U.S.: Israel OKs 48-Hour Air Activity Halt

JERUSALEM (AP) - Israel agreed Sunday to halt air attacks on south Lebanon for 48 hours in the face of widespread outrage over an airstrike that killed at least 56 Lebanese, mostly women and children, when it leveled a building where they had taken shelter.

The announcement of the pause in overflights - made by State Department spokesman Adam Ereli - appeared to reflect American pressure on Israel. Ereli, who was in Israel with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, said Israel reserved the right to hit targets if it learns that attacks are being prepared against them.

An Israeli government official confirmed Prime Minister Ehud Olmert agreed to a 48-hour halt in airstrikes on Lebanon. The official was speaking on condition of anonymity since he was not authorized to talk to reporters.

The stunning bloodshed in Lebanon earlier on Sunday prompted Rice to cut short her Mideast mission and intensified world demands on Washington to back an immediate end to the fighting.

I am going to say something I NEVER, ever in MY life thought I would say…

I am ASHAMED of MY government, I am disgusted with OUR President, his cabinet and every one of those sorry-assed, gutless, sons a bitches in the State Department and Washington, D.C….

And I am disgusted in the way they can pull the string and the elected officials in Israel dance the dance, bow and scrape and STOP their VERY successful offensive against a TERRORIST organization of the 1st order…

Mr. Bush is without a doubt, the most GUTLESS excuse for a so-called leader that this nation has been forced to suffer since Jimmy Carter, and I am guessing the ‘average’ Israeli is feeling pretty much the same way concerning Prime Minister Ehud Olmert right about now…

No military LEADER can EVER give up his WINNING fight because of the outcry of ‘public opinion’, most of which is coming from the Arab, Islamic and radical terrorists that are getting their collective asses kicked all over Gaza and Lebanon, wars are NOT won by being NICE, wars are NOT won by being politically correct, it is NOT the fault of Israel that the gutless terrorists that our own government now protects are using civilians as shields for their rocket launchers, in WAR, people DIE, civilians DIE and the people of Lebanon have allowed this to happen to themselves by being as GUTLESS as our OWN leaders and not having the backbone to actually STAND UP to terrorists and KILL them…

But the key words here are MILITARY and LEADER… Something George W. Bush had NO experience at before becoming President apparently, at least no experience he paid attention to…

To the people of Israel, and I KNOW I have some readers FROM Israel, I am truly sorry that our GUTLESS excuse of a President has let you down, I wish you ALL nothing but the best and I urge my fellow bloggers to start MASSIVE letter writing and phone campaigns, we MUST inundate Washington with our protests and anger, and we MUST let the ‘crooks in suits’ KNOW, either get this so-called WAR on terror in gear or their asses WILL be out on the street…

Until this afternoon, Israel had set the example of how to get the job DONE, we must not interfere with that, we can only SUPPORT Israel in their war and stand WITH them and embrace their will to FIGHT the enemies of all free people…

Israels troops, as well as our own troops, have the courage and the will to fight the entire world, it is a crying shame that our leaders are too gutless to fight anyone with a REAL war…

ALL that Mr. Bush and Mr. Olmert have done is show that THEY don’t have the guts for a fight, and they have given Hezbollah a respite, which I am SURE Hezbollah will use to recoup their forces and continue their attacks against Israel, and after even MORE Israelis die in rocket attacks, MAYBE the people of Israel will rise up and in ONE VOICE let it be known, this is a FIGHT, not a sporting event, and if their leaders don’t have the guts to fight it out and WIN, leave the business of WAR to MEN that CAN and WILL fight it and win it by any means necessary…

Our own government is about to begin receiving that message LOUD and CLEAR from ME…

This can only be good if there is nothing left to attack from the air, other than that, it is as you say….

  2. jarhead john Says:

Pretty disappointing, to say the least.

  3. GUNZ Says:

“Never hold back” That was your advice to me and you truly lead by example. I’m as ashamed as you are. You just get it out a lot better.

    Damn! Damn! Damn! Bush sucks!

  4. Gawfer Says:

As if there could be any other outcome when the enemy is hidding behind the skirts of women, the cradles of children and the false teeth of the elderly!

Colateral damage sucks, but is necessary in a war like this. The Lebanese need to evacuate immediately, or risk being killed.

    End of story.

    Go Navy!

  5. Ranando Says:

Well said Fred and I agree…

I’m disgusted with Bush and have been for the past few years, you know how I feel about Bush. I’m also disgusted with some bloggers that can’t seem to be consistant in their comments.

Bush bad here, Bush great there.

  6. Robert Says:

Yeah Fred total agreement here, I wish Bush would actually do what he says he is going to do and go where he says he is going, I’m getting tired of all the Wishy washy crap…

  7. Basti Says:

Non-combatants have died in every war that has ever been. It’s only been since WWI or so that people have gotten upset about it.

This is still Lebanon’s fault if those gutless bastards had taken care of the Hez like they should have none of this would have went down.

As for Bush & Co, they’re all about business/money and the hell with everything else. Bush is a putz and I may never vote for a Republican for POTUS again. I hated Clinton, but at least Clinton had good old boy charm. Bush can’t even spell the word charm and Bush looks and acts like a dog that doesn’t quite understand the commands.

  8. TexasFred Says:

I have made it VERY CLEAR to people, people that think Bush is God, that I would say exactly what was on my mind and if they don’t like it they can go screw themselves..

And you ALL know the people I am speaking of…

  9. Wm H Says:

I stand with you on this and will start another round of nasty phone calls in the morning. I find it sicking that MSM refuses to cover the death of Israel citizens as a result to hazbollah missles. Maybe with luck Sheehan will assasinate dubya and we’ll be rid of both.

  10. B.R. Says:

I knew the Israeli people also made a mistake at the time they elected Olmert. At least the USA electorate had the excuse in our last election that it was truly the choice btwn the “lesser of two evils”, as where, in the last election in Israel they had a definite better choice than the one they chose & didn’t take it & this just has provided further proof of such. I’m continually embarrassed at the “leader” we have & worried for Israel for the one they have.

It really freaks me out when I agree w/ Pat Robertson BUT maybe Olmert had better keep in mind what happened to the last 2 leaders of Israel who turned their backs on their country & caved to terrorists. MAYBE, Olmert had better remember what PR said might be the reason Sharon fell ill. This action of Olmert may at THIS point not be as big a betrayal as the previous 2 leaders but it might be the 1st step toward that.

When the news first broke about the deaths of these women and children they noted that it was a Hez building they were moved to for safety. I noticed that phrasing dropped out of the report. If that doesn’t say human shield, I don’t know what would. The terrorists have learned how to fight in a way that breaks the will of the people. This does nothing to stop them only enhance their horrible acts.

“Israeli Strikes Resume After Brief Lull”

    Israel to Bush…

Lead, Follow or get out of the Way.

  13. Sage Says:

You pretty muched summed up my sentiments exactly.
Bush has turned the Yellow Rose of Texas into a national symbol of our courage and stands against terrorists.
I never thought he would put pressure on the Israeli’s and that they would back down, but then again Olmert was never a General as the former Prime Ministers have been.

  14. TexasFred Says:

Israel to Bush, “WE have the BALLS to FIGHT…”

“Do YOU have the BALLS to ‘back’ us??”

And if he doesn’t, we may seriously need to rethink the election and removal from office procedures of our own government…

I think a ‘NO CONFIDENCE’ vote would more than carry at this point in time…
