UN arms treaty could put U.S. gun owners in foreign sights, say critics

UNITED NATIONS – A treaty being hammered out this month at the United Nations — with Iran playing a key role — could expose the records of America’s gun owners to foreign governments — and, critics warn, eventually put the Second Amendment on global trial.

International talks in New York are going on throughout July on the final wording of the so-called Arms Trade Treaty, which supporters such as Amnesty International USA say would rein in unregulated weapons that kill an estimated 1,500 people daily around the world. But critics, including the National Rifle Association’s Wayne LaPierre, warn the treaty would mark a major step toward the eventual erosion of the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment gun-ownership rights.

Americans “just don’t want the UN to be acting as a global nanny with a global permission slip stating whether they can own a gun or not,” LaPierre said. “It cheapens our rights as American citizens, and weakens our sovereignty,” he warned in an exclusive interview with FoxNews.com from the halls of the UN negotiating chambers.

The world body has already been criticized for appointing Iran to a key role in the talks, even as Tehran stands accused by the UN of arming Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s bloody crackdown on rebels. The Obama administration in 2009 reversed Bush administration policy by agreeing to take part in the talks. But in another exclusive interview with FoxNews.com, the top government official on the issue under President Bush says he’s seen nothing new to convince him the U.S. should be at the table today.

UN arms treaty could put U.S. gun owners in foreign sights, say critics

This story has been floating around the ‘net for quite a while but this is the first time I have seen it posted by a reputable news source.

I have had quite a few of my readers send me links to it, from other sources, but I just wasn’t comfortable using those particular links. If you’re a regular reader of The TexasFred Blog you already know, I SOURCE everything I post, I do a lot of research and I always do my level best to engage in 100% accurate journalistic integrity.

Now I have a source to this story that I am comfortable using, so, here goes.

How many times have I, and many other American patriots said, “Get the U.N. OUT of the U.S. and get the U.S. OUT of the U.N.”? More than I can remember right off hand.

There have been a large number of folks that were entirely skeptical regarding the validity of this so-called UN arms treaty and have wondered if it was only going to apply to rogue nations and their militia-type militaries.

Well, sure, it should, but it’s seriously beginning to look more and more like a global attempt, furthered and supported by the EVIL regime of Barack Hussein Obama, to find some way to totally and completely do away with the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in an effort towards full disarmament of the American people.

Ladies and Gentlemen, if the true intent of this effort is our disarmament, then we are seeing the death of America happening right before our eyes! If any of this is correct we are about to be truly living under a totalitarian REGIME, one very similar to Russia, China and Eastern Europe.

While the treaty’s details are still under discussion, the document could straitjacket U.S. foreign policy to the point where Washington could be restricted from helping arm friends such as Taiwan and Israel, said Greg Suchan, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the State Department’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs from 2000 to 2007.

Suchan also highlighted ongoing concern that the treaty may end up giving foreigners access to U.S. gun-ownership records.

On that score, LaPierre, who serves as NRA executive vice president, warns that the “UN’s refusal” to remove civilian firearms and ammunition from the scope of the treaty amounts to a declaration that only governments should be gun owners.

I believe Wayne LaPierre is correct in his assessment. In ALL cases of gun control, as it is suggested by governments, it’s not so much about GUNS as it is CONTROL.

When you hear the words U.N. Arms Treaty just think totalitarian control by the government and deprivation of ALL Constitutional rights, because once the Second Amendment falls, the others are going right along with it.

And if all that isn’t enough to raise your blood pressure:

Iran Will Oversee Discussions on National Gun Registration Treaty

It’s public knowledge that the U.N. is currently negotiating an Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) ostensibly aimed at preventing guns from crossing borders. It is also known that the Obama administration is taking part in these negotiations and that the treaty will, if ratified, eventually require gun registration in the U.S.

I wrote on this on July 5.

But what’s changed since my first post on this treaty is that Iran has been named to the group overseeing the ATT conference. In other words, a country which the U.N. security council has denounced for nuclear violations is being allowed to oversee treaty talks that will, if ratified, eventually require gun registration in the U.S.

But it gets even crazier. As CNSnews has pointed out, even as Iran oversees a treaty to stop other countries from allowing firearms to cross borders, it ignores the U.N. Security Council prohibition against sending weaponry to Syria.

The bottom line: In a real sense, the rights of law-abiding Americans are being subjected to the whims of an Iranian regime that is lawless. Nothing good can come of this.

If you don’t HAVE guns, get some. If you have some, get MORE. I think we’re going to need them!

  1. Steve Dennis says:

This has been in the works since Obama took office and I firmly believe Fast and Furious was initiated to gain public support for the treaty.I do not trust the Obama regime in the least and I think there is always some nefarious plan at work behind the scenes. We cannot allow the UN to start dictating to the US gun policy, if we do the end of the republic is soon to follow.

  2. Katie says:

Once a treaty is ratified it becomes the law of the nation. But if a law is unconstitutional it is thrown out as unconstitutional. So if a treaty is unconstitutional and declared so, is it then thrown out?

  3. minuteman26 says:

Fred, it’s quite obvious that the Choomster and Thunder Thighs are going to sign off on this treaty. I believe the Senate has 30 days to vote it down or it becomes ratified. Suggest all get in touch with their Senators and ask them to vote against this. Treaty will over ride the 2nd Ammendment if ratified. The Obama regime is pulling out all the stops to bring this country to its knees. Should this become ratified can see an open season here on Commies, muzzies and blue helmets. Am sure Obama has anticipated such a reaction, which is why HS purchased all that 40cal ammo. Things could get interesting real quick.

If this treaty is signed by our muslim leader and is then put before the Senate for approval/disapproval keep your eye on our own Kay Bailey. She tends toward the rino disease when not being watched. I remember her famous walk arm in arm with Patsy Shroeder way back when the females of the Congress were showing their feminist unity. KBH is now a lame duck Senator and may just drop her conservative veneer. Right now she is “making a decision” on whether to vote for or against the LOST(Law of the Sea) Treaty, another globalist UN attack on American sovereignty. I kinda think Kay may be a bit pissed at Texas conservatives for her embarrassing loss to Rick Perry in the gubnatorial race.

  5. PatriotUSA says:

    Well said Fred, well said.

Minuteman26 is dead on target. I have already called, emailed, the useless senators we have in POORegon. Libtarded fools that they are, they will follow the slime trail of the mussie in the White House and his bitch rag skank, clinton.

I posted a link up to this post in my rant on this treaty over at PC.

    So glad you are back.

I think, no I know I need some more guns. Never, ever have enough.

F-k bary and his traitorous administration!

  6. Bunkerville says:

Dick Morris thinks they will wait until the lame duck session to vote on it. Either way, we are losing these battles, one by one I fear.

  7. Patrick Sperry says:

This is, IMNSHO, just another aspect on the assault on America, Freedom, and Liberty by the authoritarians. Led by the obama…

You want my guns, Barry? Come and claim them. Come on, come closer….a little closer….

  10. crunchman says:

Did the UN listen to Wayne LaPierre? Hell No! IMHO, this, the economy, and Obamacare are the biggest items for Americans to be concerned with today! If we don’t get the anti-Constitution forces out of power, we are doomed and it will take an armed uprising to correct the situation! I’m sending the NRA an additional donation to help fight the UN and voting against anyone who supports Obamacare or anything this administration has enacted. What are y’all doing?
