GAO: Recoverable Oil in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming ‘About Equal to Entire World’s Proven Oil Reserves
Pay attention America; WE HAVE BEEN SCREWED, and I can’t think of any nicer way to say it. We’ve been screwed by Liberal politicians, tree huggers, Greenies, anti-oil people and by those that control drilling and exploration. I have long advocated; the USA is NOT out of oil, we never have been, and quite likely, never will be.
(CNSNews.com) - The Green River Formation, a largely vacant area of mostly federal land that covers the territory where Colorado, Utah and Wyoming come together, contains about as much recoverable oil as all the rest the world’s proven reserves combined, an auditor from the Government Accountability Office told Congress on Thursday.
The GAO testimony stressed that the federal government was in “a unique position to influence the development of oil shale” because the Green River deposits were mostly beneath federal land.
It also noted that developing the oil would pose “socioeconomic challenges,” which included bringing “a sizable influx of workers who along with their families put additional stress on local infrastructure” and “making planning for growth difficult for local governments.”
“The Green River Formation-an assemblage of over 1,000 feet of sedimentary rocks that lie beneath parts of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming-contains the world’s largest deposits of oil shale,”Anu K. Mittal, the GAO’s director of natural resources and environment said in written testimony submitted to the House Science Subcommittee on Energy and Environment.
“USGS estimates that the Green River Formation contains about 3 trillion barrels of oil, and about half of this may be recoverable, depending on available technology and economic conditions,” Mittal testified.

I have been posting those figures in blog stories for several years now, several links are listed at the end of this post, and I have to say, one of the few things Sarah Palin said that I totally agreed with was *drill baby drill*.
Once you figure in the Canadian oil sands, well, it’s unbelievable how much oil North America has. I believe that .50 a gallon would be about right too, on the price at the pump, that would surely piss off the *little sheet heads* at OPEC that Obama is so fond of.
But you know, it’s not just the Obama regime either, this has been going on for far too long, from MANY Presidents. Our nation could be totally energy independent in a very short time, and as I said, figure in Canadian oil sands, and then figure in ANWR, and the Gulf of Mexico, the oil off of the California coast and the east coast of the USA. Do you see it too?
We don’t NEED the world, we have ALL we need and then some, but the eco-nuts have the government by the throat, a sad statement of affairs. And the American taxpayer takes a screwing for it, WE get blamed for the GloBULL warming that is rapidly being proven as false.
And the hits just keep on coming! Here are a few more links that attest to the FACT that the USA is oil INDEPENDENT.

Well said. For way too long the Dems and Envirokooks have been lying to America about dangers that don’t exist in order to extort power and cash for their global power grab dream. It’s my prayer that come November they will get the biggest dose of defeat ever! We the People are still alive and kickin and we aren’t blind!
As I said, it’s NOT just the Obama regime…
Do you honestly think Romney will do any better regarding oil drilling?
In reality Fred, no. Makes me sick.
Me too HAM, me too…
If I recall properly, both you and I wrote about this roughly a year or so ago.
And the same was true: we are sitting on a HUGE reserve of oil. Smack dab in the middle of the US.
Here are two MORE reasons I believe Obama and the Religious Left do NOT wish to enable the Keystone XL pipeline:
1. It will enable “flyover country” states to become, essentially, economic powerhouses (instead of DC, and will not be beholden to DC);
2. Keystone will not only transport oil from Canada, but will enable these states to link to it for EASIER transport of their product south to our refineries.
When it comes to power and control, Obama will NOT relent.
He, therefore, continues to PURPOSELY choose “conflict oil” over domestic oil, jeopardizing not only American lives but ME and other lives.
Mr Obama’s choice to NOT enable energy independence is KILLING people.

This revelation should have the country up in arms, but it won’t. Am sure Clinton put some of these lands off limits. This discovery has had to have been known for a while and yet nothing was done to recover the oil. Wonder how many other POTUS knew about this and hid it or did nothing. Appears there are more traitors in this country than we knew.
So basically, including Bakken, what your saying Fred, is we should be swimming in oil, and selling our oil to the Chinese instead of buying all their cheap ass merchandise that they flood our country with!!!!
However as you have clearly pointed out the idiot in the White House will not allow this because he does not want to offend his rag headed brethren, who he loves so much, is that about right Fred?
Well flock him, and the rest of his MUSLIM AMIGOS,
Why are we not seeing millions of people in the streets OCCUPYING the White House until this SOB gets the message. The left has no problem occupying this and occupying that….screw them all.
It’s not just Obama… MANY past Presidents have failed to do RIGHT by America, and sadly, I don’t see where Romney would be any different..
We have been SCREWED, all around…

They have been screwing us for a long, long time. Great post and much needed facts!
Bunches of reserves right here in the US Fred. Not just oil in the usual sense, but fracked reserves, shale, oil sands, etc. The key is the price at which it becomes economically recoverable. According to my sources, for shale we’re talking a mere $60 per barrel and for oil sand something very similar. So we are over the price at which it is a recoverable reserve and have been for a number of years — including, as you suggest, the Bush years.
Locked and loaded
Did I mention natural gas and coal?
If the worry if all about GLOBAL warming (or is it GLOBAL climate change?), and these kooks are worried about the GLOBAL impact on mother gaia, then no matter where the oil is taken from, the GLOBE will be impacted. That being the case, who better to safely remove the oil from mother gaia? America, with lots of high tech methods and safety regulations to protect the environment, or a bunch of low paid muslim slaves that couldn’t care less about the planet and more than likely, spill the stuff everywhere when removing it. You then have all the risks of transporting this stuff thousands of miles across the globe to get it to America.
So, no matter where we get our oil, from the bosom of mother earth here in America, or her asshole in the middle east, there is a GLOBAL effect. So the fact that they think it’s perfectly okay to allow our biggest enemies to drill for oil (and get rich stupidly rich in the process and use that money to fund terrorism) or we take it from our own lands should be of no difference to anyone that truly has GLOBAL conservation concerns.
So, why not let us get our own oil, much safer, better regulated, less travel risks, and keep the money in America?
Do these green kooks not understand that every barrel of oil Amercia safely removes from the earth is one less barrel carelessly removed from saudi arabia?
They don’t seem to think these things through….

Yes, we have these resources. Now it is time to get rid of all these politicians that do not want to tap in and develop and utilize these energy producing minerals.
Been writing about this since before I ever posted anything about the subject on the internet, as well as one of my intro blogs.
Can we say cover up..?
Follow the money.
