Good News from TexasFred’s

May 11th, 2008 . by TexasFred

The blog has been updated to WordPress 2.5.1 and I am now on a new template as well, the sidebar is basically the same but the body of the blog and the header are a lot different…

The one really great thing is the comments section, when you post a comment you only have to fill your information in once, it retains and remembers you, and you get a decent sized text box in which to post…

The other great thing is the addition of a new function that allows you to add images to your comment by clicking the link, several have asked how I added images and until now, on the old template and platform, it was only something that Admin could do, well, now you all can…

I guess ALL new systems have to have a ’shakedown’ cruise before going into battle…

Thanks for the support, the comments, the story ideas and links to TexasFred’s, I really appreciate ALL of you folks and if you’re a Mom, a belated Happy Mothers day, we’ve been very busy today trying to get all the ‘bugs’ out of the new template and data base, and for that I can only thank my great friend Rob at American & Proud, thank you Rob, you’re a great friend and business partner…

If any of you were here yesterday when we were doing the 1st install and were testing all the new goodies, you know that comments got a 500 Error when you tried to post, it was a data base error and had nothing to do with you or your system, it was in the new template, that too is gone…

Sincerely, Fred

How stupid can some people be?

May 2nd, 2008 . by TexasFred

OK, you can file this one under the “How stupid can SOME people be?” category, our noon news had a story about IRS Phishing scammers, and how some people are so stupid that they actually give out their personal information TO these crooks…

Here is the official page from the IRS and it has all the details of this scam and advises on what to do if you receive a ‘phishing’ attempt…

Some people have received phone calls about the economic stimulus payments, in which the caller impersonates an IRS employee. The caller asks the taxpayer for their Social Security and bank account numbers, claiming that the IRS needs the information to complete the processing of the taxpayer’s payment. In reality, the IRS uses the information contained on the taxpayer’s tax return to process stimulus payments, rather than contacting taxpayers by phone or e-mail.

An e-mail claiming to come from the IRS about the “2008 Economic Stimulus Refund” tells recipients to click on a link to fill out a form, apparently for direct deposit of the payment into their bank account. This appears to be an identity theft scheme to obtain recipients’ personal and financial information so the scammers can clean out their victims’ financial accounts. In reality, taxpayers do not have to fill out a separate form to get a stimulus payment or have it directly deposited; all they had to do was file a tax return and provide direct deposit information on the return.

What to Do

Anyone wishing to access the IRS Web site should initiate contact by typing the IRS.gov address into their Internet address window, rather than clicking on a link in an e-mail or opening an attachment.

Those who have received a questionable e-mail claiming to come from the IRS may forward it to a mailbox the IRS has established to receive such e-mails, [email protected], using instructions contained in an article titled “How to Protect Yourself from Suspicious E-Mails or Phishing Schemes.” Following the instructions will help the IRS track the suspicious e-mail to its origins and shut down the scam. Find the article by visiting IRS.gov and entering the words “suspicious e-mails” into the search box in the upper right corner of the front page.

Those who have received a questionable telephone call that claims to come from the IRS may also use the [email protected] mailbox to notify the IRS of the scam.

The IRS has issued previous warnings on scams that use the IRS to lure victims into believing the scam is legitimate. More information on identity theft, phishing and telephone scams using the IRS name, logo or spoofed (copied) Web site is available on this Web site. Enter the terms “phishing,” “identity theft” or “e-mail scams” into the search box in the upper right corner of the front page.

Walking on the American Flag is NOT Art!

April 17th, 2008 . by TexasFred

This is from my good friend Dr. Bill Smith at ARRA News Service - Walking on the American Flag is Art, please click the link, read the story, watch the video, get involved, don’t just sit back and take this kind of crap…

Bill Smith, Editor, Update on Story - Below is the video of the disgraceful flag desecration project. Watch a heroic veteran take a stand. As a veteran - I was moved to tears. I located and interviewed the veteran. He is Charlie Bennett, Dist 4 Commander, Maine American Legion. He is Vietnam veteran having served (1967-1979). For 11 1/2 months, he was on the Cambodian border with the 4th Infantry Division, U.S. Army. Bennett is a proud supporter of protecting the American Flag. He shared that he did not mind the criticism by campus officials and was proud to take a stand, but that he almost cried when the police indicated they were going to arrest him. He had always faithfully served his country and was hurt to think he would be arrested for protecting the American Flag. Commander Bennett has received numerous phone calls by people encouraging him to continue and has been called by the local news. He welcomes interviews and can be reached at 207-778-2340. As of this post, Charlie Bennett is returning to the front lines (the university) today but this time with his own “parade flag” and a sign that says ” You won’t walk on this flag!” We hope that many students and other veterans will stand with him. Charlie our prayers are with you!

