Texas Senate approves drug testing for some welfare applicants

Texas Blue Bonnet 120x70Some Texas applicants for welfare would be subjected to drug testing and would be permanently cut off if they fail three times under a bill passed Wednesday by the state Senate.

The bill covers Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program applicants. The program, which provides poor people with money for food, clothing, housing and other basic needs, distributes about $90 million to more than 100,000 Texans annually. The amount of the payment depends on family size and income.

“Taxpayer money should not be used to subsidize someone’s drug habit,” bill sponsor Sen. Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, said before the bill sailed through on a 31-0 vote that sent it to the House.

The program already requires adult TANF applicants to sign a pledge not to sell or use drugs. Nelson’s bill would move Texas in line with seven other states that require testing. It would not cover other welfare programs such as food stamps or other state benefit programs. Fox News

I see only one thing wrong with this story; Texas Senate approves drug testing for some welfare applicants.

I am of the opinion that ALL welfare applicants and recipients should be tested. I am also of the opinion that ALL Social Security Disability recipients should be tested as well.

There are far too many in this nation that receive public assistance, welfare, food stamps or, here in Texas, a Lone Star Card, that are physically able, suffer no disability and are doing nothing more than scamming the system for what they consider to be FREE MONEY. There is no such thing as FREE Money, but welfare slugs don’t understand that.

If a person has been seriously injured and left disabled, if a person has suffered a health issue that has left them disabled, that is what Social Security, welfare and a plethora of other social programs are designed to assist with.

Having 14 babies is NOT a disability. When the only resume you can compose consists of a rundown of your *rap sheet* and lists your *baby momma/daddy* as the most reputable reference you can garner, you’re NOT disabled, you’re STUPID.

If you dropped out of school to become a drug dealer, or, as the Dems like to call it, an unlicensed pharmaceutical representative, and you get busted and sent to prison, you’re not disabled, you’re STUPID.

If you’re turning tricks and supporting your drug habit, your pimp’s drug habit and all of your *home girls* drug habits, you’re NOT disabled, you’re STUPID.

If you have been an honest tax paying wage earner and have supported, educated and loved your family and have truly become disabled and can’t work, YOU deserve help.

If you have paid into the Social Security system for years and become disabled YOU deserve the payments you receive, it is, after all, YOUR money.

If you have worked all of your life and have reached retirement age you are deserving of the benefits you receive through Social Security.

This nation is in a financial mess, and much of that mess could be cleaned up and the U.S. budget could be seriously reduced IF there was comprehensive welfare reform and IF we had an enforcement program that was put in place and vigorously enforced, removing all of the welfare and Social Security cheaters from the rolls.

Drug testing is a start, but it needs to be equally applied to ALL recipients of welfare, food stamps, Medicaid and Social Security. The scams and scam artists must be stopped.

And one other thing; if you can’t feed em, don’t breed em!

Add to that: You must be a citizen!

Only citizens should gain any government help. If you cannot fed, cloth and shelter your brood; go back to the hell hole you come from and make them do it.

  2. Bloviating Zeppelin says:

    Correct!

    Only if

    1. You’re a citizen, and
    2. Drug test EVERY form of handout.
    3. Three strikes and you’re OUT!

    Couldn’t agree more!

One strike and you are deported sounds good to me. Just saying. Since we otherwise can’t seem to get them paddling back.

Though a native born Texan from Smith County, I have not lived in Texas since a child in 1958. Family job w/Cotton Belt Rail Road was transferred to Shreveport. That stated, I do not know if Texas requires Voter Id at the polls? If so, I believe voting rights should be suspended if voter has not been gainfully employed for two years. If a resident wishes to be a perpetual welfare leech on the work-blood of hard working Americans, then that welfare pariah must not only be drug tested but surrender voter Id too, upon 2nd anniversary of unemployment. Strong measures are past due in combating the generational welfare poisoning of -pride in a days work, pride in self-worth, pride in family responsibility, pride and value in education.

PM49, I like your point as well-although I don’t think I’d give 2 years of unemployment. Maybe you have to have been employed (uninterrupted no less than a 30 day break) for the past 2 years in order to qualify to vote)…
