Obama: Iraq now needs a political solution

July 22nd, 2008 . by TexasFred

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Tuesday that security in Iraq has improved and that the United States urgently needs to turn its attention to Afghanistan.

“There is security progress, but now we need a political solution” in Iraq, Obama said in the first news conference of his highly publicized trip abroad. Afghanistan is now the “central front in the war against terrorism,” he added.

“The situation in Afghanistan is perilous and urgent,” he said. “We must act now to reverse a deteriorating situation.”

He reiterated his goal of withdrawing combat troops from Iraq within 16 months of becoming president. But he said he would consult with military commanders to determine how many troops to keep in the country to protect diplomatic and humanitarian operations, to train Iraqis and to conduct counterterrorism operations against al-Qaida in Iraq.

Obama: Iraq now needs a political solution

Either Barack Obama is becoming a bit more centrist in his views on the GWoT or he really is the most pathetic pandering politico we have ever seen.

Sen. Obama is speaking the words, we used to have an expression for this current news item, ‘You can talk the talk, can you walk the walk?‘, and I am not at all convinced that Obama can walk the walk, or will if elected to the presidency. I am still convinced that he is only saying whatever he and his handlers think it will take to convince people to vote for him.

And at this present time, Obama is saying pretty much what I have been saying, that Iraq isn’t the priority, Afghanistan and that particular region of the world are. But just because Obama happens to utter a few sentences that are in line with my beliefs doesn’t mean I will EVER support the guy.

Obama reminds me of a man I knew about 24 or 25 years ago, he wanted to get into the trucking business, he had never been IN the trucking business, but he wanted to try his hand at it.

He went to this local truck stop in his section of the Mississippi backwoods one night, a little hole in the road place, he ate dinner and talked to 2 or 3 drivers that were there having dinner as well.

Lo and behold, from that 1 visit, he became the most knowledgeable guy that ever walked concerning the trucking industry, all from 1 visit to a POS country truck stop and having visited with a few log haulers that had the fenders falling off of their trucks.

That’s about the best equation I can think of for Barack Hussein Obama and his trip to Iraq and Afghanistan, he’s made one trip, talked to a few people and now he’s qualified to lead the most powerful nation on earth and be the commander in chief of it’s military.

Obama is either the most brilliant politician of our time, and the most adept *quick study* the world has ever seen, OR, he is a liar and a fraud of Biblical proportions.

“…In January 2007, when General David Petraeus took command in Iraq, he called the situation “hard” but not “hopeless.” Today, 18 months later, violence has fallen by up to 80% to the lowest levels in four years, and Sunni and Shiite terrorists are reeling from a string of defeats. The situation now is full of hope, but considerable hard work remains to consolidate our fragile gains…

…Senator Barack Obama was an equally vocal opponent. “I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there,” he said on January 10, 2007. “In fact, I think it will do the reverse.”

…Now Senator Obama has been forced to acknowledge that “our troops have performed brilliantly in lowering the level of violence.” But he still denies that any political progress has resulted…”

These quotes are from the recently ‘banned’ OpEd by Senator McCain who pegged Obama’s position.

Obama is correct in his assessment of Afghanistan, and as we continue to stand down in Iraq, we need to stand up in Kabul. He is however a fraud; a liar; a politician who has no grip on foreign affairs. As bad as his domestic policies are, his foreign policies will surely find us smack dab in the middle of another war, but not before he decimates our military like Carter did. Then we’ll be screwed big time.

Well documented and proven ex-cocaine addicts like Obama should not be eligible to run for the office of the presidency being first and foremost the fact they are a negative example to all who research and learn about him, and secondly, he once again proves he cooked his brain in his youth with drugs and his ignorance is being put forth before the public to become aware of these faults and the extreme bad judgment he still shows to have to this day along with his faulty character through having close felons as friends.

the fact of Obama’s popularity spooks me, HE’s dumb as a box of rocks, what does that say of his supporters? who the hell thinks THIS shit-for-brains would be an improvement over the current Pres? and why?

hell, maybe I just think too much….

You posit a good parallel, but I wonder which group would rank #1 in the field as bullshit artists, politicians or truck drivers?

the change in his position is probably 80% pandering, 20% reality check, the reality being we can’t just pull out of that mess all at once, and dumb as he is, he knows it (or his handlers do).

This guy is a real piece of work! If Borat Insane Osama gets in, we are a bunch of dead men! This guy can’t think at all with his fully cooked brain…or did he really have a brain when he used cocaine? The moonbat guano isn’t helping him either…he’s “barryed” up above his head with it!

    Mark, I really think you’re being generous with the 80% / 20% remark; I think it’s 95% / 5%, guy!

Texas Fred, I’m being as polite as possible…that moonbat of a politician is almost as bad as Jimbo the peanut head back in the 70s.

I served in the decimated military during Carter’s administration and know first hand the results of that mind set., If elected, I fear this non-white candidate will screw it up even worse.

Well Fred, I won’t hold back now (Har Har!). I also read your rodeo post, so I’ll incorporate the two for this one. First, we need a bunch of bats for Barry and his Unkle Jerry to round up. Next, we need 2 donkeys for Barry and “Unkle Jerry” to ride, rather than horses. Then, see Barry and Jerry stick their heads up the donkeys behinds, when they panic from seeing all those bats flying around! Then the donkeys will run around, dragging the two behind them. Now, there’s a real sight for everyone to see: 2 moonbat rodeo clowns in the most embarrassing situation they could ever be in! Then they can have 1 pass each to complain that life stinks!

I’m voting for liar and fraud, also.

And, Mark, being a former truck driver, and still having friends who drive trucks, I take offense at being lumped in with lying, cheating, pandering crooks-in-suits. At least when a trucker lies, you can tell - he’ll start it out with “You ain’t gonna believe this, but … ”

Come to think of it, you can tell real easy when Politicians lie, too. Just watch their mouths. When their lips are moving, there’s a 99.9% chance it’s a lie.

I’ll take option 3 for a thousand Alex…..Unfortunately Fred, the sick will buy anything that sounds good, how do you think Snake oil became so popular.

  15. comment number 15 by: Mark Krauss

Cary, you could say I speak from experience, and since you say “former” I’d say I could be more offended than you if I wanted to ignore facts. fact is, that perhaps a majority of drivers could give a politician a run for his money where bullshit is concerned, of course a lot of truck driver bullshit is all in fun, I don’t think the same is the case for politicians, they actually want you to believe it.

“Talk the talk”? Crap, he can’t even do that without note cards that someone else wrote for him. “ummm….uh…..er…..” What a total piece of work!
