Suspicions Remain After Iraq Conference

SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt (AP) - Iraq emerged from a vital conference Friday with a promise from Arab countries to stop foreign militants from joining Iraq’s insurgency. But Baghdad didn’t get the debt relief it wanted, and its Sunni Arab neighbors demand Iraq’s Shiite-led government enact tough political reforms.

So much for that democracy thing Mr. Bush has been holding out like a carrot, it’s NOT going to happen, not now, not ever, and all we’re doing now is spinning our wheels…

Baghdad also did not achieve another goal - progress in easing tensions between the United States and Iran, whose disputes Iraqis say are fueling the chaos in their country. Despite urging from the Iraqis, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki did not hold talks - only exchanged wary pleasantries over lunch.

Maybe we don’t want to ease tensions, maybe we really DO have a mission and an agenda in Iraq, to use it as a staging area for the bombers that will blast Iran and Syria, just sayin’…

“Everyone has an agenda, and it has damaged the situation in Iraq,” al-Maliki said of differences among the U.S., Iran and Syria. “We had hoped for a dialogue. Squabble anywhere else in the world, but not on Iraqi soil.”

See?? Even al-Malaki has caught on too, Iraq is going to be a staging area, just as soon as we get done surging the bad guys out…

Al-Maliki’s government has long pressed its neighbors to do more to stop fighters from infiltrating from their territory, and the Shiites who dominate his coalition accuse Arab countries of being biased toward Iraq’s Sunni Arab minority.

Arab governments, in turn, blame Shiite discrimination against Sunnis for fueling the insurgency and fear Shiite power will boost the power of mainly Shiite Iran in the region. They demand al-Maliki enact reforms to give Sunni Arabs a greater role - including amending the constitution, bringing more Sunnis into the military and government and ending the purge of former members of Saddam Hussein’s ousted Sunni-led Baath party.

And this is what it all boils down to, Arab vs Persian, Sunni vs Shiite and the USA caught in the middle of a civil war, and that’s a place we do NOT need to be…

Yes, I know that Iran, Syria and very likely Saudi Arabia are sponsoring global terror, but here is the deal, what we’re doing in Iraq is NOT going to stop it, ever, and the only real chance that we have is to secure THIS nation, and let the Arabs kill each other as much as they want, and if their threat level rises to a point where they can threaten the USA, drop the bomb on their worthless asses, plain and simple…

Look, these people have been killing each other since time began, we’re not going to stop that and we’re not going to instill a sense of American democracy or freedom on them, they are Muslims and they will remain Muslims and until such time as ALL of them are dead, or ALL of Christianity and Judaism is dead, there will NEVER be peace, what we are engaged in is a modern day version of The Crusades, and the outcome will be no different this time around…

What part of that is so hard for George Bush to grasp?? I know he’s not a well read individual, I know he’s not well spoken and gives the impression of not being too bright, and I know he’s not a historian, but he has people on his staff that are all these things and they should be advising him, is he totally ignoring them as too??

Apparently so, the mission in Iraq is undefined and non-existent, the troops will keep on fighting, they will do whatever they are ordered to do, and for that I commend them, but what are they really fighting for?? Iraqi Freedom??

What freedom?? Iraqs neighbors have already pretty much made their decision about what Iraq is to become, and it doesn’t even remotely resemble the pipe dream of an impertinent child that only wanted to impress his Daddy…

Well if Iraq is a staging area for an Iran war, the surge is really short on manpower. But given this presidents track record who knows…

Iraq will never be a democracy, at best it will be a monarchy in anarchy….like before.

Syria and Iran can do what ever they want right now, Israel is neutered and America is tied to a boat anchor in Iraq. I am surprised Iran hasn’t used this situation for more than it has.
