Obama vows to use power to thwart terrorists

HONOLULU (AP) - President Barack Obama on Monday vowed to use “every element of our national power” to keep Americans safe and said the failed Christmas Day plot to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner was “a serious reminder” of the need to continually adapt security measures against changing terrorist threats.

But even as Obama spoke, word came that a State Department warning had failed to trigger an effort to revoke the alleged attacker’s visa. And officials in Yemen confirmed that the would-be bomber had been living in that country, where terrorist elements quickly sought to take credit for his actions.

The incident prompted stiffer airport boarding measures and authorities warned holiday travelers to expect extra delays as they return home this week and beyond.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, charged with trying to destroy an aircraft, is being held at the federal prison in Milan, Mich. A court hearing that had been scheduled for Monday to determine whether the government can get DNA from him was postponed until Jan. 8. No reason was given.

Obama vows to use power to thwart terrorists

In the now famous words of Rep. Joe Wilson:

YOU LIE!

Unlike Joe Wilson, I am not going to jump through hoops so I can immediately apologize to Barack Hussein Obama, Nancy Pelosi and the most disingenuous group that this nation has ever had sit in the halls of the United States Congress.

Calling Abdulmutallab’s action an “attempted act of terrorism” Obama vowed to “do everything that we can to keep America safe” and declared: “The United States will more than simply strengthen our defenses. We will continue to use every element of our national power to disrupt, to dismantle and defeat the violent extremists who threaten us.”

I am seriously surprised that Obama used the term “attempted act of terrorism“, I honestly did NOT think he would call the actions of his Muslim brother an “attempted act of terrorism“. I am of the opinion that some of his advisers told him that right about now was a good time to grow a set, because the American people are sick and tired of this “overseas contingency operation” B.S. and all of the political correctness that it employs!

Members of Congress, meanwhile, questioned how a man flagged as a possible terrorist managed to board a commercial flight into the United States carrying powerful explosives and nearly bring down the jetliner. Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., said Monday that the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee that he chairs would hold hearings in January.

Oh, Congress is looking into it! And Joe LIEberman is the chairman. How reassuring… :?

Obama, on vacation in his birthplace of Hawaii, acknowledged the attack showed the need to increase the United States’ defenses. He detailed the pair of reviews that he has ordered to determine whether changes are needed in either the watchlist system or airport screening procedures.

Isn’t it nice how the AP is so fair and balanced in their reporting? And so obviously NOT in the tank for Obama. I mean, they felt the need to stress ‘his birthplace of Hawaii’?

Nope, no way is the MSM in the tank for Obama, no favoritism here folks.

Obama’s remarks Monday were the first heard from him on the Christmas Day scare three days earlier.

Not to stir the pot, BUT, when 9-11 occurred, there was about 3 hours that passed between the attacks and the 1st statements by George W. Bush. The Libbers called Bush the most pathetic and ineffective president ever, because it took him 3 hours to make his initial address to the nation.

If that 3 hour delay, caused mostly by the Secret Service moving the POTUS to a secure location, Barksdale AFB, made George W. Bush a terrible leader, what, exactly, does a 3 day delay on the part of Barack Hussein Obama say about him, his leadership and his love of this nation? Especially when that 3 days of silence was when he was on vacation in Hawaii?

It’s pretty obvious where the Obama priorities lie I believe.

Officials said that was deliberate - an effort by the White House to balance the need for the president to show concern but also to not unduly elevate a botched incident and thereby encourage other would-be attackers.

Uh, yeah, sure, OK, whatever you say guys…

Barack Hussein Obama’s silence is something this nation has never heard. Obama is the biggest media whore to EVER inhabit the White House. The man is in love with his voice and he loves to mug for the camera. To say that Obama not speaking to this incident was ‘deliberate‘ is just one more reason that I am fully convinced that the Obama administration is the most incompetent in U.S. history!

