POINT MARION, Pa. (AP) — An 85-year-old woman boldly went for her gun and busted a would-be burglar inside her home, then forced him to call police while she kept him in her sights, police said.
“I just walked right on past him to the bedroom and got my gun,” Leda Smith said.
Smith heard someone break into her home Monday afternoon and grabbed the .22-caliber revolver she had been keeping by her bed since a neighbor’s home was burglarized a few weeks ago.
“I said ‘What are you doing in my house?’ He just kept saying he didn’t do it,” Smith said.
After the 17-year-old boy called 911, Smith kept holding the gun on him until state police arrived at her home in Springhill Township, about 45 miles south of Pittsburgh.

And this is the exact reason the American homeowner should be armed. When a 85 year old woman has more guts than many so-called men, well, go get em Granny, ya done good!
Recently we’ve had a string of home burglary attempts here in MY little corner of Texas. Daylight home invasions. And in ALL 5 incidents the residents have been home when these little thugs struck. And in all 5 instances there has been a reasonably good I.D. made of the burglars.
Now here’s the one thing that just torques me to no end. We have the The Castle Doctrine here in Texas, and thank God we do. Many of you also are aware of the case of Joe Horn and the shooting in Pasadena, TX and this: Joe Horn cleared by grand jury in Pasadena shootings
Now personally, I think the Castle Doctrine was used to push the envelope a bit on this one, but a clear precedent was set, in Texas, the homeowner is King of the Castle. King, that is, if he’s a gun owner and not afraid to actually USE a gun in defense of his home and family.
OK, back to the burglaries here in my little corner of Texas, 5 so far, good descriptions, a really good Police Department all over this thing, sounds good so far. Except for one little thing. The bad guys are still breathing free Texas air.
One of these daytime home invasions took place 4 or 5 houses down from me, on the opposite side of the street, the guy was home, he locked himself in an upstairs bedroom and called the police. When the burglars heard him slam the bedroom door, they fled, and in many ways, that’s a good thing I suppose, if the guy was unarmed and/or untrained, but the bad guys are still out there, on our streets, presenting a clear and present danger to all the decent homeowners in my little corner of Texas.
In all 5 cases the description was the same, height, weight, race, hair, vehicle, all of it. These little hoodlums are going to kick in the wrong door and some well armed and well trained retired military or law enforcement guy, a gun nut that loves to shoot, some of our survivalists types or just one of our all around wonderful CHL holding neighbors is going to punch their ticket and send their asses to hell. I wonder what kind of *racists* we’ll be when that happens.
Oh, I didn’t mention it?? Yeah, both are black. I didn’t want to be accused of *racism* or racial profiling by using that as a part of the description.
