WASHINGTON (AP) - With recession fears rising and the stock market tumbling, President Bush on Friday called for up to $150 billion in tax relief for consumers and business - and said there was no time to waste.

Bush’s urgent remarks gave fresh impetus to congressional leaders already hard at work on an economic rescue package that would include extra money for food stamps and jobless benefits in addition to tax rebates of hundreds of dollars each for millions of Americans. The hope is that people would immediately spend those rebates and give the economy a badly needed boost.

“I believe we can come together on a growth package very quickly, and we’re going to need to,” Bush said.

Wall Street remained skeptical. The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 59.91 points after plummeting 306 points a day earlier.

Bush said the rescue effort should be both quick and temporary, a one-time boost for a national economy that is in danger of sliding into the first recession since 2001 if it hasn’t already edged across that line. The president’s tone was somber in his remarks at the White House, but his mood was upbeat later in the day when he visited a factory to underscore his focus on the economy.

Let me ask the readers a question or 2…

Where does this $150B in fast tax relief come from?? Do we have it just lying around in reserve and waiting for moments such as this??

We are in the midst of the biggest screwup in years, for 1 thing, the Bush administration is taxing the living hell out of every American worker that they can find to keep the Debacle in Iraq funded and to keep up the rebuilding OF Iraq, BILLIONS of our dollars are being thrown down that hole called Iraq and as I said recently, this investment is NOT giving us ANY return, not a modest return, not a small return, ZERO return, that’s all, ZERO, the only bang for the buck we get is when we blow something up…

We pour BILLIONS of American tax dollars into Africa, to fight AIDS and feed the poor little starving children when we need to be spending that money to care for Americans that have AIDS and are cold and hungry…

Our economy isn’t in the tank, not yet anyway, but we can’t keep spending like drunken sailors on shore leave, a few BILLION here, a couple of BILLION there and oh yeah, lets GIVE Americans $150B of their money back…

I know it’s not going to happen but I can tell Bush how to save BILLIONS of OUR tax dollars, pull the troops OUT of Afghanistan and Iraq, bomb BOTH places back to the stone age and send al-Qaeda a message, ‘no more fights, if you so much as set off a fire cracker, we’re gonna make something of yours just go away, no 2nd chance, no PC war fighting, no warnings and NO apology, we’re gonna blow YOU up, no matter who you are or where you are…’

We could save BILLIONS of OUR tax dollars with that foreign policy, we could also help OUR people, OUR nation and OUR financial infrastructure, IF, and it’s a BIG IF, if we could get George Bush to forget building his legacy, kissing Mexican ass and thinking he is the great peace maker and get him to actually take care of AMERICA 1st…

Maybe it’s just me, maybe I’m old fashioned, but taking care of your own people and your own nation before you take care of others, well it just seems like a good idea to me, and if you’re the President of the United States of America, that should be YOUR 1st concern too I believe…
