Senate Moderates Could Pose Problems for Reid on Health Care

A handful of centrist Senate Democrats, along with moderate Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe, could pose a major problem for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid as he tries to pull health care reform legislation to the floor.

Snowe, in concert with Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., has for weeks held meetings with a group of five or six moderates, including Sens. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn.; Mary Landrieu, D-La.; Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark.; and, at times, Susan Collins, R-Maine.

They do not all appear to hold the same view on health care reform. But several members of this group have expressed concern with the possibility that a government-run insurance plan could emerge from closed-door talks in the majority leader’s office — though they are not outright opposed to a public plan.

And they are very aware that a procedural motion known as “cloture” — which requires 60 votes to bring legislation to the floor — could be their best opportunity to stop any bill they find objectionable.

And it looks like someone actually did the right thing.

So the word was that Democratic leaders worried about the health of Democratic Senate President Pro Tempore Robert C. Byrd, whom they needed as a 60th vote to end any Republican filibuster.

On Wednesday, Byrd voted against cloture — meaning he sided with the Republican filibuster.

He was not alone.

In all, 12 Democratic senators and Joe Lieberman and every single Republican (yes, Senator Olympia Snowe voted against cloture) as Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid was humiliated.

Byrd stops Obamacare

I just LOVE this part: Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid was humiliated.

The Obamessiah and his minions have a growing list of enemies, and a shrinking approval rating, even among their fellow Democrats. That speaks volumes of how WRONG Obama and Company are, and only the most VILE libber could possibly stand and support this socialist BS called Obamacare.

This ObamaCare, Cap and Trade, the bail outs, everything that Obama and Company have done, so far, is as wrong as wrong can be, and will surely take America further into the abyss of 3rd World misery. One where no one is protected and everyone is too broke to BUY any for of health care, from ANY source.

There’s a lot of things that can be said against Robert Byrd, and yes, most, if not all would be true, but Byrd is that OLD STYLE Democrat, from back in the day when being a Democrat didn’t mean you were a bleeding heart, abortion loving, faggot supporting libber. Byrd may have at least one good fight left in him, I certainly hope so. It appears that this time he may be fighting for what’s RIGHT!

One thing I do disagree with, calling Sen. Olympia Snowe a Republican or a moderate is a stretch in anyone’s imagination. Snowe is a RINO at best, and a lot closer to the being an in the closet, stealth Dem/Libber.

I like the part about a growing enemies list and a shrinking friends list-suppose the two go hand and hand. Senator Byrd is the very last of the old Democrats in the Senate. I doubt if arm-twisting in the Oval Office will have any effect on this old fossil and for that alone you must give him his due. I never really know what to think of this man.

Obama will have a rough time getting all his ducks in a row on this one. I’m not a supporter of Mary Landrieu, but know her to be no push over in that respect she is a chip off the old block, Moon Landrieu. Louisiana politics can be confusing to an outsider.

It not only humiliated that rat bastard but his muslim turd suckin dickweed buddy as well.heh heh heh. Yup, the “byrd” is of the old school and he still believes in our country. He is the kind of democrat that was around when my mom and dad were democrats, He’ll be missed when he’s gone and I can’t, and won’t, say the same about
the axis of evil. Reid first, then pisslousy, then the muslim fraud.
Then, maybe America can start to mend when WE THE PEOPLE put
our elected representatives in office to rebuild this country’s greatness again. We can do this with the chant…… “NEVER AGAIN”

Byrd also called for the Czar-ships to end. Of course, he was protecting his turf there, but it was the right thing to do. It accomplished nothing, however.

I count on Olympia Snowe voting for whatever the Democrats want - no matter what she says. I hope she will prove me wrong.

It is a good day when headlines talk openly about Reid’s “humiliation.”
Now we need him to stay at home after this term.

It’s a start. Reid does a whiz bang job of humiliating himself, IMHO, but it’s nice to see him get a dose of taking it in the backside. I think you have a good point. Everyday Obama and his minions are making more people on both sides of the aisle worry more as his approval rating plummets. I’m not a fan of Dick Cheney but he did a good job of reaming Obama for “playing politics” with our troops well being! I think Obama’s arrogance is starting to get him in trouble with people who naively voted for him.

The one thing that I have read about Byrd is that he is a strict constitutionalist, he raised questions about the constitutionality of Hillary’s nomination as well.

Uh-oh. Things are starting to fall apart for Our Hero.

And his poll numbers? Some of the worst in 50 years for a new president??

How could THAT be?? He’s THE ONE.
