Injured vet spent day at work, nights at protest

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - The Iraq War veteran injured during a clash between police and anti-Wall Street protesters this week wasn’t taking part in the demonstrations out of economic need.

The 24-year-old Scott Olsen makes a good living as a network engineer and has a nice apartment overlooking San Francisco Bay. And yet, his friends say, he felt so strongly about economic inequality in the United States that he fought for overseas that he slept at a protest camp after work.

“He felt you shouldn’t wait until something is affecting you to get out and do something about it,” said friend and roommate Keith Shannon, who served with Olsen in Iraq.

It was that feeling that drew him to Oakland on Tuesday night, when the clashes broke out and Olsen’s skull was fractured. Fellow veterans said Olsen was struck in the head by a projectile fired by police, although the exact object and who might have been responsible for the injury have not been definitively established.

Injured vet spent day at work, nights at protest

Oh MY! Iraq Veterans Against the War and Veterans For Peace are all up in the air over poor Scott Olsen getting his bell rung while marching with the Occupy Oakland smelly-assed dope head hippies, Socialists, Commies, anarchists and all around morons.

It seems that poor Scott was actually one of those vile Capitalists, but, in MY opinion, was a product of a *victim mentality* of some sort, economic inequality or something.

So, poor Scott works his day job as a network engineer, and instead of going home to his nice apartment overlooking San Francisco Bay with his boyfriend room-mate and having a nice dinner, a glass or 2 of wine and a night of TV and whatever, he goes to a protest march and gets whacked in the head when the anarchists ignore LEGAL ORDERS to remove themselves from the area and begin throwing bottles of urine, paint and who knows what else at the Oakland Police officers.

Here’s a funny thing, in MY opinion, Iraq Veterans Against the War and Veterans For Peace are calling for members to make donations to help poor Scott pay for his medical bills. I would think that if poor Scott makes such a good living that he would have a few benefits…health and dental?

I wonder? Some insurance coverage is null and void if you are engaged in an act of WAR or a crime and sustain injury. Is poor Scott going to be canceled? The irony… Poor Scott

Frankly, I don’t give a DAMN what happens to Scott Olsen, what does bother me is this;

In Las Vegas, a few dozen protesters held a vigil for him. A handful of police officers attended, and protesters invited them back for a potluck dinner Thursday night.

What bothers me is not the part about the *vigil*, that’s what bleeding hearts do, the part that I take issue with is the police officers that attended in sympathy. It’s Vegas, it’s a Dem controlled area and unemployment is through the roof, Unions run the place and I guess it’s to be expected that a few Vegas Cops would be bleeding heart liberals, but damn…

The group Iraq Veterans Against the War blamed police for Olsen’s injury. Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan said officials will investigate whether officers used excessive force. He did not return calls seeking comment Thursday.

Police have said they responded with tear gas and bean bag rounds only when protesters began throwing bottles and other items at them.

If some recent actions regarding supposed use of *excessive force* are any indication, I am afraid that the Police on scene may well be found at fault, it seems to be the way things are done now, the anarchists and criminals have ALL the rights, but the idea of Police Officers taking the side of these anarchists against their Brother Officers is just incredible.

Many have discussed Oath Keepers and the idea of an event of *civil insurrection*, there would be a small percentage of police AND military that would either side with the LEFT and the anarchists or would blindly follow ILLEGAL orders from a Socialist in the White House. I am guessing that the officers attending the vigil are testament to that.

I don’t believe Iraq Veterans Against the War and Veterans For Peace have any concept of Oath Keepers or standing by the oath they took to defend this nation from ALL enemies, foreign and domestic, and by their actions, the aforementioned groups have, in their support of the Occupy movement, Code Pink and other actions, have now become the enemy within.

Here is even more from the Occupy Wall Street morons:

General Strike Called In Oakland – Calls For US & Global General Strike Nov. 2 (Global)

Below is the proposal passed by the Occupy Oakland General Assembly on Wednesday October 26, 2011 in reclaimed Oscar Grant Plaza. 1607 people voted. 1484 voted in favor of the resolution, 77 abstained and 46 voted against it, passing the proposal at 96.9%. The General Assembly operates on a modified consensus process that passes proposals with 90% in favor and with abstaining votes removed from the final count.

