(CBS) A small town in Wales is dealing with a string of suicides that some believe is Internet-related.
CBS News correspondent Richard Roth reports that the latest victim was 17-year-old Natasha Randall; she hanged herself in the bedroom of her home in Blaengarw.
It is the seventh such tragic death in Wales this year – at least six young men, who shared some link, have also taken their own lives.
Some of the seven were casual acquaintances; they all used Internet chat rooms or a social networking site called Beebo. They also all lived within a few miles of each other. But police say neither the Internet sites nor any other shared connection explains the cluster of suicides.
In Bridgend, a former coal-mining town of 40,000, authorities are now re-examining a total of 13 suicides in the past year by people under age 30.

Is The Internet Linked To Welsh Suicides?
There are some weak willed and weak minded people in this world, they are followers, and they will fall for anything, they’re like sheep and can be twisted to any use by the masochistic and dominant, they can be used, abused and persuaded to do the will of the strong, and the internet is covered up with them…
Remember this bunch of nuts? Heaven’s Gate Cult??
How about Jim Jones ?? Where do you suppose that would have gone if he’d had the ‘net at his fingertips??
And most recently, ‘net powered stories regarding how the Girl killed herself over online hoax??
For some reason, if you have a web site, you seem to draw ‘groupies’ from time to time, and that can be a very unhealthy thing, having fans is great, and that’s what all bloggers are looking for, a fan base of regular readers, but stalkers groupies are a strange bunch, they can be dangerous, to you, your family, and if you happen to be someone that would enjoy abusing people, it can be dangerous for the stalker groupies themselves…
I have had a few folks send me emails telling me their life story, I mean ALL of it, things I wouldn’t tell my best friend, much less someone with a blog, someone I don’t know and have never met, and they tell me how much they admire me and my attitude and so wish they had the guts to speak out like I do, and they ask, ‘how can I get to be like you?’, and I have to ask, WHY would you want to?? Be YOU, what works for me in my life may be totally wrong for you in yours…
I’m not a nurturing sort, I don’t have a strong desire to help everyone I see, I don’t care if your kids don’t respect you, that’s your problem, I don’t care if your old Aunt Gertie was a Lez with a meth problem and she blew her head off when her 450 pound girlfriend left her, if she wants to commit suicide, that’s between her and whatever ‘higher power’ she believes in, and that’s why I won’t even answer emails that ask me, ‘what should I do?’ or ‘what would YOU do?’…
I don’t need some bunch of suicidal moonbats that are looking for the strength and approval of someone else to justify taking themselves out and leaving MY name on their computer as being the reason why, ‘Well, I was talking to TexasFred and he said…’, notoriety is one thing, being blamed as the responsible party is an entirely different matter, and damn, there would be law suits that would follow, and I didn’t work all of MY life to have some distraught mother that’s as goofy as her suicidal kid, sue me penniless…
Quite frankly, I have NO respect for anyone that would take their own life, and these suicidal ‘net junkies are some sick people, this blog and computer is a hobby, it’s are NOT my life and there are some people in this world that need to realize, a screen and some on-line games are NOT a substitute for real life, getting the highest score of all time on a game doesn’t come close to actually scoring a touchdown or hitting that home run, and I think that’s what bothers me more than anything about this weak minded computer generation, if they can do it on the ‘net, it must be as good as real life, and hey, suicide can’t be a bad thing, I kill, and get killed several times a day, and it doesn’t even hurt, I can reset and get another life any time I want one…
No, you can’t…

I figure a nut is a nut and if it wasn’t some internet thing they would figure some other excuse to off themselves.
I understand where you stand on this one, and I agree as well.
In another cyberworld, I mod on a website for sexually, physically, and mentally abused women. As a survivor of abuse, I am supportive of the needs of these women. I don’t, however, have a high tolerance for those who use these boards as “poor pitiful Pearl” posts. The site I am on does not even allow suicide posts. But there are those who will seek sympathy instead of self-help. And often these people find that it is easier to take the path of least resistance and spend their lives waiting for salvation from someone else or take the ultimate fool’s (or coward’s) way out. Sad, maybe, but this is not a new phenomenon just one that is now shared globally instead of locally.
There are two types of people in this world: survivors or victims. We all have our story; we all make our choice to be one or the other. I have my story, but I have heard even worse. Those things that we do not allow to kill us, will only make us stronger.
It sounds like a sci-fi movie at first glance. One of those low budget things, with actors you’ve never heard of and probably won’t hear of again, unless they happen to survive and show up in sequels. There are weak minded people everywhere, gullible, easily led astray, with no foundations. The internet is just a new way to reach and influence them.
Very well said, Fred.
Now…if those folks would just read your post and take it to heart……
Yep, it’s always too easy to blame some sort of media. I feel sorry for the parents, etc. , but if it was the Net, or the rock music, then we’d all be doin’ it.
1. Thinning the herd.
2. More oxygen for me to breathe.
That’s as seriously as I take it.

It’s the rift, the outside is drifting in.
Better get Torchwood, because the 21st century is when everything changes.
