Fred Thompson Quits Presidential Race
January 22nd, 2008 . by TexasFredNAPLES, Fla. (AP) – Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson quit the Republican presidential race on Tuesday, after a string of poor finishes in early primary and caucus states.
“Today, I have withdrawn my candidacy for president of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort,†Thompson said in a statement.
Thompson’s fate was sealed last Saturday in the South Carolina primary, when he finished third in a state that he had said he needed to win.
In the statement, Thompson did not say whether he would endorse any of his former rivals. He was one of a handful of members of Congress who supported Arizona Sen. John McCain in 2000 in his unsuccessful race against George W. Bush for the party nomination.
The actor-politician best known as the gruff district attorney on NBC’s “Law & Order†placed third in Iowa and South Carolina, two states seemingly in line with his right-leaning pitch and laid-back style, and fared even worse in the four other states that have held contests thus far. Money already tight, he ran out of it altogether as the losses piled up.

Fred Thompson Quits Presidential Race
I personally believe that had Thompson actually fired up and done some serious campaign work, we’d be looking at the next POTUS, I sincerely believe that Thompson is the most conservative of the entire crowd, but I also believe that Thompson turned out to be the laziest candidate I have ever seen, and thus, a massive disappointment to all of his supporters…
The Fred Thompson blog roll and support site that I was sponsoring is no more, I have deleted both, I can see no use in having a blog roll or web site that supports a quitter…

I really liked Fred Thompson, but was puzzled as to his campaign strategy and lack of energy. I thought we had someone in him that might shore up our Republican Ideals.
I don’t like McCain at all, and I am from Arizona…lol.
Rudy has dropped off the radar.
Not sure who to support at this point, but am definitely not in favor of any of the Dem candidates.
What you think now Fred? You have another choice?
Well, as far as the current crop of candidates is concerned, on BOTH sides, and at the risk of pissing off a thick headed asshat on Oki, None of the Above is looking better all the time…
Agreed….sigh.
All the Republican National Committee cares about is who can beat Hillary. They could care less about Conservative values or ideals. Right now they believe McCain is their best bet to beat Hillary and that’s who they will push.
Of the three front runners, McCain, Huckabee, and Romney, I believe Romney is the most Conservative of the three but that isn’t saying much. You don’t get elected Governor of Massatwoshits by being a Conservative.
Yeah, here we go with the ‘lesser of the evils’ thing again…
It’s sad TF…
I was looking for more from Fred T as I know you where too.
Where do we go now? HuckaMittaCain?
He didn’t have a chance, with the writers being on strike and all.
The director/advisor told him they wanted him to act, portray Fred Thompson, he couldn’t do it.
To bad, “He could have been somebody, he could have been a contender.”
I’m not going to go for the lesser of two evils again. I can still write in Duncan Hunter.
Bob is onto the right idea, write in Hunter and Tancredo…
I know a few that think the write in campaign and None of the Above have no use but ya know, there comes a time when you have to make a stand and there is no one I want to stand for in this current crowd…
Hunter and Tancredo were it, but they didn’t have a chance with the MSM, Thompson didn’t have anyone to write a script, so, we either write in or we ’settle’ for the lesser of 2 or 3, maybe 4 evils…
Shit, I’m writing in Texas Fred… that way maybe we can still win!
I would prefer Tancredo/Hunter.
You can’t just wander around and give the same speech everywhere you go. Fred seemed to be like the old phonograph stuck and skipping.
We need to focus on the agenda. Looks like our only hope is to direct policy from the bleachers. We stopped amnesty we can make policy.
Having never has VD….
Twotours, I fully agree, he turned out to be as boring as watching paint dry, it’s the ‘clap’ reference that has me worried…
And the fact that you seem to be acquainted with ‘getting it’…
Not to piss off my fellow Conservatives, but I am looking really hard at Ron Paul.
Doesn’t piss me off, free will is what it’s all about, I just hope you’re smart enough to ‘look’ and not fall for it…
