Democrats: Texas gov should disavow secession talk

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - In a state that once was its own nation, a Republican governor who talked about secession without completely dismissing the idea has Democratic lawmakers in an uproar. Gov. Rick Perry, in comments following an anti-tax “tea party” Wednesday, never did advocate Texas breaking away from the United States but suggested that Texans might at some point get so fed up they would want to leave the union.

That was enough to feed opinions for and against secession on Web sites, cable TV and talk radio across the nation.

At the Texas Capitol on Thursday, Rep. Jim Dunnam of Waco, joined by several fellow Texas House Democrats, said some people associate talk of secession with racial division and the Civil War and that Perry should disavow any notion of seceding.

“Talk of secession is an attack on our country. It can be nothing else. It is the ultimate anti-American statement,” Dunnam said at a news conference.

Democrats: Texas gov should disavow secession talk

On Wednesday, April 15, 2009 I addressed the crowd at the Rowlett, Texas Tea Party and I told them then, our detractors will try to make this about everything that it is not. I told them that we were already being accused of being racists, our detractors saying these Tea Parties were simply sour grapes over Obama winning the presidency.

My statement to our crowd was, this is NOT about race. It’s not. But it sure didn’t take long for my words to come to fruition right here in Texas, words spoken by the Democrats in the Texas House.

Rep. Jim Dunnam of Waco didn’t come right out and say the word racist, but his not so subtle comments regarding Gov. Perry and his words supposedly bringing back thoughts of racial division and the Civil War when the Governor spoke of Texas having the ability to actually leave the Union were not just out of line, they were ridiculous as well.

Secession is NOT the ultimate anti-American statement, secession is quite likely an avenue that could avoid an all out civil war, providing that Obama doesn’t pretend to be Lincoln and launch a war of northern aggression in an effort to preserve the Union.

State Sen. Rodney Ellis, a Houston Democrat, said that by not rejecting the possibility of secession out of hand, Perry “is taking a step down a very dangerous and divisive path encouraged by the fringe of Texas politics.”

The Democrats are proposing a House resolution expressing “complete and total disagreement with any fringe element advocating the ‘secession’ of Texas or any other state from our one and indivisible Union.”

I am not sure where exactly Mr. Ellis comes up with the idea that this is a fringe element movement. I do know this, what is dangerous and divisive is the out of control spending that BOTH political parties of this nation have engaged in. The Democrats AND the Republicans have worked so hard against each other that they don’t realize that they have become one in the same, we have Dem and we have Dem Lite. And BOTH of them are destroying this nation faster than a Texas secession could ever instigate!

The federal government is killing the American tax payer, they are destroying the future of many generations to come. If the USA can be saved and the future of our children assured, that would be marvelous, if not, a free and sovereign Texas is our next best option, and we are NOT a loony political fringe group of Domestic Terrorists. We are true American PATRIOTS and we are tired of the oppression and out of control governance of Washington, D.C.

I posted this same article over on one of Fred’s other post’s and the only thing I can add IS, Dunnam and Ellis should both be replaced when election time rolls around. It’s really simple…..they just don’t care about the state OR the country, just their cushy-ass jobs of trying to tell everybody else what to do.

    Article:
Anybody catch Hannity yesterday? Hannity had that POS Geraldo on there. You know him, he’s the stupid ass reporter that got thrown out of Iraq, the same one that was jeopardizing our troops position via cell phone AFTER he was told NOT TO.

Well, he was on the show telling everyone that Gov. Perry was on the “lunatic” fringe for even suggesting that Texas secede from the union. Shows exactly where he stands huh?
He falls into the Nazi collaborator category as far as I am concerned. Suck-ass Prick I believe would better describe him…………. GO TEXANS!!!!!!!!!

  2. Kate says:

Unfortunately, I actually stayed up and watched the repeat of Hannity and saw that SOB Geraldo spouting his BS. No matter how many time Sean read the statement, the answer was the same. What a twisted little mind that idjit has.

We’ve all been on simmer for quite a while, but eventually the water is going to boil over. I see that time quite soon.

  3. mrchuck says:

Where have all the illegal mexicans and blacks gone to, since this has happened?

