I don’t carry a gun…

November 16th, 2008 . by TexasFred
I don’t carry a gun…

… to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don’t carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m paranoid. I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m evil. I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don’t carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m angry. I carry a gun so that I don’t have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don’t carry a gun because my sex organs are too small. I carry a gun because I want to continue to use those sex organs for the purpose for which they were intended for a good long time to come.

I don’t carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m a cowboy. I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don’t carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don’t carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don’t carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

Police Say Target Shooter May Have Fired Bullet That Hit NASCAR Fan

Police Say Target Shooter May Have Fired Bullet That Hit NASCAR Fan

FORT WORTH, Texas — A stray bullet that injured a NASCAR fan in her motor home at Texas Motor Speedway may have been from a rifle of a target shooter, police said on Tuesday.

A 49-year-old man contacted police after being told of news reports that a woman was hit in the arm on Sunday morning by a bullet piercing through the roof of her recreational vehicle camped at the speedway for the Dickies 500, according to Fort Worth police.

The man told detectives on Tuesday that he fired five or six rounds from a .50 caliber Vulcan single-shot rifle near a rifle range about five miles from the speedway from about 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., police said.

Detectives confiscated the Vulcan rifle and will conduct ballistics tests. If it matches the recovered bullet, the man could face a charge of deadly conduct for recklessly firing a weapon in the direction of others, police said.

The 62-year-old woman’s condition was unavailable on Tuesday.

Target Shooter May Have Hit NASCAR Fan, Cops Say

OK, this is just begging to be said and if it pisses anyone off, that’s GOOD, I don’t care, I am past the point of caring WHO I piss off when the truth is posted on this blog.

To ALL of you anti-gun, 2nd amendment hating asshats and moonbats, THIS is how a responsible, and LEGAL gun owner handles his business. He is NOT hiding, he didn’t dump the rifle, he came forward, like a responsible gun owner will do!

Do responsible gun owners, legal gun owners make mistakes? You’re damned right they do. Do accidents happen to responsible gun owners? Sure, just like they happen to anyone else in life. This story is an inspiration to me as a LEGAL and RESPONSIBLE gun owner, and it exposes the hypocrisy of the anti-gun cabal.

This gentleman came forward, on his own, simply because he feels that he *may* have been the cause of this terrible accident. He didn’t come forth as an arrested and/or charged individual, he came forth as a responsible gun owner that is able to readily admit that he may have made a mistake that brought harm to another person.

That is a level of honesty and courage that we don’t see exhibited in this day and time, my Stetson is tipped to the guy, KUDOS Sir, you are to be commended even if you were the cause!

Also, I would be remiss in MY duty as a responsible gun owner if I didn’t say this, IF he fired a round that resulted in a ricochet, then he is partially responsible because he didn’t ascertain his back stop and the consequences thereof. IF he fired a round into the air, then this guy needs to suffer whatever penalties the law allows. It is STUPID to fire a round into the air.

And as Ron White says, “You can’t fix stupid”…

Rifle company executive ousted after announcing Obama support

Rifle company executive ousted after announcing Obama support

WASHINGTON — Montana gunsmith Dan Cooper has been ousted as chief executive of the rifle company that bears his name after pressure from gun owners who are angry that he is supporting Democrat Barack Obama.

Cooper, founder and part owner of Cooper Firearms Inc., told USA TODAY in a story published Tuesday that he has voted for Republicans for most of his life, but he is backing Obama “probably because of the war. And also because the Republican Party has moved so far right in recent years.” Cooper said he was attracted to the Democrat’s message about “the retooling of America, which involves the building of middle-class jobs and helping American small business be competitive with those overseas.”

Cooper contributed $3,300 to Obama’s presidential campaign, according to election records complied by the non-partisan CQ MoneyLine.

The USA TODAY article sparked outrage from some gun owners and bloggers, including an open letter on a blog called Firearms and Freedom, urging people to boycott the company’s products. Many gun enthusiasts believe Obama will try to restrict their right to bear arms, although he has said he respects the Second Amendment.

