Texans Push for Open Carry License

December 12th, 2008 . by TexasFred

From my Texas blogging buddy and fellow gun lover, Concerned Citizen over at
Judging Truth, I give you:

Texans Push for Open Carry License

Ever since Texas passed it Concealed Handgun License the state has seen a sharp decrease in violent, property and petty crimes. Now there is an organized movement to expand the right of licensed gun owners on several fronts. Currently there are two pushes in this state to change the laws surrounding the carrying of weapons. The first one is targeted at eliminating the restrictions for carrying a weapon on college campuses and the second is an attempt to completely change the Texas Concealed Handgun Licence into an Open Carry one.

The first challenge to the current Texas law has been gaining ground for a quite while and is supported by organizations such as Students for Concealed Carry on Campus (SCCC), a group that is fighting for the rights of students in several states to lawfully carry weapons on to college campuses. Their most recent action was filing a suit with current and former Colorado University students challenging the university’s ban on weapons. (Press release) The strong push from students has prompted the Texas legislature to review the law in the next session beginning in January. Students in Texas argue that the prohibition of weapons on college campuses creates gun free zones that are easily targeted by the criminal element and by those intending to cause as much harm as possible in desperate acts such as was seen at Virginia Tech last year. The further argue that by denying them their constitutional right to protect themselves and by failing to provide adequate security for the campuses, the law places them at undue risk. This argument has found sweeping support among students and apparently increasing support among law makers during the last session. With the Texas gubernatorial seat facing a clear challenge in the next election, this could easily become a strong campaign issue. I will be watching the developments on this and reporting on them as they occur.

The second and potentially most impacting challenge to the Texas Concealed Handgun Law, comes in the form of petition to change Texas to an Open Carry state. Currently, the Texas law requires the possession of a firearm for licensed persons only if the firearm is completely concealed from view. More and more states are converting to some form of Open Carry status for firearm owners, whether it be licensed such as Connecticut, Indiana, Iowa, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Utah, and Tennessee; or a permissive form of Open Carry such as Arizona, Alaska, Idaho, Kentucky, Montana, New Mexico, South Dakota, Virginia, Vermont, and Wyoming. The movement in Texas is supported by a group known as OpenCarry.org who has begun a petition directed at Governor Rick Perry demanding that the State of Texas recognize the rights of its citizens to carry openly in public.

The petition can be found here:
Open Carry of Handguns in Texas

There are almost 47,500 signatures on the petition at this time, including mine. There will be several more when I tell my family and friends about this effort. I encourage all of you who believe in the natural, God given right to self-protection and self-preservation and the constitutional right to keep and bear arms, to go and sign this petition, but most assuredly those of you who live in the State of Texas need your names on this document.

I will be closely watching this issue as well and reporting here as things develop.

Please read Judging Truth regularly, you won’t be disappointed unless you’re some kind of whiny-assed, anti-gun libtard!

Hutchison signals she’s ready for a showdown with Perry in 2010

December 10th, 2008 . by TexasFred
Hutchison signals she’s ready for a showdown with Perry in 2010
AUSTIN – In creating a committee Thursday to explore a run for governor, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison sent her strongest signal yet that she’s ready for a showdown against Gov. Rick Perry that would cost millions and sharply divide the Texas GOP.

Ms. Hutchison has considered running for governor before but always backed away. This time, by launching the committee, she has cleared the way to open a campaign office and raise money for the race.

Although the Republican primary is 15 months away, the contours of the race have already emerged – Mr. Perry casting her as part of the problem in Washington and Ms. Hutchison labeling him a divisive, ineffective leader in Austin.

“As any person watching the last legislative session could see, it was very contentious and acrimonious,” she said. “Certainly Texas is looking for change in that office.”

Mr. Perry, who has repeatedly said he will seek re-election, fired back through a spokesman by suggesting that the Republican senator has spent too much time outside Texas.

“There hasn’t been much good coming out of Washington – record deficits, bailouts, spending,” said Mark Miner.

Full Story Here:
Hutchison signals she’s ready for a showdown with Perry in 2010

There are a few things that Kay Bailey Hutchison needs to think about before she comes home to run for Governor. There are a lot of Texas voters that are seriously pissed off at her. I am one of them.

And why are some Texas voters so pissed of at the once most prestigious woman in Texas you ask? KBH took a stance against border security, Hutchison on defensive over border fence. KBH took a stance FOR amnesty for the illegal invaders that are over running our state and this nation, Immigrant Dream Act Fails Key Senate Vote. KBH proved herself to be nothing more than a SOCIALIST when she vote FOR the Wall Street bailout, Congress OKs historic bailout bill. She voted FOR a bailout that approximately 68% of Texas voters told her they didn’t want. KBH did NOT listen to the wishes of those that put her in office, an event that is happening all too often with far too many elected officials.

Hutchison has ignored the wishes of the people of Texas. Politicians seem all to eager to dismiss the wishes of those that put them where they are it seems. It’s time to send a message to KBH, we, the people of Texas, need to now ignore her by NOT supporting her run for the State House. It’s time for KBH to retire from politics, if she ignores the people of Texas as a U.S. Senator, how in the world can any of us expect her to pay attention if she were Governor?