Full idiotic platform here:
General Strike Called In Oakland

I don’t believe the town I live in would be directly affected, we’re too small, but we, as with everyone else, would be affected indirectly by these *strikes*.

I would be very interested in knowing how MY local officials look upon these strikes and protests, and would love to hear their *take* on them and what our projected reaction would be if such BS did happen in Smalltown USA… Several of my local officials are on the blog and have made comments in the past, their response would be appreciated!

But, TF, here is the KEY sentence that the Leftists aren’t understanding — though it’s written in plain sight:

“. . .although the exact object and who might have been responsible for the injury have not been definitively established.”

He could have been beaned by one of his fellow Occupy assholes!

    TF,

If it is a War Zone, then wouldn’t the police be obligated to adhere to the Geneva Convention on dealing with unarmed protesters and not fire directly on them until at least three warnings were given? The people that were there trying to move Olsen to safety were hit by rubber bullets.

And what about the orders to vacate made them lawful? Was it just because the Socialist mayor of Oakland said so? Would it have been any more lawful if Governor Moonbeam gave the order or Barry Sotero?

And don’t commies and socialists and hippies have the right to free speech too, or is free speech limited to only a certain class of people?

Don’t misunderstand, I think the Occupy protesters in Oakland are VERY wrong on the issues, but I was not aware that being wrong allowed the government to violate the First Amendment. If that was the case Al Gore would’ve been silenced long ago.

      Unarmed? Seriously?

Throwing rocks, bottles, bags of SHIT, bottles of PISS and cans of paint at the Police does NOT equate to unarmed…

Once the violence starts a lot of people are going to get hit, that’s the breaks…

And don’t be a DUMB ASS, this was NOT about an infringement on their rights to free speech, it was about sanitary conditions, shit and piss in the street, crime, rapes, drugs and various medical threats to the community, it was about the disruption to the community and business that these cretins have caused…

Rubber bullets? Not if I was there, you throw a rock at ME, it’s ON… I throw 230 grains of HOT LEAD… It’s called battery on a police officer, and if I am battered by some asshole protester, I batter back, 10 times over… You see, a thrown rock is an assault with a deadly weapon…

If you don’t understand that part, take a few courses in Criminal Justice, talk to the Police in your area, whatever works for you, but don’t come in here with that *Unarmed protesters* bullshit…

    • NativeSon says:

“Free speech” that involves using one’s mouth. NOTHING ELSE. The leftist judges with agenda’s have (incorrectly) allowed ACTIONS to be defined as SPEECH. Look up the definition of SPEECH in Webster’s…
No, the police were not taking away anyone’s RIGHT to FREE SPEECH.
(Bottles of piss, paint, rocks etc. do not constitute SPEECH).
Don’t go away mad just go away (educated a little more I hope)

  3. JOtis says:

I’m reading the same reports you are.

Sorry, I didn’t realize that a bag of shit was a deadly weapon.

I’ll need to be prepared next time I visit the monkey exhibit at the zoo.

Iraq War Veteran Injured at OWS Oakland Founder of IHateTheMarineCorps.com

Morgen on October 27, 2011 at 10:41 pm

Scott Olsen is the Marine Corps veteran critically injured at Occupy Oakland Tuesday night, during a confrontation between the protesters and the police. The latest news is good: his condition has been upgraded from critical to fair and he is apparently conscious and able to respond to doctors and family members. I sincerely wish him a full recovery, and I also hope that a proper investigation is conducted to determine whether police misconduct is responsible for his injuries.

But I ran across something this evening that may add a new dimension to this story. It has been widely reported that Olsen is a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War. But apparently his opposition to the U.S. military and the Marine Corps in which he served runs a little deeper.

The site is no longer live, but Olsen was the founder of IHateTheMarineCorps.com, a private user forum apparently dedicated to bashing the Marine Corps. (click to enlarge)

    • BobF says:

It wouldn’t surprise me at all that Olson was the founder of that site. You’d be astonished at the number of guys who, while in the military, hated it and were thrown out but once they got out, they used their military service as a “robe of righteousness”. I was career military (E-8) and spent a good portion of my time dealing with those whose only uniform should have been a bright orange jumpsuit. A piss-poor GI with a bad service record can get out under honorable conditions and you’ll never know it. He’ll be at protests, like this, touting his military service and those who don’t know better will be holding him up as an example for others to follow.

there are two threads about this guy over at This Ain’t Hell. With links. YOu can try verumserum, for one place, they had some info up about this guy. MOF here’s the link, where I got the info. http://www.verumserum.com/ Third story down on the left hand side of the page.

