Romney calls for arming Syrian opposition, as part of Middle East course change

Mitt Romney called Monday for a change of course in America’s Middle East policy, accusing President Obama of sitting on the sidelines in the face of a “profound upheaval” across the region. The Republican nominee pledged that, if elected, he would prosecute a far more engaged foreign policy, including helping to arm the opposition in Syria’s bloody civil war.

Romney calls for arming Syrian opposition

Obviously Mr. Romney does NOT read my blog, maybe he should … if he did he would already KNOW that he is about to open Pandora’s Box if he gives arms to Arabs and Muslims. This has been the first thing Romney has said since the campaign began in earnest that I can honestly disagree with!

It doesn’t matter one little bit which way the battle goes, no matter WHO wins or who loses, in the end WE will still be the enemy. That is the nature of the Islamic beast, they HATE us, *The Great Satan*, with a passion and they will do anything in their power to kill Americans at any time, over the most incredibly silly reason imaginable.

Muslims will fight each other, over religious differences, over a minor misunderstanding in doctrine, they will go to WAR, but let one guy have a flash of American hatred and they will STOP their religious war, band together and go kill some Americans, bomb a Church, a school or a hospital, then stand together cheering and firing weapons into the air as they celebrate a *victory* over the Infidel.

Once that celebration is done they go right back to killing each other.

If Romney were to arm either side in Syria, or any other Muslim nation, it could very well turn the tide for the side we arm, but what happens at some later date when we have to go up against our former thought to be allies and our troops have to face those very weapons that the Americans sent there for some Islamic regime to use?

It can’t happen you say? Really? Well, if your memory is failing you, let me give you a brief refresher course on exactly what Muslim nations are, have been and always will be.

Afghanistan had become a poor Socialist nation that was sympathetic to the Soviet Union, that was Russia’s name back in the *old days* for you youngsters. The Mujahideen were the *freedom fighters* of Afghanistan and stood against the Soviet sympathetic Afghan government and were creating a great deal of consternation for the Afghan government.

The Soviets deployed the 40th Army in Afghanistan on December 24, 1979 and for several years they kicked the Mujahideen up one side and down the other. The casualties were horrendous, disease ran rampant, the Mujahideen and their forces waged a valiant battle but they were being slaughtered at the hands of the Soviet 40th Army.

The CIA took an interest in the war in Afghanistan. Since it involved the Soviets it was a bit of a *hot button* issue for the CIA. There were CIA officers and operatives that considered killing Communists in general, and Russians in particular, to be their mission in life.

Certain segments of Conservative Texas took an interest in the happenings in Afghanistan, Joanne Herring in particular, and she took her case to Texas Congressional Rep. Charlie Wilson and pretty much informed Wilson that he WOULD get involved in her cause.

Some say she used her *feminine wiles* to convince Wilson, who was considered to be a social liberal but a very pro-America and freedom Democrat.

One thing led to another and Wilson made a trip to Afghanistan and saw what the Mujahideen were up against and he then became connected to CIA case officer Gust Avrakotos. Gust was that CIA guy that took the killing of Commies as his calling in life and he became involved with Wilson in the arming of the Mujahideen in their effort to take on the Soviet forces.

The actions of Herring, Wilson, Avrakotos and the CIA were very successful, the tide was turned, the Mujahideen were able to fight the Soviets in such a way that the rate of attrition was more than Soviet Russia could stand.

The financial impact of the war in Afghanistan was the most important factor in the dismantling of the Soviet Union.

The Soviet Army began to withdraw from Afghanistan, the final troop withdrawal started on May 15, 1988, and ended on February 15, 1989. Afghanistan has sometimes been referred to as the “Soviet Union’s Vietnam War”.

Afghanistan bankrupted the Soviet Union.

“The U.S. had nothing whatsoever to do with these people’s decision to fight … But we’ll be damned by history if we let them fight with stones.” - Charlie Wilson

Noble words from Rep. Wilson, because in some cases the Mujahideen were fighting with stones. The Mujahideen had figured out that when Soviet attack helicopters flew through the valleys that if they, the Mujahideen, were up above the level the Soviet helicopters flew, they could indeed bring one down if they threw stones from above into the rotors of the helicopters.

It was a neat trick for a short period of time, and then the Soviets caught on and kept their aircraft away from canyon walls.

The arming of the Mujahideen, especially with shoulder fired rockets that could bring down the attack helicopters was a noble action and they drove the Soviets out, but the Mujahideen became the Taliban, the Taliban became al-Qaida and if you fast forward to today, American troops are STILL, to this very day, facing some of the weapons that the CIA supplied to the Mujahideen back in the 1980’s.

Someone needs to point all of this out to Mr. Romney. There is nothing good that can come from the arming of ANY Muslim fighters, they will NEVER be our allies, no matter what they may say, WE will always be *The Great Satan* and they will NOT hesitate to turn those weapons on US, our troops or our citizens if given the opportunity!

Article I read said Romney said “arm those we determine as the good guys.” I didn’t see that exactly. But even if he did or meant that. That’s like looking for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Look at reality, the evil in the face, no rainbow coalition with those sorts. Us and friends are boiled in the pot. Yes, I’ll vote Romney…to hopefully live to fight another day.

  2. minuteman26 says:

Fred, the only thing I can say here is that the more dead ragheads the better. If by arming the Syrian “rebels” it puts them on a equal footing with the Syrian Army thats OK by me. Will extend the fighting between the two factions and create more plant food. Will be less jihadis for us and Israel to worry about. Israel will keep things contained should the fighting get out of hand. A few dead Turks would be acceptable also.

  3. the unit says:

Just a thought. Russia and China both have dissident Islamic factions in their worlds. Who do they support in Syria, and who Iran support too? Maybe they say “let them have at it…over there, not here.” You may kill more Al-Qaeda ragheads aiding Syria govt. Seems none of them wishes to do endless battle with them again. Keep it intramural !
Now us, threw dictators who kept it under control under the Titanic. Buried with Osama in Arabic Sea, OK? All bad guys, but in that evil world? Just a thought.

  4. Katie says:

Give the “rebels” arms and the Syrians will first kill all the Jews in the land, the Christians are next, then they kill each other.

They hate other tribes, then families, then members of your family, etc… As long as the SOB stays alive, he will kill everyone else.

  5. BobF says:

Let’s see? We didn’t learn in Iran, Egypt, and Libya. So, let’s arm Syrian rebels and maybe they’ll not turn the arms we give them upon us…yea, right.

Just like in Libya, two years ago, all these Muslims in Syria were shouting “death to America” and now we want to befriend them. This is madness!

  6. Texasperated says:

Yes, Romney said he wants to arm the “Pro-US” rebels in Syria. Kind of like the Eisenhower administration armed the “Pro-US” Castro movement in Cuba in 1958. I’m curious how we can tell the “Pro-US” rebels from the “Pro-Islamist” rebels? Do they eat sausage on their pizzas? Do they wear Nike tee-shirts?

My point is simply that there is no way to be certain that the rebels are not simply “Pro-US” for as long as it takes to arm themselves and then they go back to eating pizza without sausage.

Still going to vote for Romney — not because he is the best candidate for the job, but because he is only the second worst.

    Keep your powder dry

  7. Patrick Sperry says:

Face it, there are no groups in the mid-east, or anywhere in the muslim controlled world that are truly supporters of the U.S. Anything sent there and not used in their favorite pastime of self slaughter will, at some point be turned on us or our close allies.

Maybe drop in a few boxes of “cherry bomb” munitions that only fit their weapons…
