Oh, Lord. I’d pull my hair out, if I had more.On the Web I find that Henry Louis Gates Jr., the chairman of Afro-American Studies at Harvard, is demanding that whites, pay reparations to blacks. It’s because of slavery, see. He is joined in this endeavor by a gaggle of other professional blacks. I guess he’ll send me a bill.
Huh? I feel like saying, Let me get this straight, Hank. I’m slow. Be patient. You want free money because of slavery, right?
I don’t blame you. I’d like free money too.
Tell you what. I believe in justice. I’ll give you a million dollars for every slave I own, and another million for every year you were a slave. Fair enough? But tell me, how many slaves do you suppose I have? In round numbers, I mean. Say to the nearest dozen. And how long were you a slave?
Oh.
In other words, I owe you reparations for something that I didn’t do and didn’t happen to you. That makes sense. Like lug nuts on a birthday cake.
Personally, I think you owe me reparations for things you didn’t do and never happened to me. I’ve never been coated in Dutch chocolate and thrown from the Eiffel Tower. I’ll bet you’ve never done it to anyone.
I want reparations.

But if we’re going to talk about reparations, that’s a street that runs in two directions. You want money from me for what some other whites did to some other blacks in another century. How about you guys paying whites reparations for current expenses caused by blacks? Not long ago blacks burned down half of Los Angeles, a city in my country. Cities are expensive, Hank. Build one sometime and you’ll see what I mean. Whites had to pay taxes to repair Los Angeles for you. You can send me a check.
Now, yes, I know you burned LA because you didn’t like the verdict in the trial of those police officers. Well, I didn’t like the verdict in the Simpson trial. But I didn’t burn my house and loot Korean grocers.
Over the years blacks have burned a lot of American cities: Newark, Detroit, Watts, on and on. Now add in the fantastic cost over the years of welfare in all its forms, of large police forces and jails and security systems in department stores. I can’t live in the capital city of my own country because of crime committed by blacks. Toss in the cultural cost of lowering standards in everything for the benefit of blacks.
See what I mean?
Now, I’d view things differently if you said, “Fred, blacks can’t get anywhere in a modern country without education. We know that. We need better schools, smarter teachers, harder courses, books with smaller pictures and bigger words. Can you help us?”
I’d say, “Hallelujah! Hoo-ahh! Not just yes, but hell yes. Let’s sell an aircraft carrier and get these folks some real schools and get them into the economic mainstream.” I’d say it partly because it would be the right thing to do, and partly because I’d like to add you guys to the tax base. The current custodial state is expensive. I’d just love for blacks to study and learn to compete and stop burning places.
But is it going to happen?
You may not believe it, but I, and most whites, don’t like seeing blacks as miserable and screwed up as they are. I spend a fair amount of time in the projects. Those places are ugly. It’s no fun watching perfectly good kids turn into semi-literate dope dealers who barely speak English. It just plain ain’t right.
But, Hank, what am I supposed to do about it? I can’t do your children’s homework. At some point, people have to do things for themselves, or they don’t get done.
Maybe it’s time.
I’ll tell you what I see out in the world, Hank. I think blacks are too accustomed to getting anything they want by just demanding it. True, it has worked for over half a century. Get a few hundred people in the street, implicitly threaten to loot and burn, holler about slavery, and the Great White Cash Spigot turns on.
Thing is, whites don’t much buy it any longer. Most recognize that what once was a civil-rights movement has become a shakedown game. Few people still feel responsible for the failings and inadequacies of blacks. Political correctness keeps the lid on–but everyone knows the score.
Which scares me, Hank. On one hand, blacks hate whites and incline toward looting and burning. (The whites you hate are the ones who marched in the civil-rights movement. Ever think about that?) On the other hand, whites quietly grow wearier and wearier of it. Not good.
On the third hand (allow me three hands, for rhetorical convenience) blacks keep demanding things. As I write, you demand reparations for slavery. Blacks in Oklahoma (I think it was) want money for some ancient race riot. Other blacks reject the Declaration of Independence, blacks in New York hint broadly at burning and looting over a trial, yet more demand the elimination of the Confederate flag, and the federal equal-opportunity apparatus, which means blacks, wants to sue Silicon Valley for not hiring nonexistent black engineers.
That’s a lot of demanding for one month, Hank. What happens if whites ever say, “No”?
Now, how about you? You’ve got a cushy job up there at Harvard, and you can hoot and holler about what swine and bandits whites are. I guess it’s lots of fun, and you get a salary for it. But don’t you think you might do blacks more good if you told them to complain less and study more?
For example, if you want blacks to work in Silicon Gulch, the best approach might be to find some really smart black guys, and get them to study digital design, not Black Studies. That’s how everybody else does it. It works. Then blacks wouldn’t feel left out, and racial tension would decline. Sound like a plan?
Just out of curiosity, how many hours a week do professors of Afro-American Studies spend in the projects, encouraging poor black kids to study real subjects, Hank?