Please pass this video and info on to others and contact the Univ. of Maine Farmington and express your outrage! The two of the persons in the video supporting the flag desecration project are are University leaders: the University’s President, Theodora Kalikow (the old “witch” who is seen telling Bennett that the project of walking on the flag is defending free speech) and the University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Allen Berger (the liberal educator who is seen telling Bennett that he (Bennett) didn’t fight for a piece of cloth). If Don’t expect agreement, but take time to express your Free Speech to Theodora Kalikow ([email protected] or 207-778-7256) and Allen Berger ([email protected] or 207-778-7276.

Much More Here:
Walking on the American Flag is Art

I am posting this in support and I hope MANY others will as well, let these asshats KNOW that there are REAL Americans out here, and we RESPECT the flag and what it stands for, and let them know, we’re mad as hell and we’re NOT going to take it any more!!

Because you asked…

March 10th, 2008 . by TexasFred
OK, because so many have asked and it’s just too much to try and email over and over, here goes, the most comprehensive rundown of my life to ever hit the web, and not to worry, no ‘fobbits’ will be harmed nor will any national secrets be divulged in the writing of this tale…

According to my dear and glorious physicians, I have apparently been diabetic since I was in my ‘teens, and that was a long time ago, and it also appears that it lay undetected for many years, I was, all things considered, as healthy as a horse until late March of 1994 when I suffered a serious heart attack while on assignment, I was transported to a facility in Seattle and they did a 4x bypass, things went like a dream and 6 weeks to the day I played a full 18 holes of golf at my local club back home in Louisiana, 2 weeks later I was released to lite/moderate duty, a damned desk basically, and 2 weeks later I was told by a brilliant cardiologist that I could return to my FULL set of whatever the hell it was I happened to be up to at the time…

Obviously, he had no real idea of what my job was, I was forced to take medical retirement at the age of 40, I just wasn’t up for the past stress that had put me where I was, so, brilliant me, I went into the trucking business full time, not as a side line, not as a tax write off, oh no, I got seriously into this thing with a major Van Line that had a very secure ‘High Security’ division…

Because of my past experiences I was able to attain the highest of security clearances and I became involved in the transportation of high value electronics, medical equipment, trade shows and then again into the ‘high security’ stuff, my favorite, we got to carry the guns and had U.S. Marshals escort us, had helicopters overhead, all the good stuff, it was a blast and I was in my element once again and loving every minute of it…

Well, things rocked on for a while and life was really good until I had what turned out to be a gall bladder attack in ‘99, but even that wasn’t as bad as being found to be severely diabetic but pretty much able to maintain with diet and pills…

August 2002, my world crashed into a huge pile, at least I was in the Dallas area this time and not on the other side of the world, it was HOT, it was mid-day August 28th in Dallas and I had another full blown heart attack, and this was a big one too, any bigger and I’d have gone with Fred Sanford to see Elizabeth…

Being a perpetual optimist I told the wife, 6-8 weeks after surgery and I’ll kick this thing in the ass again, and knowing me and my drive as only she possibly can, she agreed and I went back for another 4x bypass, except this time it didn’t take, only about 70% did, the doctors wrote it off to diabetes not allowing healing, who knows, in any case I had to finally take full retirement and disability, sold my business and equipment and 5 years ago I started doing forums and then my 1st blog and it’s been a blast again…

About 2 weeks ago I thought I was coming down with the flu that’s going around and was taking all the OTC crap and NOT going to the doctor as I should have, things got completely out of balance in my system, sugars went nuts, enzymes, phosphorus, potassium, ALL of it, went completely out of balance and then I had a damned gall bladder attack hit, for real, I mean hurt worse than BOTH heart attacks put together, and to make matters worse, I developed pancreantitus, severe case, it and the gall bladder were tossing bombs at each other and last Monday AM I ended up in the ICU at Baylor Med Center in Garland, spent 2 1/2 days there and 3 full days in a ward, now it’s all balanced back out for now, they have the gall bladder and pancreas cooled off, lots of antibiotics, diet change and so forth, I go in Wednesday morning for a heart stress test and if all is well, in a week or 2 I’ll have an out patient procedure done and the gall bladder will be gone, along with a lot of other problems…

Serious blogging will be on hold for a while yet, but I am working on a very serious article concerning the medical profession in America and who is actually running it, I am, after all, getting a lot of 1st hand knowledge to use…

All the best to my friends, family and readers, we seriously appreciated the calls, notes, comments, emails and visits, thank you all for caring…
