Tea party godfather Ron Paul running for president

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Texas Rep. Ron Paul announced Friday that he will run for the GOP nomination for president in 2012, the third attempt for the man known on Capitol Hill as “Dr. No” for his enthusiasm for bashing runaway spending and government overreach.

“Time has come around to the point where the people are agreeing with much of what I’ve been saying for 30 years. So, I think the time is right,” said the 75-year-old Paul, who first ran for president as a Libertarian in 1988.

Paul made his announcement in an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America” from New Hampshire, where he planned his first event for his presidential campaign on Friday.

Three years ago, the former flight surgeon and outspoken critic of the Federal Reserve became an Internet sensation – and a prodigious fundraiser- when he made a spirited but doomed bid for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination.

The godfather of the TEA Party? Seriously?

Well, I guess that explains a lot, for me at least. I don’t know what goes on in TEA Party groups across America, they are, after all, a loose confederation of very independent grass roots activists, and for the most part, a rather disorganized bunch as well.

I do know this, in our local TEA Party I see a very strong strain of Ron Paul influence running through what’s left of it. The Libertarian influenced moonbattery, and to a certain degree, an anarchist tilt, is abundantly obvious.

That level of moonbattery is also an obvious, and well known trait of Ron Paul supporters, aka: The Paultards, Paulies, Paulinistas and a few other names that won’t be seen on my front page.

First elected to Congress in 1976, he is known for holding unconventional views while keeping a smile on his face, espousing a sort of modern Republican populism.

Don’t misunderstand me, Ron Paul isn’t totally useless. If Ron Paul is the speaker, and the topic is money, and if you can keep Ron Paul ON TOPIC, he is a well spoken and intelligent individual. Sadly, Ron Paul won’t talk about finance and money exclusively, he tends to wander off into the realm of world affairs, and there is where Ron Paul hits a foul ball.

“The secret to his success is his authenticity,” said Democratic consultant Jeff Crosby, who grew up in Paul’s district. “He’s an authentic nut.”

I have told many readers before, I am not a Dem or a Republican, I’m an independent, and on occasion I happen to agree with the Democrats on an issue or 2. This is one of those times. Ron Paul is indeed an authentic nut.

I have pointed out in the past, as recently as last month, Ron Paul is well known for his association with Don Black, an American white nationalist. Black is the founder, and current webmaster of the Stormfront internet forum. He was a Grand Wizard in the Ku Klux Klan and a member of the American Nazi Party in the 1970s. That was pointed out in this post. Paul Announces Exploratory Committee and Iowa Team

Organizer and Paul campaign volunteer Elizabeth Day remembers that supporters wore period dress and rolled fake barrels of tea into the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

“When people come to believe in Ron Paul, there is a passion that burns within us,” said Day, a 57-year-old oil company revenue analyst. “To me, Ron Paul is the tea party.”

To Elizabeth Day: kissing Ron Paul’s ass qualifies as unprotected sex doesn’t it? The burn that you’re feeling, maybe Dr. Paul can give you some antibiotics and clear that right up for you.

This is the Barking Moonbat award I give to ALL Paultards, but Elizabeth Day deserves this one exclusively, she used Ron Paul and burns in a descriptive sentence!

Ron Paul doesn’t do anything for me. Can’t see him going anywhere but back to Congress.

MM26 — Given the district, and the people he represents, probably so…

  3. BobF says:

Now we’re going to have his followers trolling every conservative blog and push their chosen one. I wonder what their excuse is for their leaders association with a member of the KKK and Nazi Party?

  4. Bloviating Zeppelin says:

    Uh, no. Not Ron Paul.

    Next.
