I don’t carry a gun…

November 16th, 2008 . by TexasFred
I don’t carry a gun…

… to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don’t carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m paranoid. I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m evil. I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don’t carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m angry. I carry a gun so that I don’t have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don’t carry a gun because my sex organs are too small. I carry a gun because I want to continue to use those sex organs for the purpose for which they were intended for a good long time to come.

I don’t carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m a cowboy. I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don’t carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don’t carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don’t carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

Stolen from, and linked back to my buddy Syd at “I don’t carry a gun…”.

Pizza man delivers shot to armed robbers

Pizza man delivers shot to armed robbers

A pizza delivery man found himself forced to use his concealed gun to protect himself Tuesday night when two men allegedly attempted to rob him at gunpoint in the 100 block of Booker Street, according to a report from Lt. David Young, Lufkin Police Department spokesman.

Police arrested Johnx R. Greer, 18, at 1:16 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of aggravated robbery in the incident. Police are still investigating the identity of the other suspect.

The delivery man, who has a license to carry a handgun, told police he walked up to the door of the house and rang the doorbell, but the house was vacant. The two men came from behind the side of the house, pointing handguns at him and demanded his cell phone and money while he was delivering a pizza to a house at 9:05 p.m. Tuesday, according to the report. The delivery man drew a .22 caliber Derringer and fired two shots at Greer.

Greer and the other man fled on foot, according to the report. The delivery man was not injured, but Greer was arrested after being treated at a local hospital for a gunshot wound to the back. Greer is currently being held at the Angelina County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Pizza man delivers shot to armed robbers

I just LOVE a FEEL GOOD story, and this is one of them, in almost every respect.

The negative side you ask?? Why, it’s almost a certainty that Papa John’s will fire the guy. I don’t have ANY solid information on that, it IS speculation on MY part, but I would be totally surprised if they didn’t!

I had a friend that was going to school, working on his Masters in Education while holding down a full time teaching job and pulling a 10P - 6A shift at a local convenience store that shall remain unnamed because I have never spent a penny in one since, I can live without a *Big Gulp*… Uh, Ooops…

Anyway, my friend was getting robbed, an armed robber, he bent over like he was going to open the safe and the robber was briefly distracted, my friend came up with his .357 and punched this SOB’s ticket for him.

The police are happy, one less asshole on the street, my buddy is happy, he didn’t get robbed and lived to tell a good story but the corporate headquarters was seriously pissed off, they fired him. It seems they had this corporate policy about *giving in* to robbers and carrying a weapon was completely OUT of the equation.

My buddy lost his 2nd job, had no trouble getting a new one, he was a local hero of sorts, went on to get his Masters and is still a wonderful guy and a great Conservative educator.

This pizza guy will get a new job if he gets fired, but IF Papa John’s doesn’t fire him, I’ll eat Papa John’s pizza exclusively from now on!!

EDIT TO ADD: Info regarding this being a delivery person for Papa John’s Pizza is HERE, the link had rolled off the front page and I had to dig a bit!!

EDIT TO ADD: Lufkin Police have arrested a second man in connection to the attempted robbery of a pizza delivery man Tuesday evening.

Long lines form as early voting begins in Florida

Long lines form as early voting begins in Florida

MIAMI (AP) - Florida kicked off early voting on Monday, with record crowds heading to the polls and voters waiting hours to cast their ballots. Elections officials said the few reported problems were minor.

Final statewide numbers for ballots cast Monday won’t be available until Tuesday, but counties large and small, traditionally Democrat and traditionally Republican, were reporting record turnout. The early voting sites will remain open two weeks until the weekend before Election Day.

“Lines are a sign of a healthy democracy, and certainly our democracy is healthy today,” said Secretary of State Kurt Browning.

The Sunshine State is again key this election season, with a prize of 27 electoral votes - 10 percent of the 270 needed to clinch the election. The state’s disputed election in 2000 gave the presidency to George W. Bush, and he captured the state in 2004. This year, Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama are locked in a close race.

Long lines form as early voting begins in Florida

Today we began early voting here in Texas as well, the deed is done, Wicked Step Mother and I are BOTH now officially racists, neither one of us voted for Barack HUSSEIN Obama.

The voting facility we went to was well staffed and well supplied, there were plenty of election officials and plenty of electronic voting machines, Texas doesn’t DO hanging chads. ALL machines were in use but things were running very smoothly, there was little or no wait and the elections folks said they had been serving a full house all day long, it was 1:30PM our time when we went and all in all, it was simple, quick and easy.

Wicked Step Mother and I voted almost identically, our politics are that close, we both voted a lot of Republican, a couple of Democrats and a couple of Libertarians, we voted for the people we both best felt could serve us, our community, the state of Texas and the USA.

One thing that really tends to piss me off though is the vote in Spanish option that Texas offers.

