The number of illegal immigrants in the United States may have dropped by more than 1 million over the last year, according to a report issued Wednesday.
The Center for Immigration Studies in Washington said it estimates that the number of illegal immigrants nationally was 11.2 million in May, down from a peak of 12.5 million in August 2007.
Its numbers are estimates, the center said, based on data collected monthly by the Census Bureau on the number of foreign-born adults living in the U.S. The latest such data is from May.
The estimates are also based on the assumption that the “overwhelming majority? of immigrants in the U.S. illegally are Hispanics who are younger adults with relatively little education. That assumption, the report said, is based on “a large body of research.?

I want to clear something up, I have said this before, on numerous occasions, but apparently some of those folks suffering from a lack of reading comprehension skills have either missed it, misunderstood it, or, choose to ignore it as a matter of convenience.
I am NOT, in ANY way, against LEGAL immigration, I am the grandson of an immigrant, a LEGAL immigrant, a man that became an American, swore his allegiance to America, paid his taxes, raised his family to be good Americans.
His sons served this nation in the military. Most of his grandchildren have served, or, are still serving this nation in the military. His great grandchildren are serving this nation either in the military, law enforcement or both.
Legal immigrants have made this nation what it is, the greatest nation on earth, and a true melting pot of people and ideologies.
My gripe is with those that seek to destroy this nation by their illegal status, their refusal to become Americans, those that swear their allegiance to Mexico while living here, making their living, sending money to Mexico, and in many cases, not even paying taxes in this nation.
Those that denigrate America while living off of the fruits of this great land are the ILLEGALS I am so vehemently set against, those that will rape this nation, take and take and take, and give NOTHING in return, those that place a tremendous burden on ALL us, you and me, the LEGAL tax paying citizens of this great nation, those of us of ALL colors, races, religions and beliefs.
Anyone that can’t understand this is NOT the well educated Republican Conservative they claim to be. In my opinion, they are nothing more than a faux Conservative, one that embraces the beliefs of the libber left, and although their posts, on their own sites say one thing, their accusations against many others, in the comments sections of other blogs, speaks volumes to the statement of FAUX Conservatism being a FACT!
Faux Conservatives and RINOs? Stirring up as much hate and discontent in the blogosphere as possible. A short translation you say?? Blog Trolls.
I don’t even refer to Illegals as immigrants, I call them aliens.
Immigrants are those like your grandfather. Those are the men and women who waited their turn, went though the health inspections, and came to America to make a better life for themselves. They came here to become American Citizens, leaving behind the “Old Country” for the New. When they came her, they came according to the laws of this country. They didn’t steal across the border in the middle of the night. They came here proud, with their heads held high…they came to be Americans.
They don’t want to be called illegal. They don’t want to be called criminals.
When one breaks the law one becomes a criminal and that is illegal activity.
‘Nuff said.
I too am not against LEGAL immigration. But even still I admit that when you become an American you need to assimilate to our culture and norms. It boils my blood to have someone flying a flag of another country in protest of American laws. If that country is SO freaking great, then again, why did you leave? I don’t expect people to leave or forget their customs or culture, but it bothers me that I must change my American way of life to accommodate for others.
I’m going to use the inclusion of the Spanish language as an example because it’s the one that has fused itself into the Texan way of life. I don’t like seeing bulletin boards in all Spanish. It upset me that I had to pass FOUR years of Spanish in Undergrad to graduate…my GPA sucks because I got D’s in Spanish. Freaking SPANISH. Forget that I excelled in English and have a BA in COMMUNICATIONS!
And another thing you CANNOT demand the US changes it’s laws in order to fit in line to the expectations that you have or want. Don’t like em, don’t come. Any any American that doesn’t like the laws…VOTE. Run for office and change them!
Illegal is Illegal is Illegal. No other way to say it. No amnesty not apologies nothing. We won the war, got the land. Get over it. And even if we did give back the land, it would be Mexico and they would still be wanting to come to America! I don’t get it. If Mexico is so damn great…we’ll I’ve already stated this…you get the picture.
I have no regrets and I’m all for sending someone back to China, Mexico, England and wherever else they’ve come from, until the do it LEGALLY.
And America I for the LIFE of me cannot understand the law that gives one automatic citizenship just because they are born here. If I were born in France, it doesn’t make me French. If both parents are American than guess what, as am I.
My two cents or buck thirty five. Whatever…
[steps off soap box]
Well I don’t know about you Fred, but I’d sure like to put those faux intellectual conservatives head in a vise. Too bad that would be illegal.. And far be it for us to break the law.
Does it really take a Republican Conservative to understand the word “illegal?” My grandparents all came here from Europe. In fact when my Dad passed away a few years ago, going through some papers, I found my grandfather’s immigration papers into the US at Ellis Island. I big however, is, however, that I do not profess to be a conservative, just a Republican (and defintely not a Democrat).
StormWarning, all it really takes is common sense, and you are filled with it, as are most of my readers…
Unfortunately, the person I reference has none…
Illegal is illegal and that means criminal!
Watched Glenn Beck tonight talking about illegals pulling the same crap they do on the border in Atlanta! If living in fear is the kind of life citizens want for their children, then why don’t they move south?
The biological side came over, or was already here when the settlers came. My adoptive side, the grandparents came through Ellis Island….LEGALLY, and became LEGAL citizens. My mom’s mother decided that once she became a citizen, NO ONE in the house would speak Arabic. It would be ENGLISH only!
So what if there are are one million less! There are STILL 11.2 invaders!
Wow. No more Arabic, even @ home? Do you wish you’d had the chance to learn a second language? I think it’s important to keep that part of your identity. I want my children know more than just English, but of course that will be their first language. I even want my children to learn Spanish and possibly a third language, maybe sign language or something. Just my opinion.
@Tish No ma’am. My mom told me that she even refused to let friends and family speak it when they came to visit. My mom eventually lost the ability to do more than understand it some. And I can’t remember the few words my cousins taught me. The food on the other hand, was a whole ‘nuther story. It’s why I don’t cook. Lebanese food is hard work. LOL Well, that and pure D laziness.
Yes, I agree, people should have the option to learn a different language. It should NOT be forced on them though. Even in smaller towns, there are signs in Spanish, with no English translation. They’ve foisted their culture on us, there’s no gradual blend as there was in times past.
I understand. It should NOT be forced upon anyone in that matter.
My father taught himself Spanish (fluently) and always spoke to me (or tried to) in Spanish, and I would always say “Papa, please lets speak English”, I wish I’d @ least tried to learn some from him.
I agree there is not gradual blend…