I have covered the reparations thing in the past, Democratic convention chief wants reparations for blacks, and I pissed off a few folks with my very blunt opinion of reparations and what could be done with them.
I got a bit bent out of shape over this one too, House apologizes for slavery. For obvious reasons.
Long time readers will remember this one, I Am Your Worst Nightmare. I am a BAD American., I got called all kinds of names, racist, NAZI, anti-Islamic, all sorts of stuff.
The point is, I’m an American and a Texan. I was born in 1953. Slavery ended in 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. That’s 88 years BEFORE I was born.
I didn’t have a thing to do with slavery, I didn’t participate, in ANY way. Damn if I’m paying for it!
That’s a great post. While I was reading it, I couldn’t help but think, as you stated at the end of the post, that slavery ended a long time before I was even born. So why should I pay for it? I don’t have slaves, never did. I shouldn’t have to pay for something I didn’t do. But, then, I still have deductions taken from my check to pay for the people out there that are perfectly fine to work but are too lazy to do so.
This man, the professor, is busy trying to get money for something that he was never a part of either. Was he a slave? Was he wronged personally? No, I didn’t think. So why should we, the whites, have to pay you?

Couldn’t be stated any better. If you really want to see a race war, pass reparations. They majority in this country has had enough of this crap. We’ll see how fast the pols who would pass such a law try to get out of this country before they get shot or hung.

IF the Obamacrats decide to push this “Reparations” issue along with every other damn libturd ideology they decide to act on, it will be revolution time. You guys do know it’s Black History month? Why do blacks get a whole month, and in the middle of it sits PRESIDENTS DAY. a DAY in which we honor PRESIDENTS, and then MLK gets his own day too.. WHY not have MLK/Black History DAY? it’s not good enough because WE whites owe Blacks because of slavery….I gotta cut mine loose I guess cause they are costing me a fortune.
Funny Name a continent that WHITE folks haven’t civilized, and then look at that continent…. While some may argue that it was civilized through barbaric means, it was civilized just the same… We had to go through that to get to where we are NOW. I’d like to know the % of “African Americans” that have actually went to Africa, or have sent money/goods to help those in need in Africa… I’m betting it’s much lower than Obama’s approval rating.
Brown vs The Board of Education was the beginning of the end of public education in this country. That’s when the quality of education was dumbed out of existence, and the numbers since the 1960’s prove this out. Reparations??? Shouldn’t they go back to Africa and trace down the tribes that sold their ancestors into slavery to begin with and ask for reparations from them?? Whites died in great numbers during the Civil War which as a side effect, got them freed, Who will pay us for the blood shed that made their freedom possible??? Who will pay us for the whites who died and were persecuted during the Civil Rights movement???

Everyone these days wants reparations-blacks, native americans, countries in the third world that claimed to be harmed by the exploitation of the evil white man. Every where the poor down-trodden masses are lining up with their hands out reaching for money—this is their moment, because their great savior “OBAMA” has control of the purse strings and they all want their “Obama Money”! Heck, I might as well get in line because the damn yankees burned down my great, great, great, great 5th cousin twice removed house in 1864—I want my money!!!!
The big apology for slavery was the next step in this shakedown. It was America’s way of admitting culpability. Kinda like saying you are sorry for causing a car accident. You have just admitted that it was your fault and we can get the whole nonsense of who is liable out of the way and go straight to damages…as in how much money do we have to pay the victims.
If I am make a stand and say enough is enough, I am labelled a racist. They know this. It’s a losing situation for whites no matter what happens. If we pay, they get lots of money they don’t deserve. If we don’t they get to continue pointing their finger at us and play victim and we are the bad guy.
PC sucks and will be a big factor in the destruction of our country. It can be stopped I suppose. But there will be casualties (ruined reputations, careers ended, etc.). I know, I initiated this fight where I worked and it cost me big time. The fight will not be pretty and those that can get the ball rolling to ending this PC nonsense don’t have the guts and/or the support they need to do it. Eventually that brick wall we are speeding toward will come into view. Can we apply the brakes before it’s too late? I wonder.

