US delivers `powerful commitment’ to Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - The U.S. designation Saturday of Afghanistan as its newest “major non-NATO ally” amounts to a political statement of support for the country’s long-term stability and solidifies close defense cooperation after American combat troops withdraw in 2014.

“We see this as a powerful commitment to Afghanistan’s future,” U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said at a news conference during a brief stop in the Afghan capital. “We are not even imagining abandoning Afghanistan,” she said in the grand courtyard of the presidential palace after talks with President Hamid Karzai.

From Kabul, she and Karzai headed separately to Japan for an international conference on Afghan civilian assistance. Donors planned to pledge $16 billion over four years, with the U.S. share not immediately clear, according to a U.S. diplomatic official speaking on condition of anonymity ahead of the official announcement Sunday.

The non-NATO ally declaration allows for streamlined defense cooperation, including expedited purchasing ability of American equipment and easier export control regulations. Afghanistan’s military, heavily dependent on American and foreign assistance, already enjoys many of these benefits. The non-NATO ally status guarantees it will continue to do so.

US delivers `powerful commitment’ to Afghanistan

Well, here we go again … writing checks for money we don’t have to defend a nation that absolutely does not matter.

Is there ANY doubt in anyone’s mind that we have NO CHOICE in November? Obama and the Democrats can’t be allowed to stay in power and allowed to spend this nation into oblivion as they prop up an Islamic regime that will turn their backs on us so fast that no one will know what just hit us.

Afghanistan is Islamic first, last and always. We are merely a source of money and a way for the Afghan government (Karzai) to survive a bit longer.

And let’s face some cold hard FACTS; when we went into Afghanistan after 9-11 I was one of the biggest supporters to be found. We were going in there to kick ass and take names against the Taliban and Osama bin Laden for the attacks that were orchestrated against this nation.

The Bush administration blew it folks. We had the Taliban on the run, we had a pretty good idea of where bin Laden was and had a better than fair chance of wiping the Taliban out in Afghanistan and killing Osama bin Laden … but NO, we had to traipse off to Iraq and take out Saddam Hussein.

Do you remember these words?

“You go to war with the army you have — not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time.”

Those are the words of Donald Rumsfeld, former Sec/Def under George W. Bush, and those words, and that attitude are one of the main reasons this nation is in the financial state it’s in today.

There is one thing that MUST be clarified; you go to war with the army you have — not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time … IF you have been attacked and you need to put up a sudden and fierce defense.

Iraq did NOT attack us on September 11th, 2001, the Taliban, based in Afghanistan attacked us on that day and we had every right to make WAR on them, and we were making WAR, and WINNING that war, right up until the time when Bush took his eye off of the REAL issue and launched what I will always believe to be a personal vendetta in Iraq against Saddam Hussein.

In MY not too terribly humble opinion, we didn’t go to war in Afghanistan to engage in nation building, but that is exactly what was done under Bush and is being done under the regime of Barack Hussein Obama.

Apparently, if the actions of Bush and Obama are any indication, you don’t have to be all that intelligent to become President of the greatest nation on earth.

If either one of those gentlemen had a bit of common sense, had been students of history and military tactics, and if either had even a minuscule bit of WORLD knowledge, they would KNOW this; Afghanistan brought down communism in the former Soviet Union, Afghanistan forced the Russians into near financial collapse.

If the United States keeps this up, if we continue to prop up a warlord, and that is all Hamid Karzai truly is, if we continue down this path, the United States of America is next on the financial collapse list.

And we’re already standing on the edge looking into the abyss.

To our enemies Obama apologies, capitulates and bows.

To our friends Obama attacks, criticizes and throws under the bus.

    Welcome back Fred.

    • TexasFred says:

      You are 100% correct Katie!

And thank you, it’s good to BE back!

      • Right Handed Cowboy says:

Fred my good friend, it’s good to see you back. I agree with you that my very good friend President George “Dub” Bush took his eye off the ball. FRO reasons only known to him. I like you believe was to retaliate against “SAD’UM” for the reasons you stated. Am I ok with the fact that HUSSEIN OBAMA’S name sake SAD’UM” HUSSEIN was taken out. Yes I am, but I believe it was not the right time.

