Wendy Davis — Wrong for Texas

Editorial: Public privateering — Wendy Davis said she wouldn’t, but did it anyway

Wendy Davis 2Wendy Davis isn’t the first Texas politician suspected of confusing public duties with private income. Elected and appointed officials from both parties have dipped their beaks, and, sadly, Davis won’t be the last as long as Texas legislators write their own laws.

Except Davis insisted she would be different, that “Texans deserve better than failed leaders who dole out favors to friends and cronies behind closed doors … [a governor] who knows that quid pro quo shouldn’t be the status quo.”

So it was disappointing to learn Sunday, in another excellent bit of journalism from senior political writer Wayne Slater, that Davis, as a state senator from Fort Worth, profited from her day job as legal counsel to public entities while also voting and twisting arms in ways that benefited her clients, including the North Texas Tollway Authority.

“Everyone does it” isn’t much of an excuse when it’s exactly what you told voters you wouldn’t do. SOURCE

For the past few days I have neglected Texas politics as I covered the situation in Nevada. It’s time for me to get back to the business of Texas!

Did you ever have this exchange with your parents, particularly your Mother? “But Mom, all the kids are doing it…” I know I did, and Mom’s stock answer was, “If all of your friends jumped off of a cliff…”

The correct answer to that question is NOT, “But Mom, we don’t have any cliffs in this part of Louisiana…”

Trust me on that one.

My Mom is the reason I have the values I do today, she is the reason I turned out the way I did. She ingrained honesty into my fiber, she is the one that taught me that the TRUTH is always the best course of action and that honesty is one of the most admirable qualities a person can have. My Mom is the reason I don’t care what party a politician belongs to and is why I fully expect that they should ALL tell us the truth and stand up for their words and promises.

That’s what I believe, but spending my late *formative* years in Louisiana was a direct polar opposite politically to the honesty and integrity that I was taught growing up.

Is it ever going *happen* that way? Will we ever have politicians that can be counted on to be filled with integrity and honest to a fault?

In most cases; there is not a snowballs chance in hell that a politician will always tell the truth and stand up for their words and deeds, in most cases.

Sure, there is always that rare individual that has the personal integrity that inspires them to do the right thing, to tell the truth and to be an honest politician, but in this day and time such a person is truly a rare commodity and a breath of fresh air.

Wendy *the warthog* Davis is a duplicitous liar. She is the kind of person that my Mom was referring to when she said, “That SOB would climb a tall tree and tell a lie rather than stand on the ground and tell the truth..”

I guess we all went through that *formative* period, a time when our parents told us a lot of stuff that we thought was just that; stuff.

As I grew older and matured I came to realize that they really did know what they were talking about and that they had passed along a wealth of knowledge to me. They gave me an education that you can’t set a price on, and when MY kids came along I passed as much as I could on to them, hoping that a goodly portion of it *stuck*.

As life would have it, it DID stick! My kids are good and decent people, they are political Conservatives and my Son and youngest Daughter are parents of their own kids now.

I hear their interactions with their children and I hear myself in BOTH of them and it makes me proud. They have become that which they didn’t understand as they were growing up; they have become good and honest parents that want nothing but the best for their kids and they expect the kids to be honest and to show respect.

That’s why MY kids aren’t Democrats.

This why we need to demand total honesty and full accountability from OUR politicians and elected officials. Seriously, wouldn’t it be a great thing to be able to hold our politicians up as *shining examples* of good and right as opposed to being an example of keeping yourself just a step or 2 from going to jail?

Honesty and accountability, those are qualities that Davis does NOT possess and two of the reasons Wendy *the warthog* Davis only needs to see the State House and the Texas Capitol on a visitors pass.

Davis is WRONG for Texas, she can’t spell *honesty and accountability*, she sure can’t live that lifestyle!
