The North Texas Gun Owners meeting was a SUCCESS!

December 6th, 2008 . by TexasFred

Ladies and Gents, our North Texas Gun Owners meet and greet was a great time had by ALL. We met some of the finest people in North Texas. Some are bloggers, some are business people, some are elected officials and some are folks that ran for office and put up a hell of a fight, but the District they were looking to represent is overwhelmingly LIBERAL. A valiant effort Fred, but a snowball in hell, if you get the drift!

I got to meet some of the folks I talk to on Yahoo messenger, some of the folks that comment on my blog, some that I comment on their blogs, and one man that I met online that has a great forum, The Conservative Cave, I highly recommend Thor to you, his Forum is pretty lively.

There was an NRA organizer in attendance, he was signing folks up right and left I am guessing, we were visiting and yakking so much, I am only guessing, but he looked very busy.

To Ken, Tom, Rob, Mark, Fred W., Larry, Phil, et al, this was a great day. We were blessed with great weather, really nice, no wind, comfortable temps and I have to say, these meet and greets need to happen a lot more often! To anyone I missed, it wasn’t intentional, I am old, the memory is NOT what it once was and there was no slight intended.

I have something very serious to say now, to J.R. of A Keyboard and a .45, some of you may remember a couple of weeks ago, J.R. and I had a very serious disagreement concerning the 8 year old boy that was killed in Massachusetts, shot with the UZI at the gun show.

J.R and I have had many great gun discussions in the past and have always seen eye to eye on pretty much everything and I am thinking that the *passion* of the moment may have been what caused us to have our disagreement over this recent tragedy.

Today J.R. and I got to meet, face to face and we had a chance to actually discuss the matter and I have got to say, J.R. is a gentleman beyond compare. We BOTH agreed that we had honestly misunderstood each others intent and that the matter had escalated WAY beyond where it should have, and it truly was a misunderstanding on BOTH of our parts.

J.R. and I talked, we worked out our differences, amicably, and we shook hands, more than once. It is my hope that this is ALL behind us and we can now become great friends, as MEN should do.

I am a BIG guy, but I am NEVER too big to admit that I was wrong, made a mistake or that I misunderstood something. J.R. is that much of a MAN too, and that is a trait I greatly admire. J.R., it is MY pleasure to have met you Sir, the better half and I both thought very well of you. I hope that we can do some great things together in the near future.

Folks, we are in the process of looking into the formation of a North Texas Gun Owners Association, possibly named Texas Gun Owners Assoc., that has not yet been fully vetted but I will keep everyone up on it as time passes.

Ken Emanuelson has already started a Facebook group here: North Texas Gun Owners. If you’re a blogger or on Facebook, please give it a look and join the group. This will be the basis for the Association I am thinking, but as I said, Ken, Thor and myself will be working out the details in the coming weeks!

A HUGE thanks to Ken and crew for putting this shindig on, and a big tip of the Stetson, the one I really DO wear, to ALL concerned, this was one of the most enjoyable days I have had in quite a while!

And also, let me add a HUGE THANK YOU to Mr. Tom, the owner of Target Master, he allowed us to take up space in his parking lot and time in his store as well!!

    Hey Fred;

I am glad that we were able to meet and get our problems resolved.

It was a good time. Great weather, good people, hot dogs and guns. What was the final result of your “what do you carry?” poll?

JR, it was a good spread of XD’s, SIGs and Kimbers, one .357 S&W, a Glock, and after that it REALLY went downhill from there!! :P

    Me?? I have a .22 Derringer and a Case pocket knife… :D

Fred, if you can somehow manage to keep Texas Right, then this nation may have a semblance of a chance.

When someone at the meet and greet said the word “spread,” that had double meanings, didn’t it?

I’m glad it was a success Fred. I gave myself an early gift last week and joined the NRA. Glad that I did.

Like any major city in the US, St. Louis is bad, real bad.

Fred, it was nice meeting you, your wife and all of the others. I never said what I carried in your “poll”. When I had a valid permit to carry, I would carry my H&K USP compact in .40 S&W….. :D

We’re doing all we can here John, it’s a hard fight sometimes, there are more libbers in Dallas County than Repubs and Conservatives…

The biggest part of Texas is NO problem but Dallas County is SO bad, they re-elected the carpet munching libber lezzie Sheriff… Pretty damned sad, she IS very anti guns…

Maybe you need to organize you a SC Gun Owners Association.. It can’t hurt… :)

Sounds like a GREAT day…I got to shoot today too! We must have fired off 500 rounds out of our staple GUN hanging Christmas lights :) We live in a neighborhood now that has an annual parade of lights so we HAD to indulge LARGE :)

All kidding aside…check out this latest post I got from Newsmax. Obama ASKED all potential appointees to his cabinet about their guns…and I quote…

“The National Rifle Association has denounced the Barack Obama transition team’s questionnaire asking potential appointees about their own gun ownership.

The 63-question personnel form includes this query: “Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage.”

Paul Light, professor of public service at New York University, told Politico.com that there was no such question for potential appointees when George W. Bush took office in 2000.

“It kind of sticks out there like a sore thumb,” he said.

Light hypothesized that the Obama camp might want to avoid the spectacle of a Cabinet-level or other high-ranking appointee who is found to have an unregistered handgun.

But the NRA, which spent millions in an attempt to defeat Obama, is crying foul over the question.

“Barack Obama and his administration are showing their true colors and true philosophy with regard to the Second Amendment,” said Chris Cox, the NRA’s top political official.

“It shows what we’ve been saying all along — this guy doesn’t view the Second Amendment as a fundamental constitutional right.”

Republican Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina also denounced the question.

“It’s very odd and very concerning to put out a question like that,” he said.

DeMint’s campaign organization sent an e-mail to supporters vowing to endorse legislation that bars federal hiring discrimination on the basis of gun ownership.

The question put to potential appointees is just the latest Obama move to irk opponents of gun control, NewsBusters contributing editor Tom Blumer pointed out.

Among other things, Obama has voted to allow lawsuits designed to bankrupt firearms firms, voted to ban almost all rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sport shooting, endorsed a complete ban on handgun ownership, voted to uphold local gun bans and the criminal prosecution of people who use firearms in self-defense, and supported a proposal to ban gun stores within five miles of a school or park.”

    It’s starting folks…