I suppose that’s an option on ballots on most, if not all states, but I have serious issues with it. IF you live in this nation, IF you are a citizen and IF you’re going to vote in an election, it should be done in English. That is, after all, the language of this nation.

Can you imagine going to Mexico, or, to be fair all around, Quebec for that matter, and can you imagine what their level of willingness would be to accommodate YOU with news, help, instructions or anything else printed in YOUR native language? If you don’t speak French or Spanish, you are up a creek with a busted paddle.

Why do WE, as a nation, have to give in to the laziness of those that refuse to speak, read or write the English language but want to be considered Americans?

And for what it’s worth, we spent the rest of the day shopping for *Fred Toys*, mostly ammo, we were in a police supply that I frequent, I get good prices on things there, anyway, regarding speaking English, 2 Chinese guys came into the store wanting to buy some high powered pistol ammo, at least that was the gist of it that any of us could figure out. They were NOT police officers, Sheriffs Deputies, State Officers/DPS or Federal agents. They had NO official credentials of any kind. They didn’t get ANY ammo either.

My favorite police supply house is racist too!!

Police: Lakewood homeowner fatally shoots intruder

Police: Lakewood homeowner fatally shoots intruder

A homeowner fatally shot a man who broke into his home near the Lakewood Country Club this morning, Dallas police said.

The shooting took place at about 2 a.m. in the 6100 block of Tremont Street, said Dallas police Lt. Herbert Ashford.

A homeowner called police to report that someone had broken into his house, and that the intruder was lying on the porch after he had been shot, Lt. Ashford said.

The Dallas County medical examiner’s office said Gary Williams, 21, of Dallas died at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas this morning. An autopsy was pending.

Lt. Ashford declined to release the homeowner’s name. Police were continuing their investigation.

Neighbor Carol Grissom said she did not hear any shot fired, but woke up to the sound of sirens. She said she didn’t know the homeowner very well, but that this was the first time such an incident has happened in their neighborhood.

“We’ve been very lucky to not have any types of incidents prior to this,” she said.

Queue the music: Another one bites the dust!!

And this illustrates, very well, the reason I keep an XD-45 Tactical very close at hand, fully loaded, with 230gr Golden Saber hollow points.

It also ties in perfectly well with the FBI report that was released yesterday, Justifiable Homicides at Highest in More than a Decade, FBI Says

Americans are hurting financially, and there is a wave of self defense and self preservation that is spreading through the USA like never before, we can’t just sit back and allow the dregs of humanity to rob us blind, and all I can say is, it’s about time!

Justifiable Homicides at Highest in More than a Decade, FBI Says

Justifiable Homicides at Highest in More than a Decade, FBI Says

WASHINGTON — The number of justifiable homicides committed by police and private citizens has been rising in the past two years to their highest levels in more than a decade, reflecting a shoot-first philosophy in dealing with crime, say law enforcement analysts.

The 391 killings by police that were ruled justifiable in 2007 were the most since 1994, FBI statistics show. The 254 killings by private individuals found to be self-defense were the most since 1997.

The FBI says a homicide committed by a private citizen is justified when a person is slain during the commission of a felony, such as a burglary or robbery. Police are justified, the FBI says, when felons are killed while the officer is acting in the line of duty. Rulings on these deaths are usually made by the local police agencies involved.

Some law enforcement analysts say the numbers represent changing attitudes on the streets, where police have felt more threatened by well-armed offenders, and citizens have taken greater responsibility for their own safety.

James Alan Fox, a criminal justice professor at Northeastern University in Boston, describes an emerging “shoot-first” mentality by police and private citizens. For several years, police departments have armed their officers with higher-powered weapons to keep pace with criminal gangs. “Clearly there is a message out there that citizens may be able to defend themselves” as well, he says.

Alfred Blumstein, a Carnegie Mellon University criminologist, says the gun “legalization movement” also may have helped create a “greater willingness” among citizens to act in self-defense.

I saw this story posted at Bloviating Zeppelin and Traction Control.

Both are great bloggers, BZ is a lifetime law enforcement guy and Traction Control is a hell of a gun guy, I have had the opportunity to actually meet him face to face, a finer guy, and FAMILY you’ll never meet, I hope we have a chance to go take a few targets down soon…

This is a great story, there are reasons the justifiable homicides are up too, people are pissed off, madder than hell and not taking it any more. Here in Texas we never took too much to begin with, what with being the bog dwelling rednecks that cling to guns and bibles that we are, but now the rest of the nation is coming around too, and all I can say is, it’s about time.

Never allow yourself to become a WILLING victim, protect yourself, your home and your family. Teach your wife and children how to use guns, properly and proficiently. And as a side note, always be sure and tell the wife you’re coming home early or late, as the case may be, you don’t want to be her *justifiable*…
