Mother of Dallas trucker jailed in Mexico fights for son’s return
DALLAS - Aletha Smith cups her hands over her head and deeply sighs.
“It’s like a nightmare,” she said.
Smith is referring to the arrest of her 27-year-old son, Jabin Bogan, who was taken into custody at a border checkpoint in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, last Tuesday.
Mexican officials say he was trying to smuggle more than a quarter-million rounds of ammunition into the country, but his mother calls it all a horrible mistake.
“My son made a wrong turn into the wrong place, and he had nothing to do with what was on that truck,” Smith said.

There’s nothing like the pleas of a mother attempting to defend her child. But what defense can be offered when that child is STOOPID! To clarify; STOOPID is worse than stupid.
Yeah, I know; “Jabin is such a GOOD boy … he just took a wrong turn”, apparently, he just can’t read. Border crossing in El Paso are ALL marked at least as well as the picture above.
A week after his arrest, Mexican authorities have yet to charge Bogan with a crime, nor have they indicated when he may be released.
It’s Mexico, it’s their jail, their legal system, and their rules. Remember; Mexico is not as nice as we are regarding law breakers, ILLEGALS and people so damned STOOPID that they *accidentally* drive a load of ammunition into THEIR nation.
Mexico may very well lock Jabin Bogan up for years, keep the truck and trailer and use the ammo for their own purposes.
Normally, I might feel *some* sympathy for a guy locked up in a Mexican jail, but having lived in El Paso for many years, and KNOWING that all border crossings are well marked and virtually impossible to cross *accidentally*, all I can say is, this guy is too dumb to be driving a truck.
There was a time when trucking was the business people got into when they just couldn’t get a job doing anything else, now, trucking is a lot more demanding. And being able to read and understand highway signs is critical, especially when they say Mexico: Keep Left!
One thing is certain; IF Jabin Bogan gets out of this, he will never cross that border again, accidentally or otherwise. 😈
you are correct about keeping someone in jail for a long time before stating what he/she is in jail for.
It all depends on just how much money the lawbreaker has!!!

YES amigos, this is absolutely true.
Someone on his behalf will have to go to Juarez, Mexico, have a meeting with the Govt’s district attorney, and “negotiate” a bail amount.
It will be very, very expensive. Even if it is an honest, ignorant mistake.
Remember, the whole Government system of Mexico works for very low monthly wages, and makes up the difference with “mordida” payments.
Mordita means “little bite”.
It is a payoff to get anything done, and this runs Mexico in all of their transactions.
Also, the load of ammunition was brought into Mexico illegally, and will never be returned!
If they can use it in their Ejercito, their military, they will!
If they can’t, they will sell it to the highest bidder.
Of course it will be sold, and quickly. To whom? Maybe to someone who is a secret employee of a Cartel!
