Jobs picture dims as unemployment claims rise
WASHINGTON (AP) - The employment picture is looking bleaker as applications for jobless benefits rose last week to the highest level in almost six months.
It’s a sign that hiring is weak and employers are still cutting their staffs.
First-time claims for jobless benefits edged up by 2,000 to a seasonally adjusted 484,000, the Labor Department said Thursday. Analysts had expected a drop. That’s the highest total since February.
Initial claims have now risen in three of the last four weeks and are close to their high point for the year of 490,000, reached in late January. The four-week average, which smooths volatility, soared by 14,250 to 473,500, also the highest since late February.

Unemployment is climbing? Seriously?
Of course it’s climbing, and the Fed knew it was going to climb! Many political and financial writers and bloggers have said so for quite some time now.
The Census put a lot of unemployed folks back to work, folks that needed jobs, folks that wanted jobs, folks that were drawing unemployment benefits, or had exhausted their benefits and were in a desperate situation.
When unemployment numbers dropped recently, 1st time claims that is, the Obama regime was singing it’s own praises, telling Americans that the worst was over and that The Obamessiah had saved America from the evil GOP and the TEA Party people.
Obama himself touted the signs of recovery. New unemployment numbers were down, the DOW was up, NASDAQ was up, Standards and Poors was up, and then, BOOM, they were down.
But it was all the fault of George W. Bush, so says The Obamessiah!
George W. Bush hasn’t been POTUS for over 1 1/2 years, the GOP hasn’t had control of Congress or the Senate for over 3 1/2 years, but ALL of the ills this nation suffers are the fault of Bush, Dick Cheney and Halliburton, because everyone on the LEFT knows, with ALL certainty, Cheney and Halliburton run America from a secret underground bunker in some mountain out west somewhere. Somewhere…

Stocks fall after Cisco earnings, jobless data
NEW YORK (AP) - Stocks fell for a third day Thursday as more disappointing earnings and economic news flowed in.
Trading was quiet after the previous day’s big drop. The Dow Jones industrial average, down more than 100 points in the first few minutes of Thursday’s trading, recovered to a loss of about 55. But analysts, noting that the market has entered the dog days of summer, weren’t attaching much significance to the partial comeback.
Stocks fell after the Labor Department reported that the number of people filing for unemployment benefits for the first time rose last week to 484,000. The gain was small at 2,000, but economists had expected the number to drop. The news pointed to continuing weakness in the labor market, yet another sign that the economic recovery is weakening.
The latest earnings reports added to the market’s darkening view of the economy. Cisco Systems Inc.’s revenue from its latest quarter and its forecast for future revenue both fell short of analysts’ expectations. The company’s stock fell about 10 percent and other tech stocks also fell.

Besides - you know darned tootin’ well this is all Bush’s fault. His failed policies during his 8 years where this country prospered, unemployment was low, personal incomes were high, revenues to the government hit record highs - it was all his fault that the Dems came in and started tanking everything in 2007.

I am sure that everyone that comments here have read the testomonies of quite a few people that worked in all those tens of thousands of TEMP jobs created by the census bureau. Hundreds of testimonies from people who were hired and trained and then fired and hired and trained again over and over in order the hirings could all be counted as new jobs created. Truely, this is Obama’s economy, his alone.
The money Obama’s wife spent going to Spain would have put quite a lot of food on a lot of the unemployed “poor folk’s” table in south side Chicago. Hopefully they will remember that in November. Most likely though they will still vote against GW Bush.
