Ala. Dem defects to GOP over health care, policy

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Freshman Democratic U.S. Rep. Parker Griffith announced Tuesday he is switching to the GOP, another blow to Democrats facing a potentially tough midterm election.

Griffith spoke to reporters at his home in northern Alabama, a region that relies heavily on defense and aerospace jobs.

“I believe our nation is at a crossroads and I can no longer align myself with a party that continues to pursue legislation that is bad for our country, hurts our economy, and drives us further and further into debt,” Griffith said as his wife Virginia stood by his side.

The 67-year-old radiation oncologist was narrowly elected last year in a district that includes Huntsville and Decatur. President Barack Obama lost badly there to Republican John McCain.

I want to show you what a man of principle looks like!

U.S. Rep. Parker Griffith

Congressman Griffith took a stand with the RIGHT side of America today, and he is to be commended for taking that stand.

I am certain that there are many Democrats just like him. Men and women of principle, folks that are Conservatives in reality but have stood as Democrats for decades. The debacle that is called Obamacare has brought this nation to a heightened sense of awareness and a state of political division not seen since before the War of Northern aggression.

Griffith also slammed the health care overhaul making its way through Congress. He was one of 39 House Democrats to vote against a version of the bill that narrowly passed.

“I want to make it perfectly clear that this bill is bad for our doctors,” he said Tuesday. “It’s bad for our patients. It’s bad for the young men and women who are considering going into the health care field.”

To add even more, this bill is bad for America as a whole. It is DEATH for American seniors and those on Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security disability! Obamacare debacle nothing less than a disaster for everyone in the United States. Thank God some of the Democrats are opening their eyes and seeing it, and Obama for what he truly is!

He said after the press conference that his defection had nothing to do with concerns about whether he could win re-election as a Democrat. He also said he had not talked to any fellow Democrats about switching parties along with him.

“If they do, I hope it’s on conviction and not politics,” he said.

It’s about time that those that inhabit the hallowed halls of Congress took the same stand too!

This is NOT about politics, it’s not about Dem vs GOP, Conservative vs Liberals, this is about the basic difference between RIGHT AND WRONG. Nothing less. This is about the very future of the USA as a FREE nation. This is about the citizens of the USA having a bill forced upon them by a Socialist controlled Senate and Congress, headed by a wannabe dictator. This is about the direction America will be taking for the next 100 years!

Griffith had accumulated one of the most conservative voting records of any House Democrat. He was one of seven Democrats to oppose Obama’s economic stimulus measure early this year and also voted against an anti-global warming bill pushed strongly by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

This, in and of itself makes me look very favorably upon Congressman Griffith. I am 100% certain that Nancy Pelosi is over her boiling cauldron right now, casting a spell against him as she looses the *flying monkeys* to wreak havoc upon him and his family!

Democrats will hold 257 House seats to the GOP’s 178 after Griffith’s switch.

Well, come 2010, that’s going to change too. With ANY luck, Reid will be gone from the Senate and Pelosi will be gone from the Congress. Even if the idiots in the Bay Area DO vote that witch back in, after 2010 the Dems will NOT have a hold on Congress and Pelosi will NOT be Speaker of the House any longer.

2010 can’t get here a moment too soon!

I just read over at the Lonely Conservative, that DeMint is calling for a vote on the Constitutionality of the health care bill. It seems some of these guys are finally starting to question this, and finding this crap is unAmerican. I’m trying to contain my excitement, they’ve let me down before, but still….

I thought for a while Nelson might switch with all the pressure he was under. But he caved. I guess money was more important than babies in his book.

Watch as Nov 2010 get closer. I feel like there will be more Blue Dogs bailing out.

An interesting side-note. - Wikipedia changed Griffith from ‘member’ to ‘former member’ almost before it was announced: The Blue Dog Coalition

Fred, According to a fellow on Hannity last night, he was saying that, for the 2010 elections there is a TSUNAMI heading for the democrooks and it is HUGE and I mean HUGE. To put it simply, the names have been bookmarked and they are going to find out just what it feels like to get their asses handed to them and it’ll be a very long long time before they try their crooked politics again.

