Obama’s Charm Offensive Could Work, Lawmakers Say

WASHINGTON — President Obama’s newly initiated charm offensive with Republicans just might work as he tries to resolve the recently enacted sequester cuts and attempts to avert another budget showdown near the end of the month, lawmakers on Capitol Hill said today.

“If we’re going to really get to an agreement, this is a good step,” Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., told George Stephanopoulos on ABC News’ “This Week.” “You have to start meeting with people. You have to start developing relationships. You’ve got to spend a fair amount of time figuring out what we agree on first.”

“I’m welcoming with open arms. I think the president is tremendously sincere. I don’t think this is just a political change in tactic,” Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., who called the president “my friend” said on NBC’s ”Meet the Press.

“It’s time to start leading, and the way you do that is quit poking your finger in people’s eyes and start building relationships, and I think he’s got a great chance to accomplish a big deal,” he said. “But, you know, you’ve got a lot of scabs and sores on people that it’s going to take a while for that to heal.”

Has the GOP gone and totally LOST what minds they had? Surely they can’t be seriously falling for this line of BS from Barack Obama? Can they?

Coburn and Johnson were among the 12 Republican senators who dined with Obama at the Jefferson Hotel earlier this week — the president’s first overture in his GOP courtship. On Thursday, he sat down for lunch at the White House with Republican Rep. Paul Ryan, chairman of the House Budget committee, and Rep. Chris Van Hollen, the ranking Democrat on the committee, a meeting Ryan described as his first ever detailed discussion with the president.

“This is the first time I’ve ever had a conversation with the president lasting more than, say, two minutes or televised exchanges,” Ryan said on “Fox News Sunday.” “I’ve never really had a conversation with him, on these issues before. I am excited that we had the conversation. We had a very frank exchange. We come from different perspectives. I ran against him in the last election.”

Ryan said the budget plan he will unveil later this week will “promote repealing Obamacare and replacing it with a better system.”

Somehow I thought that at least Paul Ryan wouldn’t fall under the spell of this Socialist chump that tries to be POTUS. I guess I was wrong.

I know that Ryan and Tom Coburn of Oklahoma are thought to be Conservative, I know that MANY seriously are hoping for Paul Ryan to emerge from the debacle of having run as Mitt Romney’s VPOTUS candidate and start to do well on the national scene on his own as he forges his way to the top of the GOP.

If sucking up to Obama is all the GOP has to offer then I was indeed 100% right all along when I plainly stated; the GOP is nothing more than Dem Lite!

“He’s coming to the House conference, which I think is positive. He’s only done that once before, but he should come and listen and communicate and try to find where we can find common ground, where can we bring that accountability back to government. That’s what Republicans are looking for,” House Republican Whip Kevin McCarthy said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“Any time that both parties are talking, it’s a good thing,” he said. “Now, this should have happened four years ago. I’m glad it’s happening now. But is this about politics or is this genuine?”

Don’t you guys have ANY suspicion at all? Can’t you see that a sudden change of course from Obama, a total 180 degree turn-around, is a sign that something is up? Don’t ANY of you see a set-up in the making and all of you as lambs being led to the slaughter?

Democrats also said the president’s outreach was a positive step.

Of course the Dems said that; they have Obama’s back on this and quite likely some of them have helped to craft this *snake in the grass* move. You doubt that?

“I think the meetings are a good idea because you understand each other better and you may get a measure of courage,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said on CNN’s “State of the Union. “All of us come here to get a job done for the American people, and certainly that is the case with the president of the United States. He’s been very bipartisan in his approach.

Do you need any further proof that this is the *set-up from HELL*?

When a demented old crone like Nancy Pelosi starts in with all the “He’s been very bipartisan in his approach” BS that needs to set off alarm bells for every decent Republican and ALL Conservatives in this nation. The most Liberal of ALL the Libtards, Pelosi, isn’t going to say or do anything nice to or about the GOP and she is damned sure not looking to work hand in hand with them.

Pelosi may suck them in, get the drop on some GOP Senators and Congressmen and then work with them with her foot firmly planted on their throats!

“These meetings are not something to say, well I’ll do this with you now, and I’ll do that with them later,” she said. “I think it is let’s get some things done together to make elections less important. Let’s come together for the benefit of the American people.”

For the benefit of the American people? Really? And we’re supposed to just jump up in the air with excitement because Nancy Pelosi wants us to come together for the benefit of the American people?

If you believe ANY of that load of crap, call me, I have some land you may be interested in, that is; if you like hot, dry, sandy, snake infested desert that’s over-run with those wetbacks that Pelosi and Janet Napolitano believe aren’t still coming in…

They are F’in politicians; the lot of them. They are mostly weak minded amoebas sucking off the teat of gov’t to win one reelection, and then be set with lifetime benefits.

Our representative Gov’t is a sham; negotiating to see who gets more for their constituency, all without giving a damn about the country, and our president is a traveling snake oil salesman.

  2. Bloviating Zeppelin says:

Republicans want to be loved — not Conservatives. Actual Conservatives couldn’t care less.

This is nothing more than an indication that DC is rife with “bipartisan corruption” with the intent and meaning that, with this administration, the words “bipartisan” and “compromise” mean COMPLIANCE and ADHERENCE to precisely what Mr Obama wishes.

There is NO room on the Demorat/Obaka side for ACTUAL “bipartisanship” or “compromise,” plain and simple.

You’re discovering who the RINOs REALLY are.

The GOP so much wants to be liked, their willing to bow before the destroyer .

Jeremiah 4:7 The lion (where do lions come from?) is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles (Blacks which are of the Negro race and Arabs which are of the Semite race are not Gentiles) is on his way ; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste , without an inhabitant .

  4. Bunkerville says:

Too stupid to know how to deal with this evil conniver. While not a particular fan of Paul, at least he was willing to stand on what he believed. While they pigged out on our buck, he took the machine on.

  5. Katie says:

Why do I believe that we are sunk and that the only way to bring about change will be with an armed revolution?

If we do go to revolution and win let the blood of liberals spill worse than it did during the French “Reign of Terror”. Heads not only should roll, but be shown to the masses. The ratings will soar through the roof though.

  6. minuteman26 says:

Real congressional patriots should/would be fighting anything Obama proposes tooth and nail. Gridlock, stalemate and repeal should be the orders of the day.

  7. Longstreet says:

THIS is why I left the GOP and went Independent. It was enough fighting the democrats, but having to fight my own party, too — well, that was the straw that put the camel in traction!

May God help us, for we certainly don’t seem to be able to help ourselves!

  8. Hgpsurf says:

There is absolutely no way in HELL that Obama is genuine and any Republican who falls for his “charm” is a complete fool. If we get this then why the heck can’t the moron Republicans get this, too?

  9. himself9 says:

As charming as any other snake in the grass. Haven’t been a Repub since they put Dole on the ticket, war hero; yes, RINO; yes

  10. Bloviating Zeppelin says:

himself9: you could place that appellation squarely upon McCain as well.
