Good News from TexasFred’s

May 11th, 2008 . by TexasFred

The blog has been updated to WordPress 2.5.1 and I am now on a new template as well, the sidebar is basically the same but the body of the blog and the header are a lot different.

The one really great thing is the comments section, when you post a comment you only have to fill your information in once, it retains and remembers you, and you get a decent sized text box in which to post.

The other great thing is the addition of a new function that allows you to add images to your comment by clicking the link, several have asked how I added images and until now, on the old template and platform, it was only something that Admin could do, well, now you all can.

I guess ALL new systems have to have a ’shakedown’ cruise before going into battle.

Thanks for the support, the comments, the story ideas and links to TexasFred’s, I really appreciate ALL of you folks and if you’re a Mom, a belated Happy Mothers day, we’ve been very busy today trying to get all the ‘bugs’ out of the new template and data base, and for that I can only thank my great friend Rob at American & Proud, thank you Rob, you’re a great friend and business partner.

If any of you were here yesterday when we were doing the 1st install and were testing all the new goodies, you know that comments got a 500 Error when you tried to post, it was a data base error and had nothing to do with you or your system, it was in the new template, that too is gone.

Sincerely, Fred

Fred, I love the new site, and especially the new banner. Reminds me of the big outdoors of Texas.

Good job on the new look, Fred. I hope WordPress agrees with you. I’ve been using it since day 1 on my blog because that’s the only one my wife could make sense from. She surprised me with it several years ago as a birthday present. I would change templates myself but every one that I’ve come across won’t accept transfer of the stuff on my current blog (my current “Notebook” template). And I don’t know the coding well enough to tweak things to make them work. The WP sites don’t help much so I just keep things “as is.”

Look forward to continue reading your blog.

    nice new site.

yeah the new version of wordpress is much better, I should have upgraded as soon as it came out, then my site wouldn’t have gotten hacked like it did.

Joe, I hate to burst your bubble but yeah, it could have…

You’ve just been lucky since the upgrade, and ya haven’t pissed off the right well educated computer geek that has some serious skills…

And the only reason I am saying this is because I don’t want anyone operating under the misconception that a simple upgrade can stop their computer or site from being hacked, because it can’t…

I really like the template. It is way past time for me to upgrade. I’ll run a beta of this and see how I like it.

Did this template have the option to do 3 columns?

The site is looking good, the comment section is NOW much better. I was really tired of having to input my data in places I knew should remember me…sigh
That was the most frustrating part of this whole upgrade/template thing.
I hosed my whole site trying to figure it. Then the hosting service hosed it for me again…..

Now I think we can progress without any more hiccups.

There are some more cool tools coming stay tuned….

Good work on the template code Fred.

Takes a lot of guts to risk it all and make a major change like this. Your a strong man.

I look forward to coming here everyday.
