2 dead, 18 wounded in overnight shootings across city

Twenty people were shot, two fatally, across the city Friday night and Saturday morning.

The weekend’s violence started about 6:20 p.m. Friday when two men sitting in the back seat of an Oldsmobile were shot in the 500 block of South Kilpatrick Avenue in the West Garfield Park neighborhood by someone who walked up to the vehicle, police said.

One victim, 22, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 7 p.m., and the other, 18, was shot in the upper back and was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, officials said. The dead man, Richard Johnson, lived in the 1600 block of Plum Street in Aurora, a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

The other homicide happened about 12:15 a.m. in the 11500 block of South Wentworth Avenue in the West Pullman neighborhood. Two men were shot and one didn’t survive. Police said an 18-year-old was found dead with a gun in his hand and a second man, 25, was dropped off at Roseland Hospital with gunshot wounds to the leg. The 18-year-old affiliates with a gang but it’s not clear if he fired his gun before he was struck, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the dead man as Derrick L. Baker, of the 11600 block of South Yale Avenue.

Surely this story MUST be a lie! How can a major news source like the Chicago Tribune print such lies?

It MUST be all lies, right? Isn’t Chicago a highly restricted and well regulated anti-gun city, one that is being administered by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, a disciple of Barack Hussein Obama himself, often called Chicago Jesus?

How can the City of Chicago have so much mischief and mayhem in a GUN CONTROL city, on ONE NIGHT, when the City of Dallas, a place where everyone and their dog carries a gun, didn’t even have a random *drive by* gang related shooting?

In Chicago, gun owners are required to have a Chicago firearm owner’s permit, which costs $100 and must be renewed every three years. Before getting the permit, the resident must complete a training course that includes at least four hours of classroom training and one hour of range time. Each gun must be registered with the city, and the registration must be renewed every year, at a cost of $15 per gun. Gun possession is permitted only inside a dwelling, not in a garage or on the outside grounds of the property. Only one gun at a time may be kept in a usable state.[18][19] Chicago’s ordinances are being challenged in court, with plaintiffs alleging that they are so restrictive and burdensome as to interfere with citizens’ Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. SOURCE

There are stories in the news almost every day about Chicago violence, GUN violence, this is just a sample of the stories: Illinois gun laws not stopping Chicago violence, judging by that story, it would appear that outlawing GUNS may not be the answer. And not to be judgmental but, Gun Violence Leaves 4 More Chicago Youth Wounded, can someone please tell me exactly HOW that GUN CONTROL thing in Chicago is working out?

Shouldn’t these types of stories be nonexistent if the above illustrate GUN CONTROL really worked? Maybe some of the people doing all of the shooting didn’t register their gun(s) and attend the safety course.

And then there’s this: In a city racked by the paroxysms of violence, an activist in Chicago is turning to the Nation of Islam to help create a peace summit between warring gang factions.

I don’t mean to sound hypercritical but seriously, turning to Calypso Louie and The Religion of Death, Destruction, Beheadings and Hatred? And expecting there to be a positive outcome?

Yes, we do have gun violence in Texas, right here in the Dallas area, I am not going to deny that fact, but realistically, more people die from gunshot wounds in Chicago than the mind can comprehend.

Banning guns is NOT the answer, it never has been and it never will be!

More people shot (killed) in a Chicago week than most if not ALL months in all of Texas.* Not sure of the exact numbers-but I bet they’d be proven! Take the number of people and square miles of Chi-town versus the 2nd largest state in the union and figure the math! The odds of being killed via gun violence are miniscule in Texas-in Hussein’s (former) home town (after somewhere in Kenya, then Honolulu, then somewhere in Indonesia, then Portland area (I think) then somewhere in Connecticut (’cause that’s where his SSN is from…) anyway, you get the point about why Hussein’s “hometown” needs some explanation…

Back to the math-Chicago=DANGER OF GUN CRIME! Texas (where “everybody has more than 1 gun”..) not so much!

    Oh, nice article Fred :)

*The RGV doesn’t count-I said “TEXAS” not “Mexico!”

I love the requirements for obtaining a LEGAL firearm. I would bet all of my savings that none of the murderers attended the 4 hour course nor did they register their guns.

To compare Dallas to Chicago is like comparing the special olympics track team to the USA olympic team. But to see what works it is a valid point. Chicago under the leadership of Rahm Emmanuel stated that Chick Fil A didn’t represent Chicago values. That’s pretty damn obvious. I’d bet there’s a few Chick Fil A’s in Dallas because THOSE VALUES ARE AMERICAN VALUES.

You want to see the result of far left governance. You need only look to Detroit, LA and Chicago. You can see what Obama’s values are. Give him 4 more years? If we do, Chicago will become the “Why we need stricter gun control” example. Trust me it’s coming. That’s why Rahm isn’t doing anything to stop it at the local level.

Well, actually, in many urban areas it is called that. However, the most common reference to the “sideways hold” is ‘pray and spray’. With reference to the Chicago “phenomenon” there have been some 250+ murders by individuals and drive-bys since Jan. 1, 2012. That’s about one a day. Also quite a few of those murdered in the drive-bys in Chicago were small children. Apparently ‘Rhambo’ doesn’t care about that. Let’s send the Liar in Chief back where he belongs in November.

  4. LD Jackson says:

I’ll bet you they have some excuse for it. You’ll never get them to admit they are wrong about guns.

  5. Bloviating Zeppelin says:

Plus all those shootings that are going on, rampantly, all over Florida, because the DEM/MSM has portrayed CCW permits in Florida as SOARING way above and beyond what is “normal.”

What? Not so? Chicago ever more violent?

Man, what’s up with that? I certainly don’t get it. The media and government SAY that gun laws not only work, but that we need more and MORE!

Twenty people shot and two dead in just Friday night and Saturday morning. I wonder what the tally will be after the rest of Saturday, Saturday night, and all of Sunday?

In answer to your question: 18-year-old killed, 14-year-old wounded in overnight shootings

Overnight shootings bring weekend gunshot deaths to 6 so the front page headline on the Chicago Tribune says…

Additionally, in DALLAS TEXAS, a place where damned near everyone HAS a gun and carries a gun, this is the only shooting I can find over the weekend..

Man shot to death in Northwest Dallas

  7. theredneckengineer says:

I think Houston,San Antonio, Dallas, and maybe El Paso are all the hotbeds of crime in our fair state, and I don’t think that there are as many gun deaths in all of those cities combined as there are in Chicago over the same period of time.
Even if there is the same number, you’re comparing a huge population spread over an enormous area to that of Chicago, with a large population and relatively small comparative area.
The antis scream about the criminals coming to other states to get their guns, then going home to DC/New York/Chicago/L.A. and usin them to commit crimes there. My question for them is, if that’s what they’re doing, why aren’t they committing crimes in the areas where guns are easier to get?
Odds are, they don’t want to get shot at by someone legally carrying a gun that can probably aim.
