Cindy McCain says she’ll never release her tax returns

May 8th, 2008 . by TexasFred

WASHINGTON (AP) - Cindy McCain says she will never make her tax returns public even if her husband wins the White House and she becomes the first lady.

“You know, my husband and I have been married 28 years and we have filed separate tax returns for 28 years. This is a privacy issue. My husband is the candidate,” Cindy McCain, wife of Republican presidential nominee-in-waiting John McCain, said in an interview aired on NBC’s “Today” on Thursday.

Asked if she would release her tax returns if she was first lady, Cindy McCain said: “No.”

The Arizona senator released his tax return last month, reporting he had a total income of $405,409 in 2007 and paid $84,460 in federal income taxes. He files his return separately from his wife, an heiress to a Phoenix-based beer distributing company whose fortune is in the $100 million range.

OK, now I am left with no choice but to defend McCain and family, if I am nothing else, I am fair, and if you’re right, then by God you’re right, and in MY not so humble opinion, Cindy McCain is right…

Cindy McCain is an articulate, wealthy and very attractive woman, but she is NOT running for the presidency, John McCain is, so, I have to ask this, why is Howard ‘the duck’ Dean off on a rant about Mrs. John McCain and her tax returns??

What about that unwritten rule about family being off limits??

That is all you hear from the Democrats when it’s Lil’ Chelsea out there on the campaign trail working her stuff, are the Dems really that hypocritical??

Wait, you really don’t have to answer that, it turned out to be a lot more rhetorical than I had planned…

    Tristan, specify….who’s scared?

Fred, I agree! She is not running for office, they file separately, and have filed separately since they married? Nope, not the public’s business, or any left wing moonbat either.

Well Kate, Tristan didn’t elaborate, there’s a lotta wiggle room there I think…

Dean (and the left) get pissed because their candidates spouses showed their taxes… he forgets the part about the other candidates filling married-joint though.

I don’t understand why even the candidates have to show their tax returns.

If it was a joint return I would say yes..but not only does she file seperate they have a pre-nup agreement that says what is hers is hers.

I can fault John McCain for a lot of things but this one is not one of them….I would rather know how Hilary got the millions she has just lent to her campaign..must have been one hell of a cattle future deal

If they filed jointly then her returns would be released. But she is a private citizen and files separately. Her returns are her own business. BTW: I don’t think any candidate’s returns should be released. Something about privacy comes into my mind with that. Is it a law that a candidates tax returns be released?
