ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A NASA astronaut charged with attempting to kidnap a romantic rival in a love triangle with another astronaut was allowed to go free on bail Tuesday on the condition that she not contact the alleged victim. The judge told Lisa Marie Nowak she could be released on $15,500 bond, then asked if she understood the conditions. She responded “yes.”

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Gunmen wearing Iraqi army uniforms seized an Iranian diplomat as he drove through central Baghdad, officials said Tuesday. Iran said it held the United States responsible for the diplomat’s “safety and life.” One Iraqi government official said the Iranian diplomat was detained Sunday by an Iraqi army unit that reports directly to the U.S. military. A military spokesman denied any U.S. troops or Iraqis that report to them were involved.

Anyone that’s ever been in combat KNOWS that incidents like this can and do happen, and it is something that is really hard to defend, other than to say, ’shit happens’… And I don’t say that in a ‘flippant’ manner, friendly fire incidents happen all the time in combats zones and the main reason is this, combat is the most disorganized thing that can ever be engaged in, even in a highly successful ‘mission’, confusion is the order of the day when the rounds start popping and to see it from the air, as these pilots did, can be even more confusing, if identifiers aren’t there, if markers aren’t placed, any number of things can go wrong, and it IS regrettable, but in some cases, it IS unavoidable…

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — Zimbabwe’s national security minister has told the country’s last remaining white farmers that they will be jailed if they refuse to abide by a deadline that passed over the weekend for them to leave their farms, according to a newspaper report on Monday. The official Chronicle newspaper quoted the minister Didymus Mutasa as saying police would be “unleashed” to deal with white farmers who ignored the eviction notice.
