WASHINGTON — Administration officials say that President Obama, largely silent about gun control since the Tucson shooting carnage, will address the issue soon, potentially reopening a long-dormant debate on one of the nation’s most politically volatile issues.
The officials did not indicate what measures, if any, Mr. Obama might support; with Republicans in control of the House and many Democrats fearful of the gun lobby’s power, any legislation faces long odds for passage. Among the skeptics is the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada.
Still, Mr. Obama has come under increased pressure to speak out from gun-control advocates, including urban Democrats in Congress and liberal activists and editorial writers. They would like him to at least support a bill that would restore an expired federal ban on the sort of high-capacity ammunition magazine that was used in the Jan. 8 shootings in Tucson that killed six people and injured 13, including Representative Gabrielle Giffords, Democrat of Arizona.
The advocates, including Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg of New York, were critical after Mr. Obama did not propose any measures in his State of the Union address Tuesday night to address gun violence. In interviews since, senior White House advisers have said without specifics that Mr. Obama would address the issue in coming weeks, though just how has not been decided.

President Is Likely to Discuss Gun Control Soon
Gun control is about to be a hot topic again I fear.
It seems that every time a mentally deficient person goes off on a tangent and kills any number of people, we, the America gun owner, are once again forced to defend ourselves and our love affair with firearms.
On the other side of the globe, the world is at war, Iran, Tunisia, Egypt, Iraq, Afghanistan and Sudan. Venezuela is on the verge of erupting. We have horrendous violence all along our border with Mexico and because a psycho goes nuts in Arizona, the American president and Dems in Congress want us ALL disarmed.

Nearly all of my friends, family, readers and associates are gun owners and users. We all hear a lot of horror stories about guns and how they are going to be taken away from Americans.
So, ask yourself this; Just how much can the ~Gun Grabbers~ really do?
The U.S. government is NOT going to do any such thing, they may TRY, Obama may give orders, but they do NOT have the power to take our guns. I mean MAN POWER. No matter what laws that may be passed, no matter the wishes of the liberal left and the bleeding heart gun grabbers, I believe we’re pretty safe.
The BATF, and the U.S. government can’t get their act together enough to stop guns from going OUT of, or coming IN TO, the USA. The full military might of America has yet to pacify Iraq and Afghanistan.
So, other than run their heads, look stupid and scare simple-minded people, just how much do the gun grabbers really think they can do against a determined force of American gun owners? Just what exactly, can they actually accomplish?
How many gun owners are there in the United States of America?
Most estimates range between 39% and 50% of US households having at least one gun (that’s about 43-55 million households). The estimates for the number of privately owned guns range from 190 million to 300 million. Removed those that skew the stats for their own purposes the best estimates are about 45% or 52 million of American households owning 260 million guns). SOURCE
Approximately half of the homes in America are gun owners according to that little statistic. I am guessing that this is a conservative estimate.
Given the fact that many of those households are at least *2 person homes*, and assuming that they are quite likely to have more than one gun per household, I would say again, that these are very conservative figures.
Suppose the current Attorney General were to issue an edict ordering ALL Americans to turn in their guns? Suppose Obama was able to find a way to force our lawmakers into reinstating the Assault Weapons Ban? Suppose Obama decide to enter a period of Totalitarianism and take full control of the citizens of this nation via executive order?
Who is going to enforce his edicts? The BATF?? The FBI?? Maybe the Army or the National Guard? Maybe State, County/Parish or Local police??
I wouldn’t put it past the FBI or BATF to try, they are nothing more than Federal automatons anyway. They will blindly follow the orders of Obama and sacrifice themselves in the process.
The U.S. Army and National Guard, as well as our police forces, are made up of regular, every day *Joe’s* and *Jane’s*, folks just like you and me. They work, they live, they have families, they pay taxes and they are just all around folks. Most of them are *sport* shooters. Many of them are hunters. Many of them have friends and families that are shooters and hunters, people that are simply *sportsmen*.
I have absolutely NO faith of any kind when it comes to the depravity of our federal government and their minions in suits at the various Alphabet Agencies! None!
I do, on the other hand, have great faith in our soldiers and police officers, and their desire to stand by the American people, their homes, their families and friends! I do have the greatest confidence that they will honor their oath to ‘defend against ALL enemies, both foreign AND domestic’. I have total faith that our troops and law enforcement personnel will easily recognize the enemies of this nation for exactly WHO, and WHAT they are.
But suppose they don’t? What are they going to do with roughly 100 MILLION Americans that are gun owners and users? People that have absolutely NO intention of giving those weapons up? As our forefathers said in their day, “Live FREE or DIE”, “We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately” and more recently, “Death before dishonor”.
The time is rapidly approaching America. Do we sit idly by? Do we engage in some pacifist type of peaceful protest in support of the 2nd Amendment by sacrificing ourselves to the fools on point in D.C. as we show our unarmed support for the Second Amendment? Or do we stand as FREE men and women, and fight for our freedom once again? Fight against those that DO intend on disarming this nation and taking us from being citizens to subjects?
My personal view is this: ‘I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death’, and given the fact that our military has taken so long to almost pacify Iraq, and has yet to pacify Afghanistan, nations approximately the size of Texas, if WE, The People don’t lay down and roll over, if WE, The People don’t willingly lay down our guns, HOW IN THE HELL is any of this going to happen to the gun owners of the U.S.A.?
The asshats in D.C. need to remember who they work for, We, The People put them in office, We, The People can damn sure remove them from office too!
These are serious points to ponder and I hope this post generates much thought and many comments!
And for the record, GUNS are not evil nor bad. PEOPLE can be evil and bad. Guns are inanimate objects and cause harm to no one. My guns didn’t run out the door and shoot ANYONE today, and again, for the record, an ARMED man took his wife to dinner on Saturday night, and then they both walked through a public store, fully armed, and no one was harmed.
Leave my guns alone, leave American gun owners alone, or suffer the wrath of the American gun owner and our many supporters in Law Enforcement and the Military.

