US troops pull out of Afghan base after attack

July 16th, 2008 . by TexasFred

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - U.S. troops abandoned a remote outpost in eastern Afghanistan where militants killed nine American soldiers this week and insurgents briefly overran the area, officials said Wednesday, underlining the difficulties faced by forces in the border region.

Militants seized the village of Wanat in Nuristan province after driving out the handful of Afghan police left behind to defend government offices, Afghan officials said. Fifty more officers were deployed Wednesday and soon regained control, said Ghoolam Farouq, a senior provincial police official.

Sunday’s attack by some 200 militants armed with machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and mortars was the deadliest for the U.S. military in Afghanistan in three years. Rebels fought their way into the newly established base, wounding another 15 Americans and suffering heavy casualties of their own, before the defenders and warplanes could drive them back.

The assault highlighted how Islamic militants appear to be gaining strength nearly eight years after the ouster of the Taliban, and the difficulties facing foreign and Afghan forces trying to defeat them.

US troops pull out of Afghan base after attack

We didn’t stay the course, where the course really was, we traipsed off to Iraq and engaged in George and Dick’s Excellent Adventure. Now we get to go back to Afghanistan for a do over. Isn’t that special?

I get accused of being a lot of things lately, the really funny part is, if my accusers only knew the REAL story, they would likely run back to Mama’s basement and lock themselves in with a lifetime supply of Cheetos and petroleum jelly. :P

I get told that I am a violent person because of my beliefs on how to properly conduct a war. I get called a genocidal maniac because I believe that the only way to defeat radical Islam is to wipe out Islam itself. The whole thing is a contradiction in terms. The Religion of Peace and Submit or Die. Tell me there’s not something seriously wrong with that ideology!

Here’s how I would conduct the new campaign in Afghanistan if I were the Commander in Chief:

My field commanders would be given orders to establish *fire bases* all over the border region with Pakistan, and anywhere else deemed essential in our effort to re-establish control of the nation.

The Taliban would be given 1 warning, and 1 warning only, and YES, we DO know who and where their leaders are, but I digress, 1 warning, IF you attack ANY U.S. or NATO installation, the nearest village and Mosque will be leveled, with ALL the inhabitants of same in place.

If you wound or kill ANY U.S. or NATO troop, the nearest village and Mosque will be leveled, with ALL the inhabitants of same in place.

If any act of terror is committed by the Taliban, ie: IED’s and the like, the village and Mosque nearest the attack will be leveled, with ALL the inhabitants of same in place.

Make it so simple a child can understand, retaliation is a bitch, and we WILL meet any attack on our forces with a massive and deadly strike that will make REAL believers out of the Taliban.

That’s how it would happen if I were in charge. How long do you think the Taliban would have support if these were OUR tactics? And honestly, why go to war if you’re not going in to win, and to win in the most expedient manner possible

You’re right Fred. You can’t fight a war playing this p/c shit. Didn’t we bomb church’s and monasteries during WWII? Yes we did and no one gave it much thought. Now if you mention firing on a masque the hand wringers get all in a snit. Damn am I tired of this p/c shit!
