Amid scandal, revered PSU coach Joe Paterno dies
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Happy Valley was perfect for Joe Paterno, a place where “JoePa” knew best, where he not only won more football games than any other major college coach, but won them the right way: with integrity and sportsmanship. A place where character came first, championships second.
Behind it all, however, was an ugly secret that ran counter to everything the revered coach stood for.
Paterno, a sainted figure at Penn State for almost half a century but scarred forever by the child sex abuse scandal that brought his career to a stunning end, died Sunday at age 85.
His death came just over two months after his son Scott announced on Nov. 18 that his father had been diagnosed with a treatable form of lung cancer. The cancer was found during a follow-up visit for a bronchial illness. A few weeks later, Paterno broke his pelvis after a fall but did not need surgery.

Amid scandal, revered PSU coach Joe Paterno dies
Was he a GREAT football coach? Of course he was.
Did he lead Penn State to football greatness? Without a doubt.
Penn State won two national championships, both under Joe Paterno’s tenure as coach in 1982 and 1986.
He’s DEAD, and I do NOT mourn his passing.
The SON OF A BITCH KNEW! Kids were being RAPED, and he did NOTHING!
One *Aw Shit* wipes out a whole lot of *atta boys*.
Burn in HELL you bastard!
I don’t shed a tear for him. Right now he is in front of the Ultimate Judge of us all, explaining his actions to him. And winning football games isn’t a good motive.
It will be 50 years OR MORE before people will forget about the raping of boys that Coach Sandusky did with his boss Paterno knowing what was happening.
Paterno is gone, buried , hopefully face up as usual.
I hope they put a urinal for his headstone, or the grave site will be awfully soggy from the people who visit and want to piss on him.
As for Sandusky, he won’t make it to an old age!
During his last interview a few weeks ago, he said he wasn’t angry with anyone. He never, ever got it. Good riddance.
Could you imagine the obituary he would have had if he had stopped the rapes, Beat the crap out of Sandusky before he handed to the cops and helped the victims instead of looking the other way ?
Too bad he was a bastard (forgive my profanity) instead of a decent man.
One word on this post Fred… DITTO!
