Thousands march to US Capitol to protest spending

WASHINGTON (AP) - Thousands of people marched to the U.S. Capitol on Saturday, carrying signs with slogans such as “Obamacare makes me sick” as they protested the president’s health care plan and what they say is out-of-control spending.

The line of protesters spread across Pennsylvania Avenue for blocks, all the way to the capitol, according to the D.C. Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency. People were chanting “enough, enough” and “We the People.” Others yelled “You lie, you lie!” and “Pelosi has to go,” referring to California congresswoman Nancy Pelosi.

Demonstrators waved U.S. flags and held signs reading “Go Green Recycle Congress” and “I’m Not Your ATM.” Men wore colonial costumes as they listened to speakers who warned of “judgment day” - Election Day 2010.

Richard Brigle, 57, a Vietnam War veteran and former Teamster, came from Paw Paw, Mich. He said health care needs to be reformed - but not according to President Barack Obama’s plan.

Thousands march to US Capitol to protest spending

Now, all that needs to be done is for the LEADERS of this to actually BE leaders. Don’t let a petty few disrupt this effort. Don’t let a petty few pout because you invited REAL Conservatives to speak at your rallies. Don’t let the pouting process ruin your group.

Mike Pence from the 6th Congressional District of Indiana, and Jim DeMint, Republican Senator from South Carolina are in Washington, at the 912 Rally, and they have been WELL received.

Don’t let gutless leaders take this organization down. Don’t let the ‘busy bodies’ take this organization down. As Glenn Beck said today, “We don’t need to rebuild America, we must RESTORE America.” and that my friends, is the full truth of the matter!

    Amen!!!! Wish I were there.

Glenn also spoke about the need to find those leaders willing to admit that the corruption that has overwhelmed the Congress for years needs to go bye bye. We need leaders who are willing to be the “re-founding fathers” in order to restore our system back to what it was meant to be. The two party system that operates much like it was portrayed in “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” has led us to a corrupt culture on Capitol Hill and needs to go away forever!

My heart and prayers are with those average citizen’s in Washington DC this weekend. God be with them all.

    TF’s motto:
Nowhere is it written that we
    must accept the status quo

“Status quo” is latin for “the mess we’re in.”

There is growining anger all over the land for getting rid of the mess that we are in at this time in Washington. We cannot just throw the present crowd out and replace them with aother bunch with the same sickness of compromise, cowardice, and complaciency. We must make certain that leaders come forward and are accepted that will stand up for smaller government and more individual freedom, etc. We will be watching for them to come forward in the next several months. And they will be looked over very carefully!!!

Gawd damn bunch of rightwing racist SOB’s clogging up DC with all their hate, it’s all because Obama is black I tell you….

Sorry man, I read the LA times this morning…..Whew I’m over it now..

Truthfully I hope the MSM continues to ignore this movement. I hope like hell they keep deflating the numbers (Just like they INFLATED the numbers when its a lefty protest) I hope the crooks in suits keep thinking this will pass….What they fail to see is for every 1 person in DC or Texas or anywhere else the tea party express is, there are thousands of folks that support that cause. Thousands of people at home for every one at the events…Do the math, that equals the largest swing of a party out of power in the history of our nation is coming. BUT the RINO’s need to beware as well, their time is limited…We are going to see a slingshot to the right, not the GWB right, but the RIGHT of the constitution, the RIGHT of our freedoms being brought back or fought back the choice is theirs..

Keep up the fight Fred, Even though some of us have dropped our blogging time it doesn’t mean we have forgotten the importance of what you/we/all of us do and have done. There is a lot of work left, never let up!

Fellow blogger Steve at Common Cents was there today with his wife. He has some pictures and a video posted. According to the Mail Online there were 2 Million people there.

The Two Million Mob March, hee hee

How did the Rowlett Tea Party go? I don’t know if my wife’s son made it or not.

The leaders of this movement need to keep the RINO’s from infiltrating their ranks. RINO’s will look upon this as a way to get reelected because they know their days are numbered.

