Cain struggles to contain allegations fallout

WASHINGTON (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain denied on Tuesday that he’s changing his story as he struggles to contain the fallout from sexual harassment allegations that could threaten his recently surging campaign.

The White House contenders contradictory explanations over two days have raised questions about details of the allegations from back in the 1990s and about his current ability to manage a crisis in the national spotlight. The controversy, relating to his time as head of the National Restaurant Association, has surfaced just as he’s risen in national polls in the GOP nomination fight two months before the leadoff Iowa caucuses.

A lawyer for one woman who complained about Cain’s behavior told The Washington Post on Tuesday she wants to talk publicly about it. According to that report, Joel P. Bennett, a Washington lawyer who specializes in employment cases, said he asked the National Restaurant Association to waive his client’s confidentiality so she can respond to Cain’s claims that the complaints were “totally baseless and totally false.”

Bennett did not immediately return messages seeking comment from The Associated Press.

Cain struggles to contain allegations fallout

Lets call a spade a spade; Herman Cain is a damned liar and there’s no two ways about it!

Herman Cain has changed his *story* several times over the last 48 or so hours, I have watched and I have listened and I know what I see and hear. I know body language.

Herman Cain is a LIAR!

Herman Cain has claimed that he is remembering more as time goes by, well, somehow, I just don’t see ANY man that has a problem remembering that he was accused of sexual harassment, or that there was a pay-off made along with confidentiality agreements.

Herman Cain is a LIAR!

In Sunday night’s original report by Politico, at least two women who had complained about Cain were said to have agreed to settlements that included stipulations that they not repeat their allegations in public.

Now these women are wanting to come forward, and again I say, Herman Cain is a LIAR!

I have had several people tell me that they too have been involved in sexual harassment suits, and of course they claim that they were unfounded charges. Be that as it may; all of those that have lambasted me over taking up the mantle AGAINST Cain have said the same thing, “Fred, don’t think the *pay-off* makes him guilty, it just may have been a lot cheaper to PAY THEM OFF than it was to fight the charges…”

My response to that was, and still is, BULL SHIT!!

If a person is accused of something as damning as sexual harassment, for one thing, it’s not a thing that you *forget*, it’s not a charge that you just *pay-off* to sweep under the rug and make it go away, it will NEVER go away and will hound your life forever.

If you are innocent and if you are intent on protecting your *good name*, provided you do actually HAVE a *good name*, you will fight tooth and nail to defend yourself from false allegations. You name and reputation is NOT something you can pay to clean up!

Herman Cain IS a LIAR!

Cain’s evolving answers to questions in a host of media interviews this week led at least one rival campaign to suggest he’s not being upfront about the accusations.

“If you are the front-runner and you plan to be the nominee … be forthcoming so that you are vetted, and we don’t get into a situation where you’re our nominee and we find out things after the fact,” John Brabender, a strategist for Rick Santorum’s campaign, said at forum hosted by National Journal. “We’re still waiting for clarification from the Cain campaign.”

That’s how *most* people would do it, be 100% forthcoming, but, and I am just guessing, if these women are telling the truth, if they were paid off to keep quiet, and since it was quite a while back, sometime in the 1990′s, maybe Cain thought it would never surface.

But others took a pass. “I’ve been focused on policy. I don’t follow some of the things that you guys seem fascinated by,” former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said during an appearance in Iowa.

Look, Newt is a smart guy, and by keeping his mouth shut on Cain and his current issues is likely the best thing Newt can do. Newt has a bit of baggage he doesn’t want drug in the mud too!

And there was one indication the controversy might not hurt Cain’s support among the conservative Republicans who have been driving his bid: His fundraising surged on Monday. Mark Block, his chief of staff, said the campaign raised as much as $250,000 in a day, and Cain said it was one of his best fundraising days ever.

And once again we see credence to the old axiom about *A fool and his money*…

Over the past two days, Cain has admitted he knew of one agreement between the restaurant association and a woman who accused him of sexual harassment. He has said the woman initially asked for a large financial settlement but ultimately received two to three months’ pay as part of a separation agreement. Cain also acknowledged remembering one of the woman’s accusations against him, saying he stepped close to her to make a reference to her height, and told her she was the same height as his wife.

He has said he is not aware of agreements or settlements with any other women, though Politico - which first disclosed the allegations - reported that the trade group had given settlements to at least two female employees who accused him of inappropriate sexual behavior.

Beyond that, Cain has offered a series of sometimes-conflicting statements over what happened and didn’t happen, and what he knew about financial payouts.

By Tuesday, Cain was chalking up the confusion to semantics, saying he was aware of an “agreement” but not a “settlement.”

Semantics? Seriously?

Yes, Herman Cain HAS offered ‘a series of sometimes-conflicting statements over what happened and didn’t happen, and what he knew about financial payouts’ and I offer this, do you remember Bill Clinton? Do you remember the line about ‘It depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is’??

Read the full story, Cain is flip-flopping and making excuses as if he were John Kerry, and in MY not so humble opinion, we don’t need that in the White House.

We don’t need another pervert in the White House, we don’t need another LIAR in the White House, we don’t need another philanderer in the White House and we don’t need Herman Cain in the White House.

Herman Cain is a LIAR!

    I agree 100%.
It may take another week or so,,,,but the truth WILL come out!.

Fred, one of the things about this that I found most troubling, though I’ve kept my mouth (and my keyboard) shut about it for two days is that on the night it was released there was a throng of Cain supporters whom I’ve known for month to be Cain supporters who IMMEDIATELY began blaming the “Perry camp.” I guess they thought it worked for Bachmann to make those kinds of accusations, so maybe it would work for them.

Oh, wait. Maybe it did not work so well for Bachmann’s campaign after all. I think she’s been drinking the Gardasil.

    Keep your powder dry

  3. Steve Dennis says:

Cain had a two week notice that this story was coming and he failed to come up with a proper defense. It is hard to believe that he is just now beginning to remember about this in the two days since the story has broken considering that he had two weeks to start remembering before the story broke. There is no doubt that there is something here and his failure to get ahead of this story is proof that he is hiding something.

  4. Patrick Sperry says:

While I do like Cain to a degree this shows him in what might be called “crisis” mode. He fails, period…

That said; back in the day when all this damned political correctness started up there were two basic ways to get at anyone that was a male. Accuse them of sexual harassment, or, in public, ask them if they still beat their wife…

  5. minuteman26 says:

If Cain is proven to have lied on this, his run for the presidency is obviously toast. Was turned off by his stance on the 2nd Amendment to begin with.

To quote a small portion of the “rant” - “According to that report, Joel P. Bennett, a Washington lawyer who specializes in employment cases, said he asked the National Restaurant Association to waive his client’s confidentiality so she can respond to Cain’s claims that the complaints were “totally baseless and totally false.”
What is there in place that prevents the lady from just speaking out on her own? It’s still a free country isn’t it? .
Further, why doesn’t Cain just step up an admit the allegations and get it out in the open and bury it?