The system has failed, and now that the horse is out of the barn, the so-called counter-terrorism experts are going to spin some kind of acceptable excuse to placate the apathetic masses.

Obama and Company, DHS, Napolitano, et al, have dropped the ball, but they are convinced that the American people are too brain dead to notice. Sadly, as I look at the reactions from many in this nation, I have to admit, Obama and Company may be correct.

Gee, they should have said his “alleged birthplace of Hawaii”.

Also the State Department (Hillary) dropped the ball as this guy should have never been issued a visa.

Hey Fred, we’ve got SCUM in the White House; what else can you expect?

I was actually surprised he managed to get the word “terror” out of his mouth. Suppose he’s coming to the realization that some few are beginning to take note of his lack of attention to this issue. But as I read on another blog this “Lawyer-in-Chief” sounded more like an attorney during his statement than the president of the U S. Using such words as alleged and suspect—suspect my ass, give me a break. He still refused to connect terrorism to Islam. Guess I should have expected this from this muslim loving bastard.

Political correctness has blinded the state department and the white house to the real threat we face. They are afraid of offending muslims and will do everything to avoid confronting the issue. Seems like the only way to get Obama’s attention is for some jihadist to drop a big one down the White House chimmey!

Silver Fox, when the words *alleged* and *suspect* came out of his mouth I was SCREAMING at the television…

That disingenuous son of a bitch is nothing less than a disgrace to ALL of America!

“every element of our national power?

He wasn’t lying Fred… he was speaking directly to electricity needed to operate the lights that reveal the chicken-heart liberals that will run away with their tails between their legs.

    Now that’s power!

    Pathetic…

About like the initial response that Carter had when the crap in Tehran went down. Both epic failures… Both, reflections of the men…

Until this nation wises up and starts to do REAL security at airports, expect to see more acts of terror.

    Some REAL steps are:

    1. Profile. 90% of all hijackers since 1965 have been Muslim men between the ages 18-50.

    2. Hire educated people to do security. Especially those with a background in psychology and military experience. Today’s security personal at airports have criminal records, don’t speak English, and never finished High School.

    Just 2 steps.

Katie, you’d THINK that our government would actually DO all of that, but, being the anti-American asses that they are turning out to be, guess not..

    You know what insults me?

    2 things.
    1. Some 23 year old punk who attends one of the best colleges in the world and who’s father is a Senior Nigerian Official decides to blow up 278 of my fellow countrymen for no other reason than they happen to be on the same flight as him, most returning to celebrate one of 2 holidays that reflect the predominant religious belief in this country, and
    2. The fact that our idiot president doesn’t have the brains or the balls to link this punk terrorist to the main group that declared war on the United States in 1996 (even though they are claiming total responsibility), calling him “an extremist” without mentioning Islam, and not informing us that two of the masterminds behind this attack were previously held at Gitmo.

There are hundreds of religions that exist on this planet, but only one that has been responsible for thousands of deaths not only in the United States, but around the world. And until the ‘good Muslims’ stand up and defy the ‘extremists’, they all get grouped together.

So, no, I won’t worry about insulting or offending any Sheethead that identifies himself with said religion of peace.

I too was shocked when Obama used the word ‘ Terrorism ‘ , but what was more shocking than that was the fact that he used the word ‘ We ‘ when he vowed will do everything we could to keep America safe. It’s one of the few times, if not, the only time he didn’t say ‘ I ‘ will do something. Do you think he has finally learned we are getting sick and tired of his ‘ I can do ‘ ???…or is this just an effort to take some of the heat off of him when more things fail???

Obama took three days to come out with a statement on the attack while his administration tried to figure out how to spin it. This man is not serious about national security and he does not think that terrorism is a legitimate concern. This man is incompetent, but worse than that, he is dangerous. He is making America less safe because he is weak.

There he goes again, talking out his rear. No one believes him anymore. This is going to be his Katrina moment.
