Remains ID’d As Missing Ohio Soldier Matt Maupin

March 30th, 2008 . by TexasFred

BATAVIA, Ohio (AP) - The father of a soldier listed as missing-captured in Iraq since 2004 said Sunday that the military had informed him that his son’s remains were found in Iraq.

Keith Maupin said at a news conference in suburban Cincinnati that an Army general told him DNA testing had identified the remains of his son, Sgt. Keith Matthew Maupin, or “Matt? as he was commonly known.

Lt. Lee Packnett, an Army public affairs officer in Washington, confirmed that the Maupins were notified Sunday that their son’s remains had been identified. Packnett said an official statement about the identification would be released Monday.

Matt Maupin was a 20-year-old private first class when he was captured April 9, 2004, after his fuel convoy, part of the 724th Transportation Company, was ambushed west of Baghdad.

A week later, the Arab television network Al-Jazeera aired a videotape showing Maupin sitting on the floor surrounded by five masked men holding automatic rifles.

That June, Al-Jazeera aired another tape purporting to show a U.S. soldier being shot. But the dark and grainy tape showed only the back of the victim’s head and not the actual shooting.

Rest in Peace Matt, you served bravely and you did your duty, you’re coming home now, and your Mom and Dad can have some peace in just knowing your fate, I hate the word closure, but for lack of a better word, maybe they can finally have some closure.

All our love and sympathy to the Maupin family, and to ALL the families of our brave troops that have given their lives in the line of duty.

Well, I think most of us thought he was probably dead, but we always hold out hope until we get proof. I know his parents are devastated, but at lease now they KNOW what happened. They can bring him home, give him a proper burial, mourn him … finally.

These past years must have been torture for them. Brutal, heartless Muslim terrorists. May they all burn in an especially HOT HELL.

    Thanks for sharing this Fred.

RIP Matt - our prayers are with the Maupins. So many of our friends were involved in the attacks of April 8 - 9, 04 and I held out hope…..

Sgt. Matt Maupin remains identified in Iraq…

After nearly four years of hoping, waiting and praying, the family of Sgt. Keith Matthew Maupin (captured by insurgents in April 2004) learned Sunday their missing son died in Iraq. A Defense Department official also confirmed the identification, sayin…

I, too, held out hope. I really wanted to believe that the a-holes would realize he was worth far more alive.
God Bless his family, and all the others that have family and friends serving.

Over the past almost 4 years we have had a picture of Matt on the main door into our offices. I don’t know why his story/capture/status affected all of us but we came to know him by seeing his picture everytime we went in/out of the main door. People would ask about him. We tried to keep him alive in people’s minds - in ours - but as it turns out, memory is what there is left. To his family: someone(s) in Oregon cared about him and share in the loss of your son, soldier and loved one.

Thanks Fred as I too posted a tribute to Staff Sgt Maupin tonight.

I as all of you hoped for a lighter conclusion but after 4 years missing in a war zone one can only expect the sad inevitable. May his family now find some well deserved peace of mind, and may his soul now rest in peace after giving the greatest sacrifice of one’s life possible, in defense of our fragile freedom and liberty here, and in Iraq & elsewhere for the less fortunate than we as well as eradicating radical Islam wherever this filthy scourge is found around the globe.

Well..at least its a relief from the NOT KNOWING for the family of Army Sgt. Keith Matthew “Matt” Maupin….

I hadn’t heard this so thanks Fred. I’m sad to hear that this is the conclusion, but as you noted, the family now knows and a prayer is winging their way.

I will ride a bicycle if they will nuke them.

Rest in peace Matt. May God watch over your family during this time of grieving they will go through.

Your memory will always live as a true Warrior and a Patriot to your country and in the eyes of this great nation, the United States of America.

    ‘an eye for an eye’

and the American public gets upset over the idea of ‘waterboarding’

Contrary to what the left wing and the Islamists want to tell you, the USA did not start this war with Islam..Mohammad, may his name be covered with pig shit forever, started the war when he decided that to farther his power he had to convert by the sword.

Matt Maupin is not only a casualty of this war started by Mohammad; he is an example of what the ragheads have planned for all of us who choose to fight rather than submit to a cruel religion started by a false prophet.

There will be no tributes to Sgt Maupin in the MSM. Most likely narly a word mentioned on how he was captured and brutally executed.Instead the MSM will report about how some GI put panties on the heads of Islamic prisoners, stepped on a Koran, or allowed a dog to bark at them.

Not one GI who was captured by the Islamists has been released or even held in a facility where their well being can be verified. Matter-of-fact, even GI captured has been so brutally savaged that DNA had to be used to identify the remains.

These are sub-human animals from the pits of Hell. They’re already here in America. They live in our neighborhoods, shop in our stores, attend our schools and universities, given the best this nation has to offer, and look what they did on 9/11.

Rest in Peace Specialist Matt Maupin!

Where is the outrage by the news services concerning the Specilist Maupin’s murder by Islamic extremists and broadcast of the murder by Al-Jazeera.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

It pains me to even think that we actually take prisoners in this war.

RIP Matt- I am praying for your family. My brother came home from the war and I can not imagine what your family is going through right now. I am just thankful that they will now have closure. And I agree with my dad, closure just does not seem to fit this time.

I always held out just a small amoutn of hope he’d turn up…..alive. So sad.

I knew Matt was gone only a few days after he went missing. I just felt it. I also knew that many in the mainstream media would forget about him. Only his family and his friends and those who honestly support the troops would hold out any real hope.

I blame those who killed Matt. They are hateful and they deserve a just punishment. But I also blame the ones who insisted that this invasion of Iraq was necessary. Because they were warned over and over that the animosity generated by waging war against a country that had not attacked the U.S. and whose military couldn’t threaten Fiji, would lead to atrocities on both sides.

And it has come to pass.

Rest in peace, Matt. You and all the others who have lost their lives in this unnecessary conflict.