As far as NATION BUILDING, why are we even wasting our time? Why are we wasting CHINA’S money on a nation that does not want us there and does not appreciate giving them the opportunity to be free!

They do not want freedom, the want to live under the oppressive conditions that has been in place for thousands of years.

This is evident by their actions, their soldiers assassinate our soldiers while their backs are tuned time and time again.

We need to pack up and leave NOW, let those goat herders live in their caves with their goats. I am tired of it, sick of being ridiculed by others who stand on the side lines.

Obama will continue his pattern of spending, especially when it involves his kin folk.

        Nuff said

      You are spot on Katie!

  2. BobF says:

Afghanistan a major ally in what? Other than murder and poppies, what do they have to offer? An ally should have to offer something to the alliance, shouldn’t they?

All this means is we’re going to be writing them a lot of checks for nothing in return. Our government is so stupid.

  3. Longstreet says:

It’s good to have you back, Fred! Give ’em hell!

  4. TomR says:

I had great hopes for George Bush. Especially after 8 yrs of Bill Clinton. Bush blew it. He stepped on his d-k when he declared islam “a religion of peace” and declared “America is not at war with islam”. Those two statements insured a long costly no-win war. I was pleased with the initial effort in Afghanistan. A few Army Special Forces A-teams and CIA paramilitary types with American air power did what they do best. They organized local opposition to the Taliban and defeated them. They almost got bin-Ladin but those ugly snakes known as politics and (cumbersome)conventional military forces intervened and b-L made his escape. Then Bush broke his campaign promise of “no nation building”. That promise lasted about as long as his dad’s “no new taxes”. Anyway, W. decided to invade Iraq so we would have two islamic nations to “build”. Guess no one in the Bush administration knew shit about islam and islamic countries.

I thought we needed Saddam to act as a buffer or block against Iran. Reagan played those two islamic nations against each other as they bled each other in a 9 yr. war. muslims killing muslims. Does it get any better than that!

So now we have obama stumbling around not knowing what to do in the ME except apologise to his brother muslims for America’s sin of being a great (non islamic)nation. With this goofy confusing Arab Spring I would not be surprised if obama and Hillary really begin throwing $US around trying to buy friends and encourage the muslim world to adore their muslim brother president of America.

So, we are on the edge of a world wide financial collapse, two administrations have us spending money overseas to build our enemies nations, obama is gutting our military and obamacare is now legally in place thanks to one Supreme. Ain’t life grand!!

    Buy more ammo!

    Welcome back Fred
Glad your computers troubles are now a memory.

  6. minuteman26 says:

Glad to see you back Fred. Ref above - only thing that might make sense out of this is that Obama may think he is buying Karzai off so our troops can get out of Astan with as little trouble as possible. But other than the destruction of this country, little else makes sense with the Choomster.

  7. Right Truth says:

A “powerful commitment” like the one we just issued to Pakistan.
    “I’m sorry, so sorry
    Please accept my apology…”
Our enemies have no fear of us any longer.

Glad to see you site is up and running smoothly again.

The phrase “powerful commitment” from the Obaka Administration carries as much veritas as the phrase “honest Muslim.”

“Hello? Taqqiyah, table for two please.”

  9. Cary says:

I missed something along the way - where does high intelligence equate with common sense? Most of the time, what is touted as “high intelligence” in the world of academia also exhibits a complete and utter lack of common sense.

Just because he is thought to be highly intelligent does not mean he had the common sense to run a country with the history and the resources of the United States.

And you can apply that statement to either one of the Presidents mentioned above.

Actually, that should be “…to either the President or the pResident mentioned above.”

  10. Hoosier Army Mom says:

Glad you’re back Fred! Life is never boring with you in the mix!

Apparently the definition of “what an ally is” has changed dramatically. Of course libbers always miss the small details, like maybe allies should actually like you and demonstrate loyalty and like mindedness… abyss indeed.

  11. Always On Watch says:

Our so-called foreign policy is so screwed up that I don’t know how it will ever be straightened out!

  12. Bunkerville says:

Meanwhile our men and women are dying and maimed for life while he plays his game. Welcome back Fred !

  13. Bloviating Zeppelin says:

    @ Cary:

As a cop I’ve found, continuously over the decades, that predominantly “education” and common sense ARE mutually exclusive.
