Obama cites apparent al-Qaida link in bomb plot

HONOLULU (AP) - An al-Qaida affiliate in Yemen apparently ordered the Christmas Day plot against a U.S. airliner, training and arming the 23-year-old Nigerian man accused in the failed bombing, President Barack Obama said Saturday.

“This is not the first time this group has targeted us,” Obama said, reporting on some of the findings of an administration review into how intelligence agencies failed to prevent Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab from boarding Detroit-bound Northwest Flight 253.

In his most direct public language to date, Obama described the path through Yemen of Abdulmutallab. He also emphasized that the United States would continue its partnerships with friendly countries - citing Yemen, in particular - to fight terrorists and extremist groups.

The U.S. plans to more than double its counterterrorism aid to the impoverished, fragmented Arab nation in the coming year to support Yemen’s campaign against al-Qaida.

How do you like that? Barack Hussein Obama has it all figured out. al-Qaida is “apparently” the responsible party for the bombing attempt on Christmas Day! And WOW, it only took him, what, 8 days?

Obama’s homeland security team has been piecing together just how Abdulmutallab was able to get on the plane. Officials have described flaws in the system and by those executing the strategy and have delivered a preliminary assessment.

But wait! Didn’t DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano say that the system worked? Before she said the system didn’t work? Napolitano Acknowledges Security Failed in Allowing Terror Suspect on Plane. Sounds strangely familiar, like something John Kerry might say.

What’s the deal with Dems anyway? They can’t make a statement that sticks. They can’t speak from a position of authority, well, not on anything that really matters, and when they get *called* on their ridiculous statements, they just go with the flow and pretend they didn’t really say whatever it was they said!

A top counterterrorism official said Saturday that al-Qaida and others extremists are working to test U.S. defenses and launch an attack on American soil.

NO!!! Really? Are you sure? Golly gee whiz Mr. Obama-Man, you and all of your terror experts sure are smart and junk! You guys have it figured out now? You really think that al-Qaida and others extremists are working to test our defenses and launch an attack on American soil? Gosh Mr. Obama-Man, you and your buddies sure are smart!

Obama vows to use power to thwart terrorists

Obama vows to use power to thwart terrorists

HONOLULU (AP) - President Barack Obama on Monday vowed to use “every element of our national power” to keep Americans safe and said the failed Christmas Day plot to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner was “a serious reminder” of the need to continually adapt security measures against changing terrorist threats.

But even as Obama spoke, word came that a State Department warning had failed to trigger an effort to revoke the alleged attacker’s visa. And officials in Yemen confirmed that the would-be bomber had been living in that country, where terrorist elements quickly sought to take credit for his actions.

The incident prompted stiffer airport boarding measures and authorities warned holiday travelers to expect extra delays as they return home this week and beyond.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, charged with trying to destroy an aircraft, is being held at the federal prison in Milan, Mich. A court hearing that had been scheduled for Monday to determine whether the government can get DNA from him was postponed until Jan. 8. No reason was given.

In the now famous words of Rep. Joe Wilson:

YOU LIE!

Unlike Joe Wilson, I am not going to jump through hoops so I can immediately apologize to Barack Hussein Obama, Nancy Pelosi and the most disingenuous group that this nation has ever had sit in the halls of the United States Congress.

Calling Abdulmutallab’s action an “attempted act of terrorism” Obama vowed to “do everything that we can to keep America safe” and declared: “The United States will more than simply strengthen our defenses. We will continue to use every element of our national power to disrupt, to dismantle and defeat the violent extremists who threaten us.”

I am seriously surprised that Obama used the term “attempted act of terrorism“, I honestly did NOT think he would call the actions of his Muslim brother an “attempted act of terrorism“. I am of the opinion that some of his advisers told him that right about now was a good time to grow a set, because the American people are sick and tired of this “overseas contingency operation” B.S. and all of the political correctness that it employs!

Members of Congress, meanwhile, questioned how a man flagged as a possible terrorist managed to board a commercial flight into the United States carrying powerful explosives and nearly bring down the jetliner. Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., said Monday that the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee that he chairs would hold hearings in January.

Oh, Congress is looking into it! And Joe LIEberman is the chairman. How reassuring… :?

Obama, on vacation in his birthplace of Hawaii, acknowledged the attack showed the need to increase the United States’ defenses. He detailed the pair of reviews that he has ordered to determine whether changes are needed in either the watchlist system or airport screening procedures.

Isn’t it nice how the AP is so fair and balanced in their reporting? And so obviously NOT in the tank for Obama. I mean, they felt the need to stress ‘his birthplace of Hawaii’?

Nope, no way is the MSM in the tank for Obama, no favoritism here folks.

Feds assess terror watchlists after airline attack

Feds assess terror watchlists after airline attack

WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal authorities met Monday to reassess the nation’s system of terror watchlists to determine how to avoid the type of lapse that allowed a man with explosives to board a flight to the U.S. even though he was flagged as a possible terrorist.

A senior U.S. intelligence official said authorities were reviewing the procedures that govern the lists, which could include how someone is placed on or moved between the various databases.

The Obama administration has ordered investigations into how travelers are placed on watch lists and how passengers are screened, as critics and administration officials questioned how the 23-year-old man charged in the Christmas Day airliner attack was allowed to board the flight.

“Why wasn’t he flagged at a higher screening level?” Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”"How did he get an explosive substance on to the plane? All of those are serious questions that we are now looking at.”

I am going to say this in the most plain language I can possibly use. I don’t want anyone, even the most dim of the Dems to misunderstand my meaning. The administration of Barack Hussein Obama is an utter failure, on EVERY level.

“Why wasn’t he flagged at a higher screening level?” Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”"How did he get an explosive substance on to the plane? All of those are serious questions that we are now looking at.”

These are Napolitano’s questions? She is asking these questions and saying that they are being ‘looked at’? Aren’t those the questions that WE should be asking of HER? Isn’t she supposed to have those answers now? Isn’t that the job she’s supposed to be doing? Isn’t she supposed to be looking at each and every threat to American security?

Homeland security? Hello??

The intelligence official said the review will look at what adjustments could be made to avoid the type of gap that allowed Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to fly into Detroit even though Britain had refused to grant him a student visa in May. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the internal review.

The system has failed. Miserably. We were warned about this person becoming a radical Islamic terrorist, warned by his father of all people. So, what happens next? He has his name placed on a list, and that’s pretty much the end of it until he tries to commit an act of terror over American soil!

WASHINGTON: As FBI agents charged Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, from Nigeria, with attempting to destroy Northwest Airlines flight 253 from Amsterdam, authorities were confronting an uncomfortable reality - their suspect had boarded an aircraft despite warnings from his father, a former Nigerian economics minister, that his son had adopted extremist views. SOURCE

When your own family sounds the warning, when they try to alert others to your potential to do violence and commit acts of terror, and those warnings are pretty much ignored, and swept under the rug, that is sorely indicative of systemic failure.