The company posted a statement Wednesday night on its website that said:

“The employees, shareholders and board of directors of Cooper Firearms of Montana do not share the personal political views of Dan Cooper. Although we all believe everyone has a right to vote and donate as they see fit, it has become apparent that the fallout may affect more than just Mr. Cooper. It may also affect the employees and the shareholders of Cooper Firearms. The board of directors has asked Mr. Cooper to resign as President.”

And to the company I say KUDOS, it’s about time people took issues such as this to heart!!

Just because a person claims to be pro guns and pro 2nd amendment doesn’t necessarily make it an absolute that they are RIGHT thinking Conservatives, case in point, this story and the donation to the Obama campaign.

U.S. Citizen wrote about this too, Message from Cooper Firearms of Montana, USC didn’t opine on the subject and I am not going to speculate as to his feelings, he can do that here and on his blog, but I have a pretty good idea as to what his feelings are.

Obama is NO friend to gun owners, I don’t care what the words say, the man IS an anti-gun guy, his past actions and speeches attest to that fact. He WILL, almost as soon as he assumes office, assuming that he does win, he will try his level best to infringe on the rights of LEGAL gun owners and sportsmen. He will attempt to reinstate the assault weapons ban, of that there is NO doubt. He will tax guns and ammunition to the point that it will be nearly impossible to afford to go shooting at the range or to go hunting!

Dan Cooper is a gullible idiot. Bob Ricker, executive director of the American Hunters and Shooters Association, which has endorsed Obama, is another gullible idiot. I can’t possibly imagine that any REAL gun person would see supporting Obama as being PRO gun.

Supporting Obama and claiming that you’re PRO gun is about as ridiculous as the accusations that I was against Class III weapons and was advocating more restrictions. Sheer stupidity reigns supreme in this election cycle…

Watauga homeowner stabbed, shot with own gun during robbery

Watauga homeowner stabbed, shot with own gun during robbery

A Watauga homeowner was stabbed several times and shot once with his own gun during a robbery early this morning, police said.

The incident occurred in the 6000 block of Sundown Drive in Watauga about 10 miles northeast of Fort Worth.

According to Watauga police, a man heard someone trying to break into a trailer parked in his driveway around 3:30 a.m.

Armed with a shotgun, the man confronted the intruder who stabbed him several times. The gun went off during the scuffle, and the homeowner was shot in the arm.

A neighbor who came to the help the homeowner was also stabbed multiple times, police said.

Watauga homeowner stabbed, shot with own gun during robbery

It is often said, “Never take a knife to a gunfight”, so pay attention to this and try to figure out HOW in the hell a home owner that was armed with a shotgun got shot with his own gun and the neighbor got stabbed…

Home owner had a shotgun… Bad guy had a knife… Homeowner gets stabbed AND shot… Looks like someone brought a knife to a gunfight, and WON… Wow… Just unbelievable…

That was MY comment on the DMN page where this came from, and I am seriously wondering HOW in the hell did the guy overpower 2 people, take the shotgun away, shot the homeowner and stab BOTH the owner and neighbor.

I am only guessing here, speculation on MY part, let’s make that clear so some of the IDIOTS that read here don’t misunderstand my position on guns, but possibly this is a case of a home owner involving himself into a situation that he was NOT fully prepared for, perhaps NOT a trained individual, trained in police tactics, the use OF the shotgun, the idea of hunting down and shooting another human being, whatever the case may be, I wasn’t there, I can only guess, but something went VERY wrong when some scumbag armed with a knife got BOTH of these people and was able to shoot one too.

There are, regretfully, a lot of folks that DO own guns, LEGALLY, but that’s all they do is own them. They don’t have the training nor the WILL to actually use them against an intruder. I have heard a lot of people say, “Oh hell yeah, I’ll blow em to hell if they mess with ME!” but when they have to actually *draw down* on a real live human being, their knees turn to water and they crap their bloomers.

Troops have it happen in combat, cops have it happen, at the WORST possible moment, it only stands to reason that it could well be the situation in the Watauga shooting too.

If you own a gun and you aren’t a trained professional, get some training, get a lot of training, become highly proficient with your weapon of choice, and then, make your mind up that if placed in a position of having no other choice, make a positive choice that says YES, I CAN pull the trigger on another human being, and YOU are the only one that can make that decision!!