Personally, I will support Rick Perry against Hutchison. He’s not a great Governor, he’s not as bad as I feel Hutchison would be. And I am on record, right here, right now, as saying, IF the Dems or Libertarians put up an intelligent and viable choice, and KBH were to get the Republican nod, I will support an alternative candidate! I did so in the presidential race, I made my views quite plain for everyone, I will NEVER support the lesser of the evils again.

Texans have great memories, we don’t forget things like the recent antics of KBH, I won’t forget, and I won’t allow Texans to forget. I would be betraying my principles to do otherwise on a Texas vote of such importance!

Texas time warp? State criticized for mental care

Texas time warp? State criticized for mental care

DENTON, Texas (AP) - For more than a century, thousands of mentally disabled Americans were isolated from society, sometimes for life, by being confined to huge public hospitals.

In at least one place, they still are.

Texas has more mentally disabled patients in institutions than any other state, and the federal government has concluded that the state’s care system is stubbornly out of step with modern mental health practices.

Critics allege that Texas remains stuck in an era when the mentally disabled were hidden away in large, impersonal facilities far from relatives and communities.

“In Texas, it’s like a time warp,” said Jeff Garrison-Tate, an advocate who wants to close the 13 hospitals called “state schools” and move patients into group homes.

For the third time in three years, the criticism has attracted the attention of the Justice Department, which on Tuesday accused Texas of violating residents’ constitutional rights to proper care.

Yeah, but just look at the bright side. They don’t beat us too often, they feed us well, we can watch FOX News, we go to Wal-Mart almost every day, and the gun range too, we can shoot a lot, we make money from our *crafts fair* and they give us unfettered access to the ‘net!

I just wish they would stop putting saltpeter in the mashed taters! :?

The Great Republic of Texas

November 24th, 2008 . by TexasFred

The Great Republic of Texas

Please note that Texas is the only state with a legal right to secede from the Union. We Texans love y’all, but we’ll probably have to take action since Barack Hussein Obama won the election. We’ll miss you too.

Here is what can happen:

#1: Barack Hussein Obama becomes President of the United States, Texas immediately secedes from the Union.

#2: Rick Perry will become the President of the Republic of Texas.

#3: Y’all can keep George W. Bush, we don’t need or want him.

So what does Texas have to do to survive as a Republic?

1. NASA is just south of Houston, Texas. We will control the space industry.

2. We refine over 85% of the gasoline in the United States.

3. Defense Industry–we have over 65% of it. The term “Don’t mess with Texas,” will take on a whole new meaning.

4. Oil - we can supply all the oil that the Republic of Texas will need for the next 300 years. Yankee states? Sorry about that.

5. Natural Gas - again we have all we need (The Barnett Shale) and it’s too bad about those Northern States. John Kerry will have to figure out a way to keep them warm.

6. Computer Industry - we currently lead the nation in producing computer chips and communications–small companies like Texas Instruments, Dell Computer, EDS, Raytheon, National Semiconductor, Motorola, Intel, AMD, Atmel, Applied Materials, Ball Semiconductor, Dallas Semiconductor, Delphi, Nortel, Alcatel, etc, etc. The list goes on and on.

7. Medical Care - We have the largest research centers for cancer research, the best burn centers and the top trauma units in the world, as well as other large health centers. Dallas has some of the best hospitals in the United States.

8. We have enough colleges to keep us going: University of Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Rice, SMU, University of Houston, Baylor, UNT (University of North Texas), Texas Women’s University, etc. Ivy grows better in the South anyway.

9. We have a ready supply of workers.

10. We have essential control of the paper industry, plastics, insurance, etc.

11. In case of a foreign invasion, we have the Texas National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard. We don’t have an Army, but since everybody down here has at least six rifles and a pile of ammo, we can raise an Army in 24 hours if we need one. If the situation really gets bad, we can always call the Department of Public Safety and ask them to send over Chuck Norris and a couple of Texas Rangers.

12. We are totally self-sufficient in beef, poultry, hogs, and several types of grain, fruit and vegetables, and let’s not forget seafood from the Gulf. Also, everybody down here knows how to cook them so that they taste good. We don’t need your food.

This just names a few of the items that will keep the Republic of Texas in good shape. There isn’t a thing out there that we need and don’t have.

Now to the rest of the United States under President Obama:

Since you won’t have the refineries to get gas for your cars, only President Obama will be able to drive around in his big 9 mpg SUV. The rest of the United States will have to walk or ride bikes.

You won’t have any TV as the Space Center in Houston will cut off satellite communications to all but Texas subscribers.

You won’t have any natural gas to heat your homes, but since Mr. Obama has predicted global warming, you will not need the gas as long as you survive the 2000 years it will take to get enough heat from Global Warming.

Signed, The People of Texas

P.S. This is not a threatening letter - just a note to give you something to think about!

SLEEP WELL TONIGHT THE EYES OF TEXAS ARE UPON YOU!!