    Amazing, simply amazing huh?
I realize that these people vote democratic 100%, or close to it, and at this time, I guess they have nothing to say.
    Their silence tells all.

  4. TexasFred says:

Chuck, their silence attests to their ignorance and/or apathy…

The Dems lead these folks by the nose and then shit all over them, but like the good little sheeples they are, they follow along to the slaughter…

  5. Basti says:

It was a ‘fringe element’ that met the British at Boston Green in 1775 and It was a ‘fringe element American army’ that accepted the British surrender at Yorktown in 1783. Ya got to watch these ‘fringe elements’ they have a way of becoming ‘national movements’.

  6. notoriouslyconservative says:

If Texas does leave the Union, I might consider moving there until we have a capable President in the White House.

  7. TexasFred says:

@ notoriously conservative, you would give up American citizenship for Texas and then *might* decide to go BACK to the USA because they get a better POTUS??

    That is preposterous!

You’re either in or you’re out… Waffles are for RINOs and other assorted bullshit artists!! And as for me and MY opinion, I wouldn’t WANT someone that wasn’t totally dedicated to TEXAS… If that’s a pisser, so be it! This ain’t fun and games and I seriously do NOT appreciate this kind of attitude, we are NOT risking OUR asses, our state and our freedoms so people like you can have the milk and honey that WE fight for and then run off if you perceive a *greener pasture*… 👿

  8. Kate says:

Fred, I’m thinking, even though Texas is HUGE….it’s gonna have to expand. Just make sure it expands through our area of Tennessee. I mean, after all, there was a call for 2800 volunteers to go to Texas, and 30,000 Tennesseans answered the call. 🙂

Although, seriously, if things get bad enough, odds are, we’ll be moving….even if the Mr will melt in the heat.

  9. TexasFred says:

    We DO have A/C you know… 😎

Just as long as you come to be TEXANS, and not USERS, you know it’ll all work out!! 🙂

  10. Kate says:

LMAO Well, you KNOW I’m a Texan. We didn’t have A/C when I was a young’un. I could adapt. Him? Not so sure. Although, to give him credit, he is starting to adjust to the occasional heat here. Heh.

  11. Katie says:

Not if, but when Texas leaves the Union, I will be there. I figure that fighting for Texas’ Freedom is one of the most important things I can do (if you all would have this old airman).

    Go Texas Go!

  12. TexasFred says:

Katie, I am sure that Texas will have MANY great, good and decent Americans that will want to become Texans…

I have NO problem with that at all, UNLESS, it’s some asshole that wants to come here and take, take, take and take some more and then tote their asses back to where they came from IF their political situation changes…

I think anyone reading this comment thread can easily spot WHO I am directing this to, and I will say this and then leave it alone, any son of a bitch that comes here and wants to USE Texas to an advantage, any son of a bitch that comes here to TAKE and not GIVE BACK is no better than the ILLEGAL INVADERS that have done more than their part to bankrupt America, and unlike America, Texans have a way of dealing with these unwanted cretins…

    Swami Fred yet again..?

  14. BobF says:

    Think about something?

A Civil War was fought here to prevent states from succeeding for the Union. Lincoln is hailed as one of the greatest presidents because he prevailed in stopping the states from exercising their rights as individual entities.

Almost 20 years ago, states again started succeeding from the Union. This time, the states were called “Satellite States” and the Union was called the USSR. In this case, the United States strongly supported the succeeding states in as much as possibly intervening militarily if Russia (the North) sent in forces to stop the succession.

What will the reaction of the Union be if Texas does exercise it’s Constitutional right to succeed?

When a governor starts talking succession because of the mess at the Federal level, I don’t think he’s just playing politics. He’s literally putting his career, reputation, and possibly his life on the line.

  15. TexasFred says:

BobF, exactly right.. Some don’t see it that way, but, *some* bitched at ME wanting to know why no one was doing anything, and when they do, they have got to be playing politics…

Some people are NEVER happy, and some people lost a ton of respect from me with their reactions, not you Bob, not at all, but just sayin’…

Somehow, I think a few that comment here, claiming to be, or have been military or *other* areas involved, are not much more than *KEYBOARD COMMANDOS*…
