US to consider local views on 9/11 trial location

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Obama administration said Sunday it would consider local opposition when deciding where to hold Sept. 11 trials and pledged to seek swift justice for the professed mastermind of the attacks.

“Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is going to meet justice and he’s going to meet his maker,” said President Barack Obama’s press secretary, Robert Gibbs. “He will be brought to justice and he’s likely to be executed for the heinous crimes that he committed in killing and masterminding the killing of 3,000 Americans. That you can be sure of.”

Objections from New York City officials and residents have intensified since the Justice Department announced late last year it planned to put Mohammed and accused Sept. 11 conspirators on trial in federal court in lower Manhattan. In its new budget, the administration is proposing a $200 million fund to help pay for security costs in cities hosting terrorist trials.

White House aide David Axelrod said New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other city officials have changed their minds after initially supporting the decision for trials in the city, citing logistics and costs.

I have a few things I want to say regarding these terrorist trials.

First and foremost, Robert Gibbs is a blithering idiot. If a competent defense attorney gets a hold of that statement, “Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is going to meet justice and he’s going to meet his maker”, he will make mincemeat of the prosecution. When you deliberately make a statement like that, you have opened the door to a claim of Presidential prejudice and what may be perceived as an attempt to influence a jury. Can you say mistrial?

Any lawyer, and isn’t the President supposed to BE a lawyer, isn’t his wife a lawyer, ANY lawyer that would allow one of his employees to make a statement of that nature may very well be trying to pollute a potential jury pool as well.

Regardless of his words, or those of his hand puppet, Robert Gibbs, it has long been my personal and deep belief that Barack Hussein Obama has pushed so hard to have these trials carried out on U.S. soil because he wants to give the terrorists all the rights afforded to an American criminal on trial in an American court.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is NOT an American citizen, he is a terrorist. He should have the right to a fair trial by military tribunal and a swift execution by firing squad! And it should have taken place long ago.

Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., said the administration should shift the trials to military courts, which he said have been reviewed by Congress to ensure fairness. He and other Republicans have criticized officials for charging Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab in civilian court in the Christmas airliner plot instead of turning him over to military authorities.

“We have to make a distinction between a kid who breaks into a sandwich shop in Detroit and a Nigerian terrorist who wants to blow up an airplane flying into Detroit,” Alexander said.

It’s not too often that I agree with Sen. Lamar Alexander, but in this particular instance, we are on the same page. These guys are NOT criminals in the American sense of the word, they are, plain and simple, nothing more or less than TERRORISTS. Why can’t Barack Hussein Obama accept that as a fact of life? Any guesses?

Dear Friend of Law Enforcement – Re-post 1

January 30th, 2010 . by TexasFred
To my dear readers and fans, I am re-posting this in hopes that you can find a way to kick in a few bucks to help in this noble and worthy cause. Several of you already have, and your donations are seriously appreciated!

This is NOT for me or The TexasFred Blog, this is all in support of the Police Unity Tour and sponsoring Barry Morris as he rides to remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty!

Ladies and Gentlemen, I want to introduce you to a friend of mine, Barry Morris. Barry is a Texas DPS Trooper, a member of The Thin Blue Line and a really great guy. Below is Barry’s story and a request. If you can help him in this noble deed, please do!

Dear Friend of Law Enforcement – Re-post 1

On the 9th day of May 2010, I will again have the pleasure of participating in the Police Unity Tour.

The Police Unity Tour is a bicycle ride comprised of hundreds of law enforcement officers from across the US and Puerto Rico. We ride from just outside of New York City to Washington D.C. The Tour acts as the kick-off for National Police Week, celebrated each May in D.C. I will be riding alongside several Texas State Troopers, who plan to make the 320+ mile bike ride in honor of all the fallen officers of the past year. This will be my 4th year on the Tour and I am very much looking forward to the ride. My wife, Gene Ann, will be participating (for the 2nd year) in the Tour as one of the many support personnel necessary to complete the Tour.

Texas DPS did NOT lose an officer to a “line of duty death” this (past) year (2009)!!! I hope and pray we continue this trend for years into the future. Since we did not lose an officer last year I will be riding in memory of Patrick Randel, the only DPS Narcotics officer to be killed in the line of duty. I have been a DPS Narcotics Officer for 15 years. In 2003 I was making an undercover purchase of crack cocaine from a dope dealer.

Unknown to me he had a gun and attempted to rob and shoot me. It was only by the grace of God that I was able to react in an appropriate manner and live through that confrontation. Knowing firsthand how dangerous an under cover officer’s job can be I have chosen to ride for Investigator Randel, who was shot and killed while attempting to make an undercover purchase of Amphetamine from 2 scumbags on 10/23/1974. I have known one of Patrick’s daughters for most of my 15 year career in the Narcotics service and will be honored to ride in his memory; each pedal stroke serves as a reminder that life is precious and should never be taken for granted.

Each rider/support member is required to raise the necessary funds for sponsorship as a requirement for participation in the Tour. The Tour’s primary goal is to raise funds for The National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial in Washington D.C. which is scheduled to open in 2011. As a participating officer, I am required to raise a minimum of $1,700.00 as an entry fee. In addition, my wife is also required to raise $1,700.00 for her participation in this year’s Tour. Any additional funds raised will also help cover personal travel expenses incurred to and from the ride.