This guy was the owner of a blog, IhatetheMarineCorp dot com. He also admitted on a twitter feed that he was, at one time, awaiting admin separation for cocaine use. So, he is not the hero that IVAW, Vets for Peace and the Flea Baggers and Occutards make him out to be.

Besides, you know, even good people can go along with the crowd and do stupid shit.

  6. Dick Robie says:

Economic inequality. Hmmmm! When I grew up I was raised to understand and accept the fact that success only comes through education and hard work. I worked hard even when I was a kid to save up for a car-I got a car and worked even harder to be able to drive it. I finished HS, went to college (paid my own way thru-no loans-no rich parents) and I was a moderate success in life. I am now 76 yrs young and still working. If you want success and the money and the “things” that go with it-work hard. The Government has and is leading us to think that we don’t have to work hard that someone owes us financial or economic equality. That is a bunch of Bullshit-If I had my way, we would do away with welfare, the minimum wage, unemployment insurance and all the other crap. Anyway, my point of view.

  7. Hoosier Army Mom says:

All of this makes me sick. So sick that I wish we could just give California back to Spain! With that being said, glad you said goodbye to JOtis the dipstick. Rubber bullets… what a laugh! The behavior of these people is in keeping with liberals in the land of fruits and nuts. Obviously, Olsen made it into the Corps without learning the values that most Marines hold dear. I am so sick of this Occupy movement and their sick behavior that I wish they would all go Occupy Hell to be honest. I’m not sure how my community would respond, but I would hope law enforcement here would have enough sense not to break out into hand holding and kum-bah-yah when the vermin throws urine at them! WTF!

All this does is make me wonder about the long term effects that socialist teachers and ADHD drugs have had on young people in this country for decades! I think many are brain damaged. Jus Sayin.

  8. Bloviating Zeppelin says:

    To JOtis:

So, you must be one of those guys who think I get PAID to have a bag of shit thrown at me. You must think I get PAID to be exposed to any number of diseases from that, including but not limited to:
    - E coli
    - meningitis
    - hepatitus
    - AIDS
    - parasites

Not to mention the outright indignity of having shit and piss thrown at or strike you.

So I suppose that, because I take a job, I must somehow simply walk away from my basic human rights, the right of self-defense, the right NOT to suffer indignities, to NOT be exposed to diseases that can kill me.

And therefore the rights of those persons at the various OCCUPY camps seem to magically, mystically trump mine?

Finally, let’s examine the word “unarmed”:

    un·armed (n-ärmd)
    adj.
    1.
    a. Lacking weapons or armor; defenseless.
    b. Not carrying, using, or displaying arms: an unarmed spotter plane; unarmed robbery.
    2. Biology Having no thorns, spines, teeth, claws, or other protective parts.

Rocks, cans, bottles? Of course, silly me, that’s completely unarmed.

If you’d like to see what it’s like on the “other side,” try donning a police uniform and trot on down to your local OCCUPY site. I’m sure you’ll be welcomed with open arms, kind smiles, calming words and glad tidings.

But no. You might actually have harsh words, sarcasm, bags of piss of shit, cinder blocks, rocks, bottles or worse thrown at you.

One final question: you ever see ANY of this kind of behavior going on at any TEA Party events? Because boy, you sure would have had them played on the DEM/MSM for weeks afterwards, had that been true.

    BZ

  9. Katie says:

You throw rocks, bottles, etc at the police you will get hurt. I find no problem with the police doing whatever it is necessary to restore the peace.

Especially after Flier at Occupy Phoenix asks, “When should you shoot a cop?” is allowed.

  10. Texasperated says:

No reason to capture them, stop them, or put them in jail. Just surround them with a few reels of dannert wire. If they want to leave send them with an escort back to their mommy’s basement, plug the video games back in, then go get the next one.

If they pull any crap inside the wire, hoze ‘em down — baptism by fire hydrant.

I was going to say Keep your powder dry, but maybe it is time to start saying lock and load.