Texas Man Executed for Decade-Old Murder

November 21st, 2008 . by TexasFred

Texas Man Executed for Decade-Old Murder

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Texas has executed a man convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend nearly a decade ago.

Before his execution Thursday evening, Robert Jean Hudson repeatedly expressed love to his wife and a friend who watched through a window and ignored four relatives of his victim as they watched through another window into the death chamber.

“I will take you to heaven with me,” Hudson said from the death chamber gurney. “I will always be with you.”

Hudson, 45, was the 18th inmate put to death this year in Texas, which carries out more executions than any other U.S. state. Hudson’s execution was the last scheduled in Texas for this year. At least 10 Texas inmates are scheduled to die next year, including six in January.

Hudson stabbed Edith Kendrick, 35, to death and seriously wounded her 8-year-old son in the 1999 attack at her house near Dallas.

Texas Man Executed for Decade-Old Murder

Here in Texas, we WILL get it done, eventually. If you kill someone in Texas, we WILL kill you back, it just pisses me off that it takes so long to do so!

I guess Texas goes for the death penalty because we’re not as progressive as some intellectuals, I mean, we’re nothing but back woods, bog dwelling, beer swilling rednecks and we are a state of undereducated haters, and that hate drives us to impose justice on the criminal, at least that seems to be the opinion of a *few* people.

I have never been against capital punishment, it is a much needed, and under used option in MY opinion. Some psychologists seem to think that the death penalty doesn’t stop individuals from committing capital crimes. That may be true, execution may not be a deterrent, but it makes me feel a lot better just knowing that it IS on the table, and IS an option for the most heinous offenders.

Here is the only downside that I see, it takes entirely too long from conviction to execution. We have DNA now, we can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the crime was committed by the accused. If convicted, give them 1 appeal, if that fails, carry out the sentence, be done with it and stop wasting taxpayer money on a condemned criminal.

Administer justice, swift and sure, don’t let them sit for 10 years or more on Death Row.

And there is another thing Texans need to consider, George Bush and Rick Perry have never been bashful about signing a death warrant. Would a liberal Democrat or, evil worse, a despicable RINO, say maybe Kay Bailey Hutchison, would leadership like that be so willing to sign off on an execution?

Texas homeowner acquitted of killing teen intruder

September 27th, 2008 . by TexasFred

Texas homeowner acquitted of killing teen intruder

LAREDO, Texas (AP) - A Texas jury acquitted a man accused of killing a boy who broke into his home looking for a snack - a case that sparked outrage in this border city, where many thought the man should not have even been charged.

It took the jury of eight men and four women three hours Friday to find Jose Luis Gonzalez, 63, not guilty of murdering Francisco Anguiano, who was 13 when he and three friends broke into Gonzalez’s trailer to rummage for snacks and soda one night in July 2007.

“I thank God and my attorney, the jury and the judge,” Gonzalez said in Spanish after the verdict. “It was a case where it was my life or theirs, and it’s a very good thing that they (the jurors) decided in my favor.”

Gonzalez said he was sorry for Anguiano’s death, but “it was a situation in which I feared for my life.”

Texas law allows homeowners to use deadly force to protect themselves and their property. In June, a grand jury in Houston cleared a homeowner who shot and killed two burglars outside his neighbor’s house despite the dispatcher’s repeated request that he stay inside his own home.

Full Story Here:
Texas homeowner acquitted of killing teen intruder

I just love a feel good story, and THIS is a feel good story, unless you’re the burglar.

In Texas, the home owner is King of the Castle, thus the term The Castle Doctrine, and I guess, at some point in time, the bad guys are going to catch on to the fact that here in Texas we not only can, but many of us WILL punch their ticket to hell if they come around doing things that they just shouldn’t be doing.

I know there will be a few folks that read this and say, “Oh my God, that TexasFred guy is one mean, hard-hearted son of a bitch, all those poor boys were doing was looking for snacks and something to drink, surely he wouldn’t just shoot someone down like that”, well, guess again!

You’re right on this part though, I am a mean and hard-hearted son of a bitch if you come breaking into MY house, and I don’t care WHAT time of day or night it is. If a man is hungry or thirsty and he comes to me and says “Fred, I’m hungry man, can you help me out?”, you betcha, the guy is going to get something to eat and drink and anything else we can do to help him out.

But if he breaks in to my house, and tries to steal it from me, he has placed our lives in danger by that act alone, and that is all it takes. If my life or the life of my wife and family is threatened by a home invader, it’s all over, you’ll read it on the blog and see it in the news.

Let me be crystal clear on this, I don’t WANT to shoot anyone, I don’t go out looking for situations that place me in a position of having to shoot, but when circumstance places you in a position of you or them, I vote for ME and MINE every time, and once in a while, the criminal element of this nation leaves you with no other alternative.

I know that some states believe homeowners are supposed to retreat and surrender the home to the criminals, and that deadly force is only to be used as an absolute last resort. Thank GOD I don’t live in one of those states. There are many reasons to love Texas, but our common sense gun laws are the best reasons I can think of right off hand, God Bless Texas!