And YOU are the only one that will know the REAL truth regarding that decision! But if you realize that you can’t do it, if YOU determine that you are incapable of taking another humans life, get some mace, get a stun gun, get a baseball bat, get a big damned dog, but don’t get yourself hurt or KILLED over some *macho* idea that it’s *cool* to shoot another person. It’s not…

Charges possible in boy’s Uzi death

Charges possible in boy’s Uzi death

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Authorities in Massachusetts are considering whether criminal charges should be filed in the death of an 8-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself with an Uzi submachine gun at a gun show.

Hampden County District Attorney William Bennett said Tuesday he hasn’t been able to find any law that would authorize a child to possess or fire a machine gun.

Christopher Bizilj of Ashford, Conn., was trying out one of the weapons at the Westfield Sportsman’s Club on Sunday when he lost control, shooting himself in the head.

An instructor was watching the boy at a firing range and the youngster’s father was a few feet away.

Bennett says he’s looking into whether anyone committed a reckless or wanton act when they allowed the boy to fire the weapon.

Charges possible in boy’s Uzi death

Charges possible? They should be a certainty!

As I said yesterday, I am dead set against full auto loading weapons being in the hands of ANYONE that is NOT 1) fully trained, 2) an adult, that is to say: MATURE, 3) a person with a specific NEED for such weapon, and 4) a person that possesses sufficient strength, knowledge and skill to control said weapon.

I fully believe that there was NO parental responsibility exhibited here, none!! Not in ANY way. The father was *present*, but to call this act in ANY way *responsible* is just not something that I can do!

I own a few firearms, one happens to be a Springfield XD-45 Tactical pistol, it hold 14 rounds of 230gr .45 caliber ammunition, it is a semi auto-loader, meaning that your must pull the trigger each time you want to fire it, but it will keep on firing until you stop pulling the trigger or you run out of ammo. When my wife shoots it for the 1st time, it will have ONE round in the chamber and NONE in the magazine. She is an experienced shooter, of smaller calibers, all revolvers, but just in case this larger caliber auto-loader gun *spooks* her, or in some way gets away from her, we don’t have an accident waiting to happen with the 13 additional rounds in the magazine.

Let’s talk about RESPONSIBLE gun ownership and support. I was raised with weapons, my father was a gunsmith, he had heart surgery twice and the 2nd time really messed up his chest, left him very *tender*, so I got to do ALL the test firing on heavy caliber weapons, thus I was able to get lots of shooting in at a young age. BUT, I was well trained, well supervised and until such time that I was thought to be fully capable, I was under stringent supervision. And I wasn’t 8 years old, I was more like 14 or 15 at the time, fairly mature for my age and it was, all in all, one hell of a great experience.

I didn’t fire my 1st fully automatic weapon until I was 18 years old, I stood 6′1″, weighed about 210 pounds and had several years of serious experience with weapons, and I had a very good idea of what to expect when the Thompson submachine gun went off. It did, as ALL full autos are inclined to do, go into a climb, meaning that the barrel rose in elevation as I held the trigger. But I knew to let off of the trigger to STOP the climb. Apparently, someone forgot to tell that to the 8 year old kid when they let him have a go at a fully loaded Uzi.

There is NO WAY that an 8 year old kid had ANY business firing a full auto ANYTHING, regardless of the level of supervision, he WAS and 8 year old kid, and even if he had been privvy to a few *tips* on the handling of a full auto, when he pulled the trigger and that thing started cooking, ALL of his *tips* went right out the window.

I have seen grown men and women lose control of a full auto weapon. I have seen experienced gunners come close to losing control on occasion. The father of this child and the so-called instructor need to be tied to a tree and horse whipped, repeatedly.

This tragic event is NOT something that should even remotely bring about ANY kind of laws against the LEGAL ownership of Class III weapons in general, what this is, basically, is nothing more than a testament to the fact that their MUST be some common sense applied when shooting ANY firearm, by the supposed ADULTS involved.

And in this particular case, NONE was, and a child lost his life, because of that lack of parental responsibility!