Theodore’s World has some good video’s of the Washington Protest posted.

2 Million Plus at September 12th March on Washington D.C. Can You Hear Us NOW????

  8. comment number 8 by: TexasFred

Well Bob, I didn’t attend the TEA Party here today.

The leaders of the Rowlett TEA Party need to grow a set, they HAVE been infiltrated by, not necessarily RINOs, but a couple of pouty old bats that have been terrible disruptions.

The president of the Rowlett TEA Party is, to be as kind as possible, less than effective as a leader.

I resigned from the board 10 days ago for the reasons stated above and several more that are likely best left alone. They are at that *sink or swim* juncture, and I am NOT going to waste my time attending a little old ladies social club and bitch fest…

There’s work to do, battles to be fought and asses to be kicked, the extreme political correctness of the Rowlett TEA Party and a few of it’s board members won’t get the job done, but there are other groups and organizations that are in need of an old hard-assed, totally un-PC son of a bitch like me, and this fight to save America is just getting started…

And America will NOT be saved by a bunch of whiny, PC old ladies that use the organizational meetings as their weekly excuse to get away from *The Home*…

“an old hard-assed, totally un-PC son of a bitch like me”

An impressive resume there TF. Let me know if you need a reference on that one!!! :-)

I think I scare the hooey out of PC Old Ladies… I wonder why???

  10. comment number 10 by: TexasFred

And those are my GOOD points!! :P

  11. comment number 11 by: HoosierArmyMom

Don’t tell me what your bad points are TF. I don’t think anyone in America is ready for that!!! It is just good to know a man who know how to express a flaming red one when he get’s his dander up!!!!

  12. comment number 12 by: Mr Pink Eyes

Two million people marching on Washington should be enough to make these politicians realize that we mean business and that we are not just a fringe group of racist right wing nuts. We oppose big government and are trying to do something about it. We are being heard from, the politicians had better be listening.
I only wish that I could have been there.

  13. comment number 13 by: TexasFred

There is one BIG question that must be addressed…

    WHAT’S NEXT?

Don’t let this momentum just go *dead in the water*, the fire is burning, 1.5 to 2 MILLION people answered the call in D.C., imagine how many more there are that just couldn’t be there…

  14. comment number 14 by: Silver Fox

To be quite honest, at first I thought the Tea Parties would accomplish little. On very rare occasions I can be wrong! Fred you are correct in that the momentum must be maintained—when you have them on the run………..

  15. comment number 15 by: TexasFred

OK, the numbers are still wide apart, some say 60K, and that’s a crock, libber numbers, some said 2.8 MILLION, I somehow doubt that, the National Parks folks estimate 1.2 million, and I am thinking that may be about as accurate as we get..

For the sake of argument, let’s assume it was 1.2. million, say that represents 1% of ALL really pissed off Americans… Suppose there are even more than that… 1.2 million IN DC may well represent 120-150 million very unhappy Americans…

Leadership is the key now, strength and resolve… This is NOT a time for *weak sister* PC words, apologies and the like… This is nothing but the beginning, and if done right there will be a Conservative wave in 2010 and again in 2012 like none before…

But here is the fly in the ointment… IF the GOP doesn’t get with the program, they will be left behind by REAL Conservative… GOP leaders are looking at the numbers right now and are deciding just HOW to pander to this crowd, bet on it…

Beware the people that only seek to disrupt, beware the posers, beware the RINOs…

  16. comment number 16 by: Silver Fox

I like your numbers Fred and your extrapolation, at times a fools errand, but this time I tend to agree with your conclusions. There is an opening here and gains to be made, and as an old-timer might say, “strike while the iron is hot”.

  17. comment number 17 by: HoosierArmyMom

Check your email Fred… just sent you an ariel photo of the march in DC and it took my breath away!!!

