Los Angeles wants to take bite out of fast food

July 29th, 2008 . by TexasFred

LOS ANGELES (AP) - In the impoverished neighborhood of South Los Angeles, fast food is the easiest cuisine to find - and that’s a problem for elected officials who see it as an unhealthy source of calories and cholesterol.

The City Council was poised to vote Tuesday on a moratorium on new fast-food restaurants in a swath of the city where a proliferation of such eateries goes hand-in-hand with obesity.

“Our communities have an extreme shortage of quality foods,” City Councilman Bernard Parks said.

The aim of the yearlong moratorium, which was approved last week in committee, is to give the city time to try to attract restaurants that serve healthier food.

Here we go, the wonderful Nanny State of Kalifornia, and that bastion of free thinking, Los Angeles, is at it again. The #2 moonbat area of the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia is going to dictate what kind of restaurant can be opened.

Don’t smoke, conserve electricity, ride your bike, don’t drink, and now there’s going to be a campaign to support a yearlong moratorium on fast food joints.

A few days ago Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger made it official: California will be the first trans-fat free state in the nation. SOURCE

I know, as do most people, that there are many things we do that are bad for us, but does the government have any right to dictate our personal life practices to us? Does a Kennedy puppet, Schwarzenegger, know what’s best for you?? Better than YOU know yourself??

I think not. I know that for years I smoked, drank, ate all the wrong foods and then I paid for it, 2 heart attacks and 2 heart surgeries. I haven’t smoked in years, I eat right, if it’s not baked, broiled or grilled, I don’t touch it, I don’t even take an occasional drink and I feel better than I have felt in years.

But I did all this by my own decision, I did it because I wanted to, not because some washed up actor, if you call that acting, or some overly PC tree hugger on the L.A. City Council told me I needed to.

The Great Nanny State, the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia is trying to set the standard, and like blind mice, the rest of what once was the great USA will follow along politely!

It’s all about money Fred. The insurance companies or other business and governments want people to not do things that may cost them down the line in money or time off from work. Never mind that what business or government wants infringes on your right of personal choice.

It all began with Prohibition and while the banners have met with a few defeats, they’re winning the war.

I don’t want nor need anyone to tell me what I can and cannot eat. I don’t care how bad it is for me. I also try to stick to things being baked, boiled and grilled, but occasionally I like a somethings fried. The minute the government gets involved in my personal eating habits is the day is the day I fall over kicking and screaming demanding I’m released from this wicked state.

What would Texas be without all our great dishes? I’ve always thought people from Kalifornia were a bit…weird. Family members included.