The primary purpose for the Police Unity Tour, as stated on their website, Police Unity Tour® – We Ride for Those Who Died is “To raise awareness of the Police Officers who have died in the line of duty.”

The second purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum.

It is an honor to represent the State of Texas, its citizens, and its State, County and Local Police Officers. I am very grateful that your donations will allow me to participate in this meaningful Tour. On behalf of me and the other Texas riders and the families of the fallen officers, THANK YOU- for your sponsorship and support.

Respectfully,
Barry Morris, Agent
DPS CID—Drug Section

The Husband Store

January 29th, 2010 . by TexasFred

Every so often I get an email joke that is just too good to keep to myself. This is one of those occasions and I have to share this with all of you! ~Fred~

The Husband Store

A store that sells new husbands has opened in New York City, a store where a woman may go to choose a husband.

Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates:

You may visit this store ONLY ONCE!

There are six floors and the value of the products increase as the shopper ascends the flights.

The shopper may choose any item from a particular floor, or may choose to go up to the next floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building!

So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband.

On the first floor the sign on the door reads:

Floor 1 – These men Have Jobs

She is intrigued, but continues to the second floor, where the sign reads:

Floor 2 – These men Have Jobs and Love Kids.

‘That’s nice,’ she thinks, ‘but I want more.’

So she continues upward. The third floor sign reads:

Floor 3 – These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, and are Extremely Good Looking.

‘Wow,’ she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.

She goes to the fourth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 4 – These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Good Looking and Help With Housework.

‘Oh, mercy me!’ she exclaims, ‘I can hardly stand it!’

Still, she goes to the fifth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 5 – These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Gorgeous, Help with Housework, and Have a Strong Romantic Streak.

She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor, where the
sign reads:

Floor 6 – You are visitor 31,456,012 to this floor.

There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please. Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store.

PLEASE NOTE:

To avoid gender bias charges, the store’s owner opened a New Wives store just across the street.

The first floor has wives that love sex.

The second floor has wives that love sex, have money, and like beer.

The third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors have never been visited…

Ford earns $2.7B in 2009, first profit in 4 years

Ford earns $2.7B in 2009, first profit in 4 years

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) – Defying economic conditions that sent its U.S. rivals into bankruptcy court, Ford Motor Co. clawed its way to a $2.7 billion profit in 2009 and expects to stay in the black in 2010. It was the automaker’s first annual profit in four years.

Ford’s full-year revenue of $118.3 billion fell 14 percent from 2008, but the Dearborn-based automaker benefited from $5.1 billion in cuts to manufacturing, engineering and advertising and a $1.3 billion profit at Ford Credit. It gained market share in North and South America and Europe despite the worst U.S. sales climate in 30 years. Share in Asia was flat.

Ford CEO Alan Mulally said 2009 was “pivotal” but Ford has work to do.

“Ford’s transformation remains a work in progress and is far from complete,” he said in a conference call with analysts and media. Back in 2006, Ford was considered the weakest of the three domestic automakers.

Maybe Ford really DOES have a Better Idea! Remember that slogan?

GM and Chrysler took federal bailout money. Have they shown a profit? Of any kind? I can’t find any data that says PROFIT made. But I did find this, a promise of profit.

DETROIT (CNNMoney.com) — General Motors Chairman and CEO Ed Whitacre promised Monday that taxpayers will make a profit on the $50 billion that Treasury has sunk into the company over the past 13 months. SOURCE

A $50 BILLION bailout from the government, and so far, we get a promise from GM?? That’s about all we’re going to get from Chrysler too I’m afraid.

On June 10, 2009, the sale of most of Chrysler assets to “New Chrysler”, formally known as Chrysler Group LLC was completed. The federal government financed the deal with US$6.6 billion in financing, paid to the “Old Chrysler”, formally called Old Carco LLC. The transfer does not include eight manufacturing locations, nor many parcels of real estate, nor equipment leases. Contracts with 789 U.S. auto dealerships, who are being dropped, were not transferred. SOURCE

Some sources are saying that IF Chrysler is able to show a profit at all, it will likely be sometime in 2010, if it happens. According to Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne, “Chrysler can be profitable this year if its sells 1.1 million vehicles in the U.S. and 1.65 million worldwide.”

Those sales targets represent an 18% improvement over Chrysler’s 2009 U.S. sales and a 27% jump from last year’s global total, both tall orders given that most industry leaders say they expect U.S. sales to rise about 10% this year to 11.5 million. SOURCE

I’m not a business major, but even I know that those sales figures are unrealistic in todays down economy. Unemployment is at least 10%, that’s what the government is willing to admit to. If the truth were told, those figures are several points lower that the actual number that makes the news. Americans aren’t going to buy enough Chrysler automobiles to cause that needed spike in sales. I know that I personally wouldn’t buy a Chrysler product.

I have to wonder, if Ford is doing so well, while GM and Chrysler are still struggling, where do you suppose Ford would be if they had taken federal bailout funds? I am guessing they would still be in financial trouble with no end in sight! Bailouts were handouts, on a massive scale, and handouts rarely help the recipient past some small, but immediate relief.