I’m with you all, it is not time to let up one little bit. I intend to send messages to both Evan Bayh and Richard Lugar (Hoosier Rhino) daily telling them that they need to say NO to ObamaCare and Crap n Trade or start updating their resume. I also belong to some groups where they are vetting people who want to run in 2010 and I’m going to follow that closely.

I will be watching Glenn Beck tomorrow to see what he is suggesting as well. I withhold any judgments till I check out what he has to say, I think.

  18. comment number 18 by: Silver Fox

I would like to see that ariel photo too, HAM!

Awesome HAM, I can tell you one thing. That was way more than 60K!

I was at the D.C. 9/12 march on Saturday. I arrived at Union Station at 3:00 AM to meet a fellow patriot coming from NYC. Ever since yesterday, I’ve been posting — including two photo essays based on pictures my husband and I took.

I am absolutely astounded at how the actual numbers of participants are being lowballed by all the media. And, of course, we patriots from Saturday are being slimed as racists.

    Very discouraging.

    And enraging.

There was one main theme at the march: “We are fed up with this administration.” There were also some who had voted for BHO and now regretted doing so as his idea of change is abrogating the Constitution. Surprise! Not.

At one point on Saturday (not sure of the time), a helicopter flew over those of us assembled on and around Capitol Hill. I can’t say for sure, but I think that helicopter was carrying BHO up to Minnesota.

Always on watch if it was Obama—he didn’t see you. He is like the fake blind man sitting on the corner with his cup of pencils, he sees only those who put money in his cup!

  23. comment number 23 by: Robert

Always on Watch was with me, BigDog and 30k (Park service estimates) other patriots at the GOE1, but according to the MSM there were only 5-10K of us, but there were many thousands anti-war protesters… So I am not surprised by the MSM’s low ball figures…

You want to see the opposite of MSM number deflation? Wait till the libturds do their march in the near future…

Oh yeah, everyone that attended any tea party protest, or call the president a liar or basically oppose anything ACORN or Obama is now racist… This has been a public service announcement….

  24. comment number 24 by: Gregory Badger

My wife and I were fortunate to be at this rally. Today I get an email that says this…

It is clear that if you have voiced opposition to government-run health care and higher taxes, Obama and the Democrat Party have not listened to a word you have said, nor do they care. They will flat out tell you that you are wrong, that the Democrats won the election, and the Democrats will get what they want, including Obamacare. This is what Obama’s Senior Adviser David Axelrod had to say this morning…

White House senior adviser David Axelrod told Face the Nation this morning (Sunday, 9/13/2009) about the taxpayer protests this weekend: “I don’t think it’s indicative of the nation’s mood. In fact, I don’t believe some of the angriest, most strident voices we saw during the summer were representative of the thousands of town-hall meetings that went on around the country that came off peacefully, that were constructive, people voicing their points of view. I don’t think we ought to be distracted by that. My message to them is: They’re wrong.”

Then this is what Mark Steyn had to say about the current status of health care legislation:

“My sense from Wednesday’s speech is that the president’s gonna shove this through in some form or other. It may cause a little temporary pain in Blue Dog districts in 2010, but the long-term gains will be transformative and irreversible.” - Mark Steyn

    Irreversible?

I contend this is more sinister than Hitler ever was.

While at the rally, I thought, “Maybe things will start to turn around now.”

Today, two days later, I have my doubts.

The media have so downplayed what happened on Saturday and how fed up many of us are with this administration of a mere eight months.

Virginia has elections this November. If the results go to the Dems, I fear what the outcome of the 2010 midterm elections will be.

  26. comment number 26 by: Gregory Badger

    Always On Watch,

CBHO (C = Comrade) is manipulated by sorry George Soros. CBHO said today that the real backers of health care are too busy doing their ordinary life things that they don’t have time to protest (not exact words but how I interpret his similar statement).

    Clever.

You should see we are up against pure evil.

Our last book study was “Rules for Radicals.” Every tactic they are using is right out of this playbook. And thhe book is dedicated to Lucifer.

My best suggestion to fight back starts with 2 Chronicles 7:14
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

    Then stand up and fight.