Well I am less optimistic that you Fred, I see what die hard gun grabbers can do to a population. No they haven’t disarmed us (YET) but they have limited our ability to obtain firearms and to purchase the ammo need. They have seen fit to limit the amount of ammo we can have in the magazine and I fear soon they will limit the load and projectile.
The gun grabbers are on a mission, they have been for many years. And you can see their successes by the crime rates in those states.
I don’t think we’ll ever see the raiding of homes to confiscate arms from law abiding people. But what I do see is the government telling me WHAT it is I NEED to defend myself. And that is just as bad. People need to remember WHY the 2nd was so important that it was put in there in the first place.
IF the idiots in the federal/State governments want a civil war, let them start taking guns away from law abiding citizens… The world would shudder.

Today on Fox, I was listening to a retired Army 2-star general talk about the situation in Egypt with possible military involvement. It’s been noted that the military has been tending to support the protesters and have refused to fire upon their citizens. The people in Egypt trust the military but not the government police. The General mentioned how the Egyptian military comes from the people themselves…just like here in America. He also said that even though the military has its “elite” high ranking officers, its officers at the Battalion level and below have been trained by the Americans. Lights and bells started going off in my head. Since the Americans trained these military personnel, then American values were ingrained into them too. The American values that the military holds to be true that the people are the government, not some politicians who believe they lord over the people. Like you said Fred, I too don’t believe the US Armed Forces and our local police forces will ever turn on the people. It’s the alphabet agencies we have to concerned about.
Of course he will take up the issue of gun control. He has now seen how seizing the internet works ala Egypt so the next logical step is taking away our guns. Then look for a contrived crisis. Never let a good crisis go to waste.

Can’t see anthing getting through the house, so he will have to try by executive order. And I suspect he will use the BATFE (The Heros of Ruby Ridge) as his enforcers. BATFE is one agency that should be eliminated. FBI can serve its mandate with no problem. In my opinion BATFE is a rogue agency and in Obama’s pocket. AF Ticker, they were most likely trained in a variety of military related things such as equipment maintenance, tactics, strategies, operations, pilot training, etc. Back in spring, 1979, I went through advanced aircraft systems training with two Iranians. We’ve been training officers and NCO’s from Arab nations for decades here and in some instances, our values rub off on them. One of the Iranians I trained with didn’t want to go back to Iran under the Ayatollah…the other wanted to hang a portrait of the Ayatollah in the classroom. Today I wonder if those two men are still alive.
I don’t believe the government will come after our firearms, but I thoroughly expect it will try to decide for us what guns we can have, how we can use them and how much ammunition we can use. I am waiting on some heavy-handed regulations on ammunition that would truly make our firearms “inanimate objects”, to borrow TexasFred’s words. I think the Chosen One will have eliminated his chance for re-election should he try to do that too, but it will still have the devastating effect of marketing the liberal-slime idea of excessive gun control. Lord, please keep watch over us….

As for the FBI replacing the BATF-NOT! In my experience working directly with and alongside both-the ATF (workers, not the upper echelon necessarily) are predominantly former police officers. They have un”common” sense. The infamous F B One on teh otherhand, are predominantly those with either a law degree or a CPA, with almost NO PRIOR LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPERIENCE. Most (not all BUT MOST) do NOT have any “COMMON” sense.
So, if push come to shove, I like BATF over FBI any (AND EVRY) day!

We knew that the Obama regime was going to use the Arizona shooting as a conduit to implement new gun control laws and they are about to do so. I don’t think that this will make its way through the Congess, but we always have to be watching the Executive Orders to see if Obama tries to rule by dictate on this. I don’t trust this man at all!
Man there is nothing I can add except, once again, Fred and all his commentors drive the point home and explain the stupidity of the left very well. I do think if this is pushed… they won’t like the results. I can’t believe how many of my son’s friends, all 21-22 years old, have concealed carry permits and some very nice weapons. Not all the younger generation has been brainwashed, and that gives me comfort. If any have questions about gun rights, I tell em to read Texas Fred! 🙂

Think about gun control in America, overall, for a moment:
- Conservatives don’t want it; they believe it’s a founding right;
- Leftists want it;
- Governments absent armed citizens are easier to control or from which to enact their own philosophical putsch;
- Therefore, from whom must you most fear from? Conservatives? Not hardly;
- It is a “given” that, no matter the law enacted, gangbangers of all stripes will not be surrendering their weapons;
- Therefore gun control truly only affects LAW-ABIDING citizens;
- Gangbangers won’t arise in an organized fashion against government; that’s where they get their Free Cheese;
- Concluding, gun control is aimed straight at TAXPAYING and LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS because it fears your realization and acknowledgment of ITS getting out of control AND fears your ability to defend yourself and your family;
- It fears you may NOT be sheep.
- As Robert points out, the government isn’t going to kick in the door; not just yet. Therefore if it acquires your guns at this point it is because you CHOSE to relinquish them.

BobF, very familiar with the training of ME and other foreign groups in the military. I was doing such in 1964. Since then we have seen the results of that training in places like South America, the Middle East and Africa. Maybe I should include Indonesia, the Philippines, Laos, Vietnam, etc etc. You beginning to see the picture?
