I’m watching too, and Ron Paul has proven to the world that he really IS a damned moonbat…

Part, and I mean MAYBE 50% of what he says about Iraq is not too bad, past that, he’s as goofy as a it gets…

  3. TexasFred says:

    For 40K pounds of bombs??

I expected a bunch of dead little sheet heads…

  4. BobF says:

It depends on what they dropped the bombs on. You give the Air Force a target and they’ll put Bombs on Target every time.

The article said there were 40 different targets. That’s a thousand pounder per target.

  6. TexasFred says:

You really like to stir the shit huh Butch?? Oh well, links are links and I DO have a problem with the way this story is written, NOT with the men and women of our military, just with the very fact that we dropped a bomb on ANYTHING and there were survivors… Or buildings left, you know, just the little details like that…