I really think the peoples eyes (most of ‘em anyway) have been opened and they are now feeling remorse for electing this garbage that’s tearing our country to pieces along with this political correctness horse shit. They are lucky in a way that it is 2010, because if Teddy Roosevelt was here he’d have their asses hung for treason. It’s still not a bad idea because it’d make the rest of ‘em set up and take notice.

Glad to see this small win. I’ve always believed that victory often comes after a severe defeat. History has many examples “remember the Alamo”. One does have to admire congressman Griffith—either a man of principle or just looking out for his own hide! I choose to believe the former. As for the constitutionality of this bill, I’ve seen so many things done over my many years that seemed to violate the 10th amendment, that I’ve almost given up complaining about it. Maybe this time other will help. I believe DeMint is basically a good senator, but he may fool me tomorrow.

He’s still a democrook though Fred. Wonder if he’s just trying to get ahead of the Tsunami that’s coming so he can still keep his cushy job? I think it’d be great if the other 38 would switch parties too. Wouldn’t that twist pisslousi’s panty’s in a knot though? LMFAO

Vigilante, I am going to have to disagree with you here, he has made his declaration. Until he proves himself to be less than honorable, I am willing to take him at his word…

If he screws up and goes back on that word, I am all for hanging the bastard!

All the Judas’s in the Demonrat Party that took their 30 pieces of silver before voting Yay have signed their own Pink Slip!!!! I have never seen so many angry people in my life… AND THEY SHOULD BE!!! The funny thing is the idiot that writes the Daily Kosack is turning on Obama (naturally he hasn’t pushed hard enough for Universal Health Care aka “Commie Health”, and by sending troops to Afghanistan! Poor baby… whine and cry shilling Commie Libber!!!!). By the time Obooboo is done, the Demonrat Party should be good and split up!!!!

Vigilante, in the late 60′s many “Southern Dems” changed parties over the Dem push for entitlements, etc. Southern Dems tend to be pretty conservative at their core. I know this because my mother was a lifetime Democrat, Christian, Southerner and Conservative as she could be! I was a dedicated, dyed in the wool Dem up until the Clinton’s showed me that the party was taken over by nuts!!!! So I agree with Fred, if the Alabama Senator starts affiliating with Senate Republicans and Independents, he will probably end up being a diamond in the rough and a thinking man when it’s all said and done.

There’s a Stop ObamaCare petition at the Patriot Post for all who are interested. My thoughts are we can’t stop now!

I expect to see more of these as the election draws near.

Thanks, HoosierArmyMom, I signed that one just now. I feel all I’ve done the last few months is call, fax, email and sign petitions. The next three years will require constant vigilance, even if the Republicans gain majority in ’10.

It looks like the Democrats are going to loose big in 2010 but we have to be concerned who replaces them. Just because a person has an “R” after their name doesn’t mean a hill of beans. A RINO can do just as much, if not more, damage than a Democrat. Remember, a Democrat is the enemy we can see and face but a RINO is the enemy within the camp.

I agree with Vigilante……some of them need to be hanged for treason right at the top of the Capital Building steps!!!

We will indeed have to keep our powder dry in 2010…..can Not take our eyes off them for a second!!! We’ll also have to keep and eye on ACORN and SEIU and all th others who would do their skulduggery during the 2010 election cycle. I do believe that given half a chance “We the People” will overwhelmingly vote them out. It’ll just have to be a large enough margin so the ‘human dung’ that will try to stuff the ballot box, etc., will NOT be successful!

It’s either that or lock and load gentlemen!!

    Keep You Powder Dry!

It’s really simple, take them at their word and hold their feet to the fire, if they turn out to be RINOs, hang em, and make damned sure they KNOW that if they turn RINO, they will be hung…

Problem solved, and we find out who is real and who is a poser…

While this doesn’t change anything in the House- he already was voting with the Republicans- it does illustrate the rift that is growing in the Democrat party. The man who was supposed to unite a nations has splintered his own party.

Well that is neat. I will send a personal letter of congratulation to the Rep. He shows common sense. I mean he must be against Socialism because the Health Care Bill being shoved somwhere in our anatomy is certainly that. In addition it is reckless spending and fiscal irresponsibility. They no longer represent the people.

Vote in November and vote before that in your primary. We need change we can believe in and we aint got it yet.