If black riots start again, I know many who will respond and truly leave the rioters in a non-breathing fetal position.
The black welfare, prison population, school drop-outs, in fact any and everything they touch or do, turns into a horrendous and costly problem for the tax-paying white and asian citizens of the USA.

When are we going to have a White History Month? Or a National Association for the Advancement of White People? Or White Entertainment TV? Or a White only magazine? Etc? We do not owe them a damn dime. My relatives came to this country just 3 generations back, so we were not even here during the Civil War.
Did not own any slaves, but were too darn busy working hard to make a life for themselves and their kids. German speaking immigrants…had to learn the language and assimilate into the country. The dang blacks now are born and raised here and the only thing they want to assimilate into is our pocketbooks.
I do not feel we owe them anything. Nor do we owe the indians anything. But we have been giving them reparations for generations, so naturally the blacks are going to try to jump on the same free money bandwagon. We need to quit being politically correct and start being realistic. When an illegal or black can get money on welfare but a hard working white American cannot get a helping hand (not a hand out)…then we have gone way too far to the left. We all need to join hands and PULL our country back upright and back over to the right where it belongs.

If blacks do get reparations, can we deduct the cost of bringing them here. After all, if nobody brought them to America, they wouldn’t be living in this country and have a claim to begin with. They would still be living in the wonderful lands of Africa where life is wonderful and much better than here in the USA.
Also, shouldn’t a recipient have to prove that he/she was actually desceded from slavery? I am sure not all blacks should qualify as not all of them are descended from slaves. What about those that came here after the civil war? They certainly do not deserve anything as their descendant never suffered the indignities of slavery. Just because you are black you do not automatically qualify. Also, wouldn’t the claimants have to prove they would have been worse off but for slavery? Just like in any personal injury claim, you have to prove damages - in other words, the incident made you worse off than you would have been had you not been brought to the USA.
Also, how do I get some reparations. My ancestors were polish/russian. My grandfather told me that he and his family suffered greatly because of our ethnicity and where we came from. My grandfather had to change his last name so he could get a job because when he came here, the pollocks were persecuted and he could not get a decent job because of prejudice against his ethnicity. I still suffer horribly whenver I hear a pollock joke.
In fact, I bet that almost every ethnicity suffered some form of racism or prejudice to some degree. Therefore, we should all get something, or maybe offset our teh amount we would owe as reparation payees.
In fact, I remember specifically being beat up in the 3rd grade by several black kids because I was white and I was on their side of the playground (their reason, not mine). My nose was bloodied, a busted tooth, fat lip and my shirt and pants were torn. I grew up dirt poor and my mother could afford very little clothing for me than. There was also the mental anguish of being beaten up in front of the entire school as well as the continued fear for the next 2 -1/2 years of going on that playground. My mental anguish was certainly the product of someone’s intentional infliction of emotional distress toward me. Shouldn’t the cost (plus interest) of my clothing and maybe some therapy be deducted from my portion since I surely suffered from the effects of racism both physically and mentally? This case should be even better than Mr. Gates since at least I and my perpetrators are still alive. (or at least I think they are…that is if they are not dead or in prison somewhere.) I can still remember their full names and could easily point them out in my elementary school yearbook.
In fact, I think every single white person that has been beat up, robbed, raped, had a family member killed, or suffered directly due to the actions of a reparation claimant be allowed to make a claim on this reparation fund before it can be distributed. Also, before any funds are dispersed, we may want to set up a large trust fund in which white people can make a claim for damages if they have been or are injured due to the actions of any and all reparation claimants. We may need to hold off on disbursing the reparations indefinitely until we are absolutely sure that all reparation payees (currently and in the future) are fully covered and protected. Maybe we should even require by law that all reparation claimants purchase some form of “bad acts” insurance so that when a reparation payee gets harmed by a reparation claimant, they too may be able to file a claim and be made whole again.
This way, all victims of all intentional acts, regardless of race, will have a right to retribution against those that would harm them and be made whole. The road goes both ways. We certainly do not want to deny any victim of what they deserve coming to them just because of their skin color. That would be racist…and we can’t have any of that.
Here’s the truth:
Blacks don’t have to worry about “whitey.”
Instead, consideration demographics (“demography is prophecy”), they’d best start worrying about their status in the eyes of MEXICANS.
