GOP Debate Focuses on Iraq War, Abortion
May 3rd, 2007 . by TexasFredSIMI VALLEY, Calif. (AP) – Alone among 10 Republican presidential contenders, Rudy Giuliani said in campaign debate Thursday night “it would be OK” if the Supreme Court upholds a 1973 abortion rights ruling. “It would be OK to repeal it. It would be OK also if a strict constructionist viewed it as precedent,” said the former New York city mayor, who has a record of supporting abortion rights.
His nine rivals agreed that it would be a great day if the court overturns the landmark ruling.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney acknowledged he had changed his mind on the subject when he began to delve into the issue of cloning. He said his position had once effectively been “pro-choice.”
But Giuliani hedged when asked about his present position.
“I think the Court has to make that decision and then the country can deal with it,” he said.
The issue of abortion looms large in the 2008 Republican presidential campaign as a wide swath of the party’s activists support the overturning of the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling.
Both Romney and Giuliani must persuade conservative voters they are ready to embrace that view – or else persuade them to overlook the issue in picking a candidate for the White House.

GOP Debate Focuses on Iraq War, Abortion
I am going to keep this one short and to the point, IF you have been a supporter of Rudy Giuliani in the past, and IF, after tonight, you’re STILL a supporter of Rudy Giuliani, you are not a Conservative, you’re not even much of a Republican and your continued support of Giuliani exposes you to be a total fool and a dupe of this ‘closet Dem libber’ that is trying his very best to screw America…
Don’t fall for this asshole and his ’song and dance’ people, he is a monster in disguise, all this Americas Mayor stuff is a crock of bullshit…

I really don’t give a rat’s ass if he can walk on water. This “RINO” has alot of people snowed because he was so visible during 9-11. Taking nothing away from the guy, during such a tragedy, he led his city’s response well, but he is no conservative that’s for sure. Maybe this’ll help clear it up for any other skeptical readers.
Wadical, THAT is totally awesome, thank you kindly!!
All it takes is his flip flop on gun “control” to see that he’s just a shifty politician looking for votes. Hell, he’s from NY; that’s one strike to begin with.
The FDNY doesn’t even support the idiot, that alone has to say something.
I really could care less about Iraq or Abortion. Neither one of those issues are going to mean squat if we don’t get our southern border secured. Our country’s going to hell and our leaders are arguing about freaking abortion?
Bluto, abortion IS one of the most important topics we can have, but you’re right about the borders, that has got to change, and Tancredo is the only one hammering it, but, it’s his ONLY topic at this time…
And Iraq is something I care deeply about, NOT the assholes living there, but our TROOPS that are there, and dying every day for some shithead A-Rab bastards that mean NOTHING in MY opinion…
We need our guys OUT of Iraq or we need to mop Iraq up, either way, we’ll be better off, but Iraq is killing the Repubs with Conservatives, and without Conservatives, a Repub can’t get elected to dog catcher…
We have got to have a well rounded Conservative, and so far, I’m not seeing one in this bunch…
I understand your sentiments Fred, and I *DO* agree with you. But seriously, they’ve been arguing abortion for decades, and nothing has changed, just more people blowing hot air and taking the spotlight. If our country isn’t going to stop the illegal invasion, none of the other stuff will mean anything, because it won’t be our country any longer. Then maybe we can argue about what’s best for Mexico….
I understand what you mean though. I’m just angry about hearing the same old song & dance from politicians.
Bluto, I totally understand man, I really do… I feel much the same way, we have a lot of things wrong that MUST be addressed, and soon… And if this batch of wannabes doesn’t get on the stick, really soon, we need another batch to take a shot at…
Most of these bastards don’t care about serving the PEOPLE of the USA, they care about BEING the POTUS…
BINGO. You nailed it on the head! They will *say* and *do* anything to be prez. Instead of saying or doing anything to serve the best interests of our country.
Of course I nailed it, I told you, I am a freaking genius, I’m just under appreciated…
I’m not sure I understand. Iraq is important, yes but so is Abortion, so is illegal immigration, so is gun control….so what? Why must only one issue be addressed at a time? Abortion is an issue that Pro-Life conservatives will never abandon. We believe it to be the taking of a human life….murder. What makes their lives any less valuble than the life of a soldier, or the life of a victim of terrorism or crime? You don’t have to lower the priority of one issue to raise the priority of another.
