2 US troops shot in Kabul; NATO pulls workers

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - A gunman killed two American military advisers with shots to the back of the head Saturday inside a heavily guarded ministry building, and NATO ordered military workers out of Afghan ministries as protests raged for a fifth day over the burning of copies of the Quran at a U.S. army base.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the Interior Ministry attack, saying it was retaliation for the Quran burnings, after the U.S. servicemen - a lieutenant colonel and a major - were found dead on the floor of an office that only people who know a numerical combination can get into, Afghan and Western officials said.

The top commander of U.S. and NATO forces recalled all international military personnel from the ministries, an unprecedented action in the decade-long war that highlights the growing friction between Afghans and their foreign partners at a critical juncture in the war.

The U.S.-led coalition is trying to mentor and strengthen Afghan security forces so they can lead the fight against the Taliban and foreign troops can go home. That mission, however, requires a measure of trust at a time when anti-Western sentiment is at an all-time high.

These officers were found dead on the floor of an office that only people who know a numerical combination can get into?

Perhaps someone needs to reevaluate the security procedures that go into giving out that door lock combination, but on the other hand, that access, if it truly was a controlled access, should narrow down the list of suspects.

Afghan Defense Minister Gen. Abdul Rahim Wardak called U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta to apologize for the shooting and offer his condolences, Pentagon press secretary George Little said in a statement released in Washington.

An apology? From the Afghan Defense Minister? Shouldn’t the MURDER of 2 U.S. Officers garner an apology from the President of Afghanistan?

Oh, wait … OUR President is the apologizer.

“This act is unacceptable and the United States condemns it in the strongest possible terms,” Little said.

Condemnation? That’s it? That’s all you’ve got?

And I heard that Sarah Palin is demanding an apology over these killings, by God DEMANDING an apology.

Well, I’m sure that has the Afghan and Taliban people quaking in their boots.

U.S. officials said they were searching for the assailant, who has not been identified by name or nationality.

The two American service members were found by another foreigner who went into the room, according to the Afghan official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to disclose details about the shootings. They were shot in the back of the head, according to Western officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to disclose the information. Authorities were poring over security camera video for clues, the Afghan official said.

The assailant hasn’t been found, hasn’t been named and NO nationality can be placed upon him. AND … everyone in this story is speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to disclose the information.

Well, apparently, the Taliban is under no constraint to speak anonymously.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid identified the shooter as one of their sympathizers, Abdul Rahman. He said an accomplice inside the ministry helped Rahman get inside the compound to kill the Americans in retaliation for the Quran burnings.

“After the attack, Rahman informed us by telephone that he was able to kill four high-ranking American advisers,” Mujahid said. The Taliban often inflate death tolls and sometimes claim responsibility for killings they did not conduct.

It would appear that the Taliban doesn’t have the correct number of dead Americans, or, maybe they do and U.S. sources haven’t let the cat out of the bag yet.

I hate to say that, and I hope it’s not true, but with the current administration of one Barack Hussein Obama, with the ineptitude and open disdain for American troops that he and his regime have shown, with the rapidly growing list of lies and crimes the Obama administration has on their plate at this time, nothing, and I do mean NOTHING would surprise me now.

There is quite a bit more from AP on this story, I have covered the most important part, at least in MY estimation.

Apologies will NOT get the job done. Americans are being killed because a stinking BOOK was burned, it just happened to be a Quran, and our POTUS apologized and begged forgiveness.

He SHOULD have burned a Quran on the front lawn of the White House and then pissed on the ashes.

But THAT is something that will never happen.

We should demand an apology for almost 3000 deaths of our military personnel in their country. I said this before and I will say it again-Afghan Govt get control of your people or we are leaving. Give them 48 hours-then all our personnel and equipment leave 100% out of there. We can then reposition them on our border with Mexico.

  2. BobF says:

They haven’t apologized for killing the two enlisted GI’s.

This only goes to prove you cannot trust these people. This shooter had a security clearance that allowed him access to this room. That meant he was checked and cleared…a lot good that did.

    • BobF says:

I bet the shooter knew the American officers and worked beside them on a daily basis. I bet he knew they had families and wanted to go back home to their families. Freaking subhumans are lower than animals.

There’s a shocker from the US. Don’t want to prejudice anything with regard to the assailant who will be MUSLIM and have a name like ABDUL or MOHAMMAD.

    Jesus, we are such IDIOTS.

There is an Iranian Christian under an order of execution for being a Christian and not converting to Islam. If the Iranians execute him we should burn Korans for months in protest.

In the meantime you can Burn The Koran online. Show your outrage at the murder of our soldiers by Muslims. Remember Burn The Koran leaves no residue, no mess, no ashes. But it does get the job done.

Burn The Koran and feel good doing it.

    Wind, steel, and Honor!

It’s time we turned our Marines and Rangers loose. Along with a rather healthy dose of Zoomie pride…

Might even be room for a few Masters at Arms, and SEALS too!

Yes folks, this old timer is too pissed to post…

  6. Always On Watch says:

Obama’s apology is viewed as a sign of weakness by the Islamomaniacs. And they’re correct: the apology from Obama IS a sign of weakness. Indeed, it is a sign to the ummah that Islam will be supreme and rule the world. “The Great Satan” has groveled before their so-called holy book.

For 14 centuries, Islam has respected “the strong man.” And we don’t have that strong man in the Oval Office.

And where are the hordes of so-called moderate Muslims to protest the murders committed because four scribbled-on Korans were burned? **crickets chirping**

    BINGO!

Meaning, on that level also: “Islam IS as Islam DOES.” The silence is deafening.
